[QUAD-L] About off road wheelchairs

2006-05-19 Thread RONALD L PRACHT
Hey, The majic mobility x4 and x5 look like pretty tough chairs, but I have a Quickie p-222 special edition chair that I was given at Gateway International Raceway in Illinois and its a damn tough chair as well and parts are easy to attain. After I installed an auto seatbelt, and adjusted the front footplate high enough not to bottom out I take it in some crazy places. The main problem Ive had which is my own fault, is I get flat tires because I didnt request solid tires. I will admit the x5 and maybe the x4 could outdo my p-222 in serious offroading, but  I can take my quickie up enough grade in the grass hills that I half to lean flat against my knees to keep the chair on all fours, doesnt bog down a bit. It has five speeds, with torque adjustment knob. I bought a programmer on ebay for 30 and put the chair in the max settings. If I had any more power it would be dangerous. If I put the chair in the fifth speed with max torque and
punch it I can ride a long wheelie. The top fuel drag racer that hired Quickie to build about 50 of these chairs is Darryl Gwen. He used to race for the Gwen-Steinbreiner Yankees race team. Hes a quad himself after a serious accident that turned him into a c5 with one arm. He chose one person from each state he races in to receive a p-222 chair. Im not sure how I got picked but a woman called me in 2001 and asked if I want a special power chairI said yesand she told me where to go to receive it. I really didnt believe it all until a Quickie vendor came and measured me and told me I could build the chair anyway I wanted for not a dime. This was luck I guess they picked me, that was a story Ill tell for years to come.      Ron c7

If I had $2000 to play with I would probably check out the chair myself.  Because it is the style that I use now.  Unfortunately it is in Virginia and I am in Arizona.  But shares are outrageously priced so that is a good deal.

An additional good thing would be that you would eliminate all the crap that we have to put up with in trying to get an electric wheelchair these days.

The chair that I have now that looks very similar in all ways shapes and forms charged Medicare $18,000.  And that was in 1999!

Pricey compared to what?
Voc-Rehab paid $10,500 for my X5 I thought this was an excellent chair.
I've had mine 2 years and go places I'd never attempt in my quickie.
It's an all terrain chair with great suspension.
Just thought I'd pass on the deal I seen but if you get a chance definitely try one out.
You can check www.wheelchairjunkie.com and see many post on this chair if you want more info or check http://www.magicmobility.com.au/index.htm the manufactures.

Dan get your Dr. or neurologist to write you a script for outpatient assessment at Rehabilitation Hospital of Saint Louis. They’ll asses you and teach you how to use the equipment. That’s what I’m doing now. As I said the gyms open M-F 4:00pm – 7:00pm weekends I think 8:00am – 6:00pm you’ll have access to all the equipment there will be a staff person there 2 help with somethings. You’re supposed 2 have a friend or family member with you to assist you. Because the staff is volunteering time. Dan it’s $30.00 a mnth and I want 2 start running into you down there soon. Like I keep saying they’ve taken me off my neurotin & effexor maybe that’s part of the eurphoria I’m feeling about exercise & equipment. But it may be psychological but I’m feeling better mentally and physically without the pills & added exercise.
Dan I also got an application from ShowMeAquatics Rons on their website. Can’t wait 2 try some of the swimming out either. Medicaid suffers here in this state but they keeping me happy with thoughts of exercise and state of the art equipment I’d not accessed B4 :)
