Re: [QUAD-L] bad chair

2008-08-01 Thread John S.
The TDX3 is a bottom of the line midwheel drive chair that can handle virtually
all the aftermarket living attachments. I have a 6 year old one that has 1232
miles on it and 7400 hours. i am not fond of it's battery size but the new AGM
batteries have made a difference with it. Like any chair, seating is what makes
most of us like a chair. I feel like I have done a miracle by keeping it in
decent shape so long. My old Storm series had rear wheel drive had big
batteries and did 10 mph, but the DME didn't put in the effort on the chair
seating. I miss the power but I like the way this chair gets around in tight
places.
I'm just curious as hell what has happened to your tdx3? Do you have tilt and
recline? Did the DME turn off those restrictive safetys that don't let you move
while in tilt or recline? Are castor tires coming off? I had a swedish chair
that had tilt, recline and elevate when I worked. (too many drugs, can't
'member da name). It held up for 11 years but when it died there was no fixing
it.
I firmly believe that because of all the time and care behind the seating in
this tdx3, it is the most comfortable chair  I have ever had. Batteries don't
last much more than a year. It has  gone through a lot of tires and it has the
MK5 electronics so I do switch off and on a lot.
So, just to restate myself, wtf are your chairs doing wrong?
Best to all of you,
john

Where do you get parts for these?  I have a 96 that just died, and I can't
stand the TDX3 I have.

Alan
Hi Alan,
All three of mine were bought from private owners (newspaper classifieds). I
drive with one, use the other to run around in the house because I live in Ohio
and don't want to drag in the snow mud. The other, which is just about
stripped by now, we bought for parts. I'm also fortunate that once a year we
can take our chairs to Invacare we can get anything done to them at no cost.
Invacare and local business's sponsors the event. Last year they gave us two
new 'carry home' motors but most work is done on site. Anyway, people on the
list have posted about a Wheelchair junkie who sells parts. I have the TDX3
myself, it sits in the closet, I don't like it either!

RE: [QUAD-L] bad chair

2008-08-01 Thread Greg
I hated my TDX3 for 2 reasons.

First was the electric legrest. Each legrest has it's own built on motor so
you have to plug/unplug it every time you take the legrest off. They just
looked and felt big.

Second was the electronics. I don't know if it's the motors, gears, or
motherboard, but it was hard to drive it in a straight line. Like when you
are going down a sidewalk and it starts to veer to the left, when you try to
adjust using the joystick it clicks and jerks back. There was no smooth way
to make slight adjustments in steering.

My TDX5 is totally different. I ordered a single post legrest. It started
out bad, keeping my feet to close together making my ankles turn in. But
after they put a wider plate on the feet pad and spreading my feet apart, my
legs and feet sit much nicer. And it's such a better ride, very quiet and
smooth driving.

It has tilt, recline, electric leglift, and seat riser. They were nice and
canceled that annoying safety feature that keeps you from driving when it's
tilted or reclined or raised up.

My only complaint is it can not tilt/recline as flat with the seat raiser
installed. My old Permobil could tilt/recline slightly more than flat. So If
I was slightly slide out of my sitting position I could go flat and wiggle
myself back up. Now I'm at something like 20 degrees from flat. Harder for
someone to help slide my up also.

I do wish it was faster, but midwheel chairs are not as safe at faster
speeds. But I love the mobility, I can turn completely around inside my
minivan. Plus I have a few sharp corners in my house.

Dear Dana Wray,
(http://ga3.org/ct/r7SxI371KYgk/) Our brand new Stand Up for Health Care
website is already making a big splash.
Thousands of people have visited the site to learn about the health care
crisis and take action in support of guaranteed quality, affordable health
care
for all. Together, we're going to make a major impact on the national
health care debate.
But that will only happen if activists like you continue to come together to
make a strong, united call for real health care reform.
You can do your part by signing our petition to John McCain and Barack
Obama. The petition sends a clear message that the American people will hold
the
candidates accountable for improving our nation's health care system so that
no one is left out.
Stand Up for Health Care by signing our petition right now:

Looking at the comments from the thousands of petition signers so far, I got
a strong reminder of why this issue is so important for all Americans.
Here's what some of our supporters had to say:

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness - these are fundamental
principles which form the basis of our Constitution. All of these aims are
dependent
on access to affordable health care.
-- William from Arizona
We need better health care for our citizens. I'm one of the lucky ones. As
a teacher I have good benefits. But many of my students and their families
aren't so lucky, and can't get the treatment that they need.
-- Meredith from Pennsylvania
Because one is not in perfect health is no reason to deny health insurance.
After all, health insurance is for when you are sick and in need of it!
-- Jack from Oregon
Adequate, affordable health care should be a civil right, guaranteed to all
residents of the United States. It is criminal that insurance companies can
cherry pick who they cover and what services they feel like paying for. The
frequency of bankrupcy caused by health care expenses is appalling. I
expect whoever wins the presidency to make health care a priority!!!
-- Carol from Pennsylvania

name to our petition for quality, affordable health care for all:

[QUAD-L] serious health questions

2008-08-01 Thread ~LittleQuad~
i have really low bp, like 50/30s and started med for it but not helping, plus
i'm fainting at least 2 times a days.(i have fainted all my life, when scared
real bad or hurt but never daily unttil last few months) then i'm so exhausted
from that i don't want to do much. my son (10 yrs old) has been gone while this
problem has become so invading and i'm worried what he'll think we he realizes
it, he worries about me a lot anyway, never admit it though.
my pcp had mri brain, cervical area, ecg, and vascular ultrasound of neck done,
all results were normal. so referral to cardiac doc and he ran ekg, seemed ok,
but put me on 24/7 heart moniter for 30 days, several spells in 3 days. he
doubled the midodrine* plus referred me to a Electrophysiologist (the names are
getting weirder). it is really scary cuz i was the youngest patient in 4 story
building by 20 years i'm only 28! i keep getting uti's, will cure
one 2 weeks later its on the way back. my urologist and rehab doc don't like
each other or agree on what to do and i don't know which to go with. the rehab
doc wants to fight the uti's by inserting some bacteria, he says iss new
procedure, my uro says the rehab doc is young dodo for nice terms. ugh so i'm
going to go see uro again to see what to do.
   anyone else have similar probs?
  thankslittlequad
