I think better is forward to SPAM folder in mailbox user.
And add more rules to spamassassin.

Thanks so much

Checking this option will create a **SPAM** folder that is only seen
using webmail or IMAP. It can be set to automatically drop the
messages after they have been in the box for a specified amount of time.

You will need to read the wiki and rebuild Qmailadmin if the box is
not present.

You can do this with mailfilter rules. I did a video on how to sort

[qmailtoaster] Re: spamassassing

2009-11-13 Thread Eric Shubert

Rafael,

Be sure to use spamdyke before adding more rules to spamassassin.
spamdyke will catch 80%+ of spam up front (without even receiving it!),
reducing the amount of mail that spamassassin needs to scan. This
lightens the load on the server substantially, and you'll likely find
that you don't need to adjust spamassassin at all.

Heaven forbid (as my grandmother would say), no. Any mail not going to
your specified domain(s) would need to be submitted with authentication.

 If so, how to prevent
 that? So far, I could think only of authenticating the users but do not
 know how to do that.

If you want to use your toaster for an outbound smtp server as well,
you'll need to find a way to load the domains/accounts/passwords from
exchange to the toaster. I think a few folks have done this. You might
search the list archives for this. I'd like to see a wiki page (at
least) about how to do this. This would be a nice piece of software to
have, syncing QMT with Exchange accounts. Anyone up for developing it?

The spam_hits= value is simcontrol is for *rejecting* messages. This
value should be a bit greater than the required_score value in local.cf.
If it's less than or equal to, you'll never see a spam that's tagged
delivered - they'll all be rejected.

Try using
# qmailctl cdb
to rebuild all cdb files.

You don't need to restart qmail after modifying cdb files.

You don't need required_hits in local.cf. That is deprecated.
required_score is the preferred setting. This value controls when a
subject line is tagged.

After you change local.cf, you need to restart spamassassin. Restarting
qmail does not do this. You can use the qmail-spam command (part of
qmailtoaster-plus) for this.

I think spamdyke is blocking a lot os SPAM messages but i need to create
more rules or something to lower the rest of spams.

Eric Thanks so much

Eric Shubert escreveu:

Rafael,

Be sure to use spamdyke before adding more rules to spamassassin.
spamdyke will catch 80%+ of spam up front (without even receiving
it!), reducing the amount of mail that spamassassin needs to scan.
This lightens the load on the server substantially, and you'll likely
find that you don't need to adjust spamassassin at all.

Thanks Nigel. I have a source rpm (spec file) already, but will compare

I'll have a look at Mandriva's config file as well.

Re: [qmailtoaster] Re: eMPF requires authentication to work?

2009-11-13 Thread d...@acbsco.com

Hi Eric,
I must be missing something here.  I decided to give postfix and
followed your quickie howto, but I cannot send email out. First this is
what I have done.
Stopped qmail-smtpd and qmail-send using svc -d service name and adding
the "down" files to the proper directories.
I used yum on my Centos 5.3 system and install postfix-2.3.3-2.1.el5_2.

Then I used these instructions:
# cd /etc/pki/tls/certs

# make postfix.pem

# cd /etc/postfix

# echo "mail.domain.com:587 postmas...@domain.com:password"
\
I replace mail.domain.com with
mail.accsnetwork.com and postmas...@accsnetwork.com:
    sasl_passwd

# chmod 600 sasl_passwd

# postmap sasl_passwd

Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf settings:

myorigin = domain.com
Used accsnetwork.com here
#mydestination =

mynetworks_style = host

relayhost = mail.domain.com:587
Used mail.accsnetwork.com:587 here.
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes

smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

smtp_sasl_security_options =

smtp_use_tls = yes

smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/pki/tls/certs/postfix.pem

smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:/var/run/smtp_tls_session_cache

Then I had to create some symbolic links:
# ln -s /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix /usr/sbin/sendmail
# ln -s /usr/lib/sendmail.postfix /usr/lib/sendmail

started postfix
watched the /var/log/maillog file
sent a test email from the command line
I get this these errors:
Nov 13 12:46:37 inet postfix/pickup[17384]:

Do I need to set something up on the qmailtoaster server?

Thanks,

Just to clarify the log messages a little, when spamdyke issues a
DENIED_OTHER message, it's saying that something else (other than
spamdyke) rejected the message. This could be absolutely anything
further down the pipe. spamdyke is simply saying that "something other
than rejected the message, so I'm obeying that rejection".

In this case it appears to be eMPF that's doing the rejecting, but it
could also be chkuser, clamav, spamassassin etc. as far as spamdyke
knows. There should be a rejection message in the log just before
spamdyke's DENIED_OTHER that details the rejection.

HTH.

  Thanks guys for all the input. I should be
more descriptive with my

issue.  First, my users do not connect to any email accounts on my

internal servers.  I have different applications running on my internal

servers that need to send email to accounts on my external

(qmail-toaster).  For instance, I run timetrex on one server.  Users

login and clock in and out.  Managers can send email to the time

administrator email account which resides on my external server

(a...@solution-group.com).  These are the emails that are failing in
the

example logs I posted.
Thinking of what Jake was suggesting:

I added 192.168.105.110 to the whitelist_ip and

@local.solution-group.com to whitelist_rdns and whitelist_senders in

/etc/spamdyke.  I still get the "11-10 16:07:45 spamdyke[27917]:

DENIED_OTHER from: d...@acbsco.com to: a...@solution-group.com
origin_ip:

192.168.105.110 origin_rdns: " message in the smtp logfile on the

qmailtoaster.

