You could also use "taps" to archive every email that goes through the
server.

This cannot (and arguably should not) be done in the server. It needs to

[qmailtoaster] Slow SMTP

2009-03-11 Thread Kisakye Alex
Hi All,

I've had a slow SMTP spell this afternoon, after running a few test (dig
tool) is discovered my server was not reaching 'lists.dsbl.org' I disabled
it and now SMTP is back to normal superfast..

I have a DNS on my mail machine so I run

[r...@mail ~]# dig @127.0.0.1 A lists.dsbl.org

; <<>> DiG 9.2.4 <<>> @127.0.0.1 A lists.dsbl.org

; (1 server found)

;; global options: printcmd

;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached

Has anyone experienced this?

Sounds like a DNS issue. Your server will perform a reverse DNS
lookup on the IP connecting during the initial transaction.
What does your /var/qmail/supervise/pop3/run file look like? Try
adding an -H to the tcpserver options to disable remote IP lookups.

Thanks Jake,
I've adjusted the run file like below and it connected although it took
close to 40 seconds... which is tooo slow for a connection on LAN... Any
ideas on what else i should tweak? here is the run file

Now that I think of it, the script creates the greylist directories for you.
If you have many domains and they're all using greylisting, you might want
to use the option which creates the directories automatically for you
(always-create IIRC). Check the documentation.

Yes, I could see that. I run the script modifying the version to 4.x. So it
compiled spamdyke, created all directories and config files. Then, I
modified config file by hand to include the new options. Now it is working
fine with greylisting enabled. I'm monitoring log files to assure a correct
delivery.

As all the 2 servers will use mysql database, has anyone done such a migration,
please assist.

ALex,

I don't see any glaring problem. In local.cf I'd use
skip_rbl_checks 0
but that's not a big thing.

Can you find and post the smtp log messages that correspond to this message?

If the smtp log for this message appears normal, I think I'd try using
full-log-dir=/var

warn: Use of uninitialized value in string eq at

Can someone help me sort this out. A few changed I had done to this box
were disabling domain keys, could that be responsible and on another
note, a few of my outlook users are getting errors connecting to the
smtp server.

from smtp i can see a few of these

[qmailtoaster] Testimony

2007-08-01 Thread Kisakye ALex
Greetings,

My toaster this month has made one year!!

Looking back at the past months, I have had more peaceful days with toaster
running, no failures, no hiccups, ease of administration, a busy mailing
list with users helping users, spam is down etc.

The only issues I have had are when my server HDD failed. I moved my toaster
(Backup and restore scripts) to a PIII, 450MHz. and it was a smooth move not
even my average computer users could tell a difference.

I JUST WANT TO THANK ALL THAT MAINTAIN THIS PROJECT.

FIRSTNAME LASTNAME USERNAME

And automatically adds the users in the text file, creates a comment field
sets a default quota and password

Suggestions are welcome.

The script is attarched. Its still missing some functionality but its work

I don't have one, but it could easily be scripted. You still need some sort
of list of users, though. Then just use each user from the list in your
/home/vpopmail/bin/vadduser command in a loop.

I wrote a custom script that checks a few things:
- It sends a local account an e-mail, and waits for delivery (takes 0-3
seconds)
- Looks for pop errors (unknown user and password failed
- Verified processes are up

And soon to be added:
- compares the directories in /home/vpopmail/domains with
/var/qmail/control/virtualdomains
- look for values under 60 in the output of qmailctl stat

RE: [qmailtoaster] SMTP & POP in separate machines how to..

2007-03-28 Thread Kisakye Alex
Ashok,

I don't quite get what you are trying to achieve, but if you just want your
users to have smtp.exmp.com and pop.exmp.com, you only have to

Create alias for that machine 'mail.exmp.com' in your DNS server.

I have 4 virtual domains - each have 50 + emails ids. In Mysql DB -
vpopmail.

Now im planning to have a separate SMTP as e.g:- smtp.exmp.com and POP3:-

machines?

Pls suggest.

Thanks in advance

Anyone with idea on how to combat this

It will accept mail for any domain that is listed in rcpthosts. You can
then do smtproutes (or run an internal DNS server) and have it send the
messages to the other box.

