Re: [QUAD-L] Wayward Spouses
Has anyone else had to deal with this? More of us than would care to acknowledge I'm sure. Sometimes age alone diminishes the spark we all had one time. I've been married for 33 years to the same woman and now we both have lost most of our interest. She also has put on a lot of weight and that also has made things difficult. Sometimes you just settle for a good companion that loves you even tho you are disabled - sometimes they are glad you aren't too demanding in the bedroom. Sometimes they rush to your aid whenever you are in need and otherwise in general, take care of you. This really isn't such a bad trade for inactivity in the bedroom. We had our days and now we have our nights - for sleep. o'c In a message dated 7/27/2006 12:32:38 P.M. Last week was the 2006 Rare Neuroimmunologic Disorders Symposium in Baltimore. It was co-sponsored by The Transverse Myelitis Association (which I am a part of) and The Johns Hopkins Project Restore. We had hoped to have it in Seattle again so I could attend but it would have added to the cost. We managed to do the next best thing and setup a live Internet feed for me. I was really cool watching live and being able to talk via webcam with a few people. I even asked one of the doctors a question during a q&a. Some of you will really enjoy the new research going on. I'll have the videos on our web site soon after the DVDs are ready. The other one was our family reunion in Kona, Hawaii. It was for the descendents of my great, great grandfather. I had setup the web site where most of us second cousins got in contact with each other, and also the did the logo for the t-shirts. They really wanted me to be included. One cousin setup 2 network cameras and a video camera camera connected to a slingbox. It was neat to watch the live band and some of the cousin's dance the hula. Re: [QUAD-L] Wayward Spouses / Sex
I've never been married but have had several partners in the last 20 years. The longest relationship lasted 8 years and the sex was, as in any relationship, hot and heavy in the beginning then dwindled off to practically nothing in the last 2 years, which really irked me as I'd hit my 30s and went into hormone overload it seemed! In the 4 years we've been apart I've had sex only a few times and like Sandy I really miss having that intimacy. W: as far as your "rent a horny male crip" goes - the logistics of getting the two quads and or quad / para "together" usually requires involving other people and I, personally, dunno about the rest of you, have no intention of asking others to get involved in that aspect of my life. I already don't have enough privacy as it is! But, if you're aware of a "rent a horny AB" program (no, I don't mean prostitutes) let us know, ok? Stephanie C3-C4 quad

Any subject is fair game as long as ya don't start slinging donkey dung, lol. On most subjects you are protected by Freedom of Speech, unless of course you violate some of those other equally important amendments of our Constitute. I live in an area that is surrounded by religious colleges and schools that have outreach programs for their students each year. We have a very nice sign by our door bell that says. We won't violate your right to free speech, if you don't violate our right to religion Some take the time to read it, while others either choose not to or can't read. When that happens, we can be rude or courteous. Just like our Constitution. Respecting others is a lost artform. [QUAD-L] Anyone have any fun or vacations this year ?
I have been a quad 9 years this Aug. 3rd, Me and my wife took our 1st vacation since I was injured last year..we went to Memphis and saw many of the area sites and attractions. Each time we take our 2 oldest grandkids age 7and 8 with us. This year was our 2nd trip... we got back from Branson, Missouri last weekend, It was very hot but we survived lol . I had a UTI but took levequin and went on the trip anyway...Branson has a lot of really neat shows and restaurants, we really enjoyed it although next time we will travel when the weather is cooler. We stayed at the Branson Clarion Palace right next to the President Suite room 517 where Ex - President George Bush and his wife stayed in 1992. They call his old room the President Suite now and rent it---His Suite was much larger than ours with extra rooms too. Too bad hotels don't have lifts for bed to wheelchair transfers but my wife did pretty well moving me with a slide board.I was really worried on that issue because here at home We have an over-head bed lift. Vacation is fun but still a lot of work for my wife with me and grandkids, some of the shows we saw were Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede-- The Bald Knobbers--and Kirby Van Burch the world Famous Magician. Has anyone else had any fun vacations or trips this year? Dan