I can say with 100% confidence that when I remove all entries from the

policy (eMPF) file on the external mail server - these emails are

successfully delivered.  The issue is, timetrex and other application

have no configuration file where I can put the smtp username and

password.  Since eMPF requires a user to authenticate (it has to know

who you are so it can apply a rule if applicable) it fails any message

that does not authenticate.

So, at this point, my best option is to follow the quickie guide to

installing postfix.

If anyone has anything else to add or suggest, I am all ears.

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Eric,
I must be missing something here. I decided to give postfix and
followed your quickie howto, but I cannot send email out. First this
is what I have done.
Stopped qmail-smtpd and qmail-send using svc -d service name and
adding the down files to the proper directories.

I used yum on my Centos 5.3 system and install postfix-2.3.3-2.1.el5_2.

Then I used these instructions:
# cd /etc/pki/tls/certs
# make postfix.pem
# cd /etc/postfix
# echo mail.domain.com:587 postmas...@domain.com:password \ I
replace mail.domain.com with mail.accsnetwork.com and

sasl_passwd
# chmod 600 sasl_passwd
# postmap sasl_passwd

Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf settings:
myorigin = domain.comUsed accsnetwork.com here
#mydestination =
mynetworks_style = host
relayhost = mail.domain.com:587 Used mail.accsnetwork.com:587 here.
smtp_sasl_auth_enable = yes
smtp_sasl_password_maps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl_passwd

smtp_use_tls = yes
smtp_tls_CAfile = /etc/pki/tls/certs/postfix.pem
smtp_tls_session_cache_database = btree:/var/run/smtp_tls_session_cache

Then I had to create some symbolic links:
# ln -s /usr/sbin/sendmail.postfix /usr/sbin/sendmail
# ln -s /usr/lib/sendmail.postfix /usr/lib/sendmail

started postfix
watched the /var/log/maillog file
sent a test email from the command line
I get this these errors:

If you do this, your email program (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.) will

It will effectively be useless to troubleshoot anything or use these

We might want to implement dovecot along with mandriva 2010 support,
so we don't need to address this issue. (I'm assuming that dovecot
doesn't have this problem).

I'll have an x86_64 test host soon, and plan on including mandriva
2010 on it. I'll know more about this when I get that all up and
running (hopefully by the end of the year).

Dovecot is not going to be officially supported on the 1.3 branch for a
while. The 2.0 branch will use Dovecot exclusively, and eventually it
will be backported to the 1.3 branch.
And I wouldn't assume Dovecot wouldn't have this problem with Mandriva.
Every Mandriva release brings a whole bag of new problems that have to
be fixed or worked around.

You can use the limits if you wish. They should be enabled.

Yes (/etc/spamdyke/whitelist_ip file), but you shouldn't need to.
Spamdyke bypasses all filters for authenticated sessions.

 The only other thing I can think of is that our filters here at the office
 block my house IP.

You might need to have the office open up port 587. If you're using
spamdyke that shouldn't be necessary though.

Hello,

K so I found that if I connected anywhere but here, I could get into my
SMTP. So I made an exception on my firewall and NAT'd 587 to my server,
configured the client to send through that port, took it back to where it
wasn't working and I am now able to send email. Interesting that I would be
blocked here but oh well.

This did create a question though. Could I essentially block port 25 on my
server so I don't get random requests on that port and continue to user the
more secure 587 port? I wouldn't think anything but an outside client
would need 25 if the port on the localhost is open. So essentially
squirrelmail would work fine but if an external person wanted to send email
through my server (and had permission/an account) I could have them
configure 587 for them rather than 25 and just block out that standard
port would that be feasible? I'm not sure if qmail needs it for any
other reason other than outgoing for external clients.

Glen V.

Email from external domains comes to your domain(s) via port 25. If
you're only doing intra-domain email, then yes, you could block port 25.
I sorta doubt that's what you want though. ;)

[qmailtoaster] Re: mail delivery problem , installed with qmailtoaster

2009-11-13 Thread Eric Shubert
That message would seem to indicate that the user accounts have not been
properly set up on QMT.

I've no idea how you did the migration from QMR/ldap.

The simplest way I can think of would be to write a script that uses the
/home/vpopmail/bin/vadduser command to create the user accounts. There
are some examples of this in the QMT list archives. After the accounts
are created, the Maildirs can be tarballed up from the QMR system and
restored on QMT. I'm not certain, but you might need to adjust
permissions on the Maildirs.

Forwards might be an issue for you. They're stored in MySQL on QMT. I'm
not sure where they are in QMR.

Have you searched the list archives for other Qmail Rocks content?
You'll likely find some.

Of course the simplest route for a migration depends on how many domains
and users there are. It might be simpler and faster to add users and
forwards manually than to try to script it.

HTH.

P.S. When you're done with this, it'd be nice to see a write-up about it
on the
http://wiki.qmailtoaster.com/index.php/Migrating_from_non-toaster_qmail
that covers QMR specifically.

P.P.S. Welcome to QMT! :)

I googled the error message, and the first hit was this:

Appears that it might be right on target.

[qmailtoaster] concerning server for qmailtoaster

2009-11-13 Thread Rajesh M
hello

i have a centos server
2 X dual core 1.6 ghz
with 4 gb ram
with around 4200 email boxes

i was facing problems of high load during office hours -- top command used
display load ranging from 5 to 35. I log server load every minute.

i increased ram from 4 gb to 8 gb and processor from 1.6 ghz to 2 ghz but
However it did not make any significant change in the load.

Then i upgraded from the 250 gb sata drive to a 1 TB sata drive

there was a huge change in the load -- the load came down dramatically it
is now between 1 - 2.5 even during peak working hours

what could be reasoning for this ?

is this related to disk i/o ?

thanks
rajesh
