It's #1 because it pretty much just works with everything. Install it
and if all your hardware doesn't just work I'd be surprised. You don't
have to fiddle with it like Fedora or some of the other distros.
And you're right - I was speaking of Debian distros in general, not any
specific. Some do get more updates than others, but they all seem to
use newer versions of software and as such receive more updates because
the software isn't as tried and true as the versions other distros like
RHEL/Cent use. I was mainly speaking from my experience - the RHEL/Cent
servers get a couple updates once a month or so, and the Debian machines
I have get updates pretty much weekly. They may be cosmetic for the most
part, but updates none-the-less.

I use it as a desktop and on my laptop. I have 3 or 4 servers that are
Ubuntu, and they're the same management wise as Debian machines.
CentOS/RHEL is a considered more stable, but they also don't use the

latest package releases. Your Ubuntu/Debian machines will use newer

RE: [qmailtoaster] QMT and Ubuntu

2008-06-09 Thread richard
Hi Sergio,

I too agree with Kyle, Ubuntu is not as widely used for Servers as
CentOS. CentOS is essentially RedHat, just rebadged.

Go CentOS if you have the choice. It's a proven solution and QMT runs
beautifully on it.

Just my 2p too

Thanks for your thoughts- Sergio

I've built a couple packages (non-QMT, but Qmail) for Ubuntu, and I use
it for a few servers. It's the same as the Debian servers I've set up -
depends on what you need to do.