That be great Dan. I'm not the email police but another thing is I'm not interested in being a voyeur on personal notes between two members. Lots of people leave due to the number of emails generated from the q-list. It's a potential of information; however, replying LOL to the whole list is a waste of a byte. Topics change from spousal neglect to AD to who's going to win the World series (Mets, btw) So before you hit send check who's in the receive box. If it says q-list and five other people they get 2 of the same emails. I think sex probably isn't discussed here, (and I know I'm fairly new to the list), cuz for the majority of us, (I'm guessing), it's pointless to go get some. No payoff. -Angie Lori Michaelson wrote: Angie,[and others] I have been on this list since 1995 and we have had numerous discussions on religion. They, of course, got into very heated debates. [QUAD-L] Wayward Spouses
Over the years I've noticed that spouses respond to our paralysis by either being 110% supportive or by checking out. That's tough. When I became paralyzed, my husband checked out. He lives in the basement and I sometimes don't see him for days. It took a long time to adjust to a situation I didn't want. Then there's the absence of touch. With ALS I can feel EVERYTHING, EVERYWHERE... I just can't move. So sex COULD be great but I lost my partner. Has anyone else had to deal with this? Sandy

There was a couple who took a trip to England to shop in a beautiful antique store to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They both liked antiques and pottery, and especially teacups. Spotting an exceptional cup, they asked "May we see that? We've never seen a cup quite so beautiful." As the lady handed it to them, suddenly the teacup spoke, "You don't understand. I have not always been a teacup. There was a time when I was just a lump of red clay. My master took me and rolled me pounded and patted me over and over and I yelled out, "Don't do that." "I don't like it!" "Let me alone," but he only smiled, and gently said; "Not yet!" Then. WHAM! I was placed on a spinning wheel and suddenly I was spun around and around and around. Stop it! I'm getting so dizzy! I'm going to be sick" I screamed. But the master only nodded and said, quietly; 'Not yet.' He spun me and poked and prodded and bent me out of shape to suit himself and then .. Then he put me in the oven. I never felt such heat. I yelled and knocked and pounded at the door. "Help! Get me out of here!" I could see him through the opening and I could read his lips as he shook his head from side to side, 'Not yet'. When I thought I couldn't bear it another minute, the door opened. He carefully took me out and put me on the shelf, and I began to cool. Oh, that felt so good! "Ah, this is much better," I thought. But, after I cooled he picked me up and he brushed and painted me all over. The fumes were horrible. I thought I would gag. 'Oh, please,Stop it, Stop, I cried. He only shook his head and said. 'Not yet!'. Then suddenly he put me back in to the oven. Only it was not like the first one. This was twice as hot and I just knew I would suffocate. I begged. I pleaded. I screamed. I cried. I was convinced I would never make it. I was ready to give up. Just then the door opened and he took me out and again placed me on the shelf, where I cooled and waited and waited, wondering "What's he going to do to me next?" <>An hour later he handed me a mirror and said 'Look at yourself.' And I did. I said, "That's not me; that couldn't be me. It's beautiful. I'm beautiful!" Quietly he spoke: "I want you to remember, then,' he said, 'I know it hurt to be rolled and pounded and patted, but had I just left you alone, you'd have dried up. I know it made you dizzy to spin around on the wheel, but if I had stopped, you would have crumbled. I know it hurt and it was hot and disagreeable in the oven, but if I hadn't put you there, you would have cracked. I know the fumes were bad when I brushed and painted you all over, but if I hadn't done that, you never would have hardened. You would not have had any color in your life. If I hadn't put you back in that second oven, you wouldn't have survived for long because the hardness would not have held. Now you are a finished product. Now you are what I had in mind when I first began with you." The moral of this story is this: God knows what He's doing for each of us. He is the potter, and we are His clay. He will mold us and make us, and expose us to just enough pressures of just the right kinds that we may be made into a flawless piece of work to fulfill His good, pleasing and perfect will. So when life seems hard, and you are being pounded and patted and pushed almost beyond endurance; when your world seems to be spinning out of control; when you feel like you are in a fiery furnace of trials; when life seems to "stink", try this Brew a cup of your favorite tea in your prettiest tea cup, sit down and think on this story and then, have a little talk with the Potter.

I don't know if I am counted on the list as one of the women who speak out or not. I do go through spells when I speak more than others. This usually depends on the subject being talked about and how many others are already discussing it. I don't see the need to jump in if I think enough action is happening.