Follow Up,
I've actually managed to sort out part of my problem using the
smtproutes file on my "toaster B" so mail going outside from "toaster
B" is routed through "toaster A". Qn. how do i get my "Toaster A" to
receive mail for a domain on "Toaster B" and forward it to "toaster B"
respectively.

Hope this isn't confusing

Looks like you either forgot to restore /etc/tcprules.d/tcp.smtp to
allow your local ip's without authentication, or you forgot to to
configure smtp-auth on the outlook client.

[qmailtoaster] Changing QT ip address

Greetings,
I have had toaster running for 6 months hiccup free!
We are currently changing ISP's due to management decisions, so i have to
change the current IP address on my toaster!
My question therefore is beside changing the interface IP (of course) and
DNS MX records are there any other files I may need to change in order to
continue with the smooth running of my toaster?

Thanks

I am installing this incredible qmail-toaster in my fedora core 5 linux.

I THINK this is on the wiki something about leaving certain fields empty
when creating the domain( Accounts, forwards, aliases etc), you should fill
those you need to disable with Zero '0'.

Am rushing out otherwise would have pointed you to the right page on the

We do not use domain keys. Our first emails were in
Bulk folder but when we checked them as not spam,
Yahoo learned and now they go to inbox (Even sender is

WIll it be possible that Outlook gets timeout while downloading email /
waiting your server to reply?  Try to increase the timeout period to,
say, 5 minutes and see if it works better.

Have you tried to enter the IP address, instead of mail.domain.com, in Outlook?  If
it works fine, then may be it's a problem of your DNS server.

Am not a pro either!

but to get things started you need to have a DNS entry that points

to
your email server as webmail.xyz.com then depending on the linux
distribution that you are running you need to edit your httpd.conf
file
to have virtual host container for webmail.xyz.com! I stand to be
corrected =ALex

First Off can I say how good QMT actually is, I am a serious Linux
novice but managed to install with only minor problems, and all but
one of them aren't stopping the mail server, in particular webmail
working as I would like it too.

So on to the problem I would like to address the webmail pages
as webmail.xyz.com instead of www.xyz.com/webmail is this possible?
if so could someone please advise me how to do it

Many Thanks in advance

Richard

Re: [qmailtoaster] qmailadmin problems

2006-10-25 Thread Kisakye Alex

Hi Guys,
was this problem sorted out!
This morning I added a new domain to my toaster and I noted that its menu in
qmailadmin does not show.
Qmail admin for my previous domain shows though, its just the new domain
that is not behaving normal

You are correct, i can't see qmailadmin page links. when loged in as
postmaster i can only see:
domain name
Main menu (text, not link)

on the left side i can see refresh menu and logout
below i can see only quick links title without links.

Bottom line, i can't see any administrator link.
I've installed it form rpm, included in qmailtoaster distro. Everything
worked and then suddenly nothing works (in qmailadmin).

Again, I don't know.
Something must have 'suddenly' changed. :(
Anything in /var/log/httpd/error_log or access_log?
Anything in virtual domain logs?

Nothing, not one error :(

I really don't know (yet) how all that web stuff works.

That being said, I think I'd try creating a new test domain using
/home/vpopmain/bin/vadddomain, and see if that comes up on signon. I'm
thinking there might be something amiss with the domain you're logging on
to. Give it a try, and that might help narrow things down.

I gave a partial zone file but yes I have an A record for bbc, so the
more elaborate file is like this! my interpretation of the file is that
all mail to bbc.school.ac.ug is directed to sc-103 machine
--

bbc IN A 196.108.254.90
mail IN A 196.108.254.19 ;for the existing MTA
sc-103IN A 196.108.254.90 ;for the qmail toaster

@ IN MX 10 mail ;for the existing domain
bbc IN MX 10 sc-103 ;for qmail toaster box

Please post some tails of the send and smtp logs when you try and
reply to the Yahoo message.
Also check your bulk/junk/spam folder on your Yahoo account. It
will probably send your replies there by default unless you set up
domain keys.

[qmailtoaster] firewall

2006-09-04 Thread Kisakye Alex

Hi list
i have just installed a test box for
qmail-toaster
am using fedora-core 5 and also an internal ip
address (ie 192.168...)!
Now the problem is that i can't access the box
using ssh, or even http://ip/admin-toaster/ , I cant even ping
the box anymore! all this was possible on this box before i started
installation! Could have the firewall locked me out? How can I reconfigure
it(firewall)

Thanks
Alex
