Re: [QUAD-L] sore advice and pressure relief.
I think you'll be ok now that your cushion is properly inflated. I had a sore that I got in rehab over the summer heal while sitting on my roho after they got me on an air mattress at night. Its the other sore that got infected and lead to another surgery in almost the same place as the sore I got fixed last year. When I met with the wheelchair dealer for a new chair, he said that he has seen people heal on a roho cushion. As long as it has the proper amount of air in it and pressure relief is being done. Speaking of pressure relief, since I got this surgery fusing my back even more, I am not longer able to get any sort of shoulder deppresion that leaves me unable to get my butt off of the surface. I lean now. I haven't gotten any new breakdown since the episode over the summer but am curious how you all do your pressure relief. My wife said it looks sort of like a purple colored bruisecan you guys tell me the best things to put on one early---when it has not even opened up??? is lantaseptic or bag balm good for it ?? i'm real worried because last april, i got a blister on my heel from my wife buying a pair of tennis shoes one size too small---that turned into a pressure sore and now 7 months later it is still slightly discolored and i still only wear sandal type shoe to keep all pressure off that area. So besides the last shoe incidentthis is my 1st time with a butt area pressure sore---i know to do pressure release and stay off as much as possible-- but not sure what to put on it in the early stages. thanks for any help ! Re: [QUAD-L] Flap surgery and Picc line
They have you flush it after each dose. Make sure you follow those instructions because the pic could get a blood clot then you will really have problems. Mine wasn't properly flushed in the hospital and then they had to call the iv team to my room to get it unclogged. I actually just got finished with long term antibiotics and cared for my own pic line. I would just do what the nurse tells you to. She should set it up, give him his first dose and show you how to do it. I hope it all goes well for you, Stacy From: floreen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: quad-list@eskimo.com Sent: Monday, December 8, 2008 7:06:11 PM Subject: [QUAD-L] Flap surgery and Picc line My husband recently had a flap surgery and is set to come home on Thursday. Mine was Dr ordered for a home health nurse *to do* *it*. I've had a PICC line in at home twice in the last 4 years. The less my husband has to do (and he is doing 99+% of my daily care) the better. [QUAD-L] NINE WORDS WOMEN USE
NINE WORDS WOMEN USE (1) Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are Right and you need to shut up. (2) Five Minutes: If she is getting dressed, this means a half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more Minutes to watch the game before helping around the house. (3) Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, And you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing Usually end in fine. (4) Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It! (5) Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement Often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an Idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing With you about nothing. (Refer back to # 3 for the meaning of nothing.) (6) That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statement s a women Can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard Before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake. (7) Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say You're welcome. (I want to add in a clause here - This is true, unless She says 'Thanks a lot' - that is PURE sarcasm and she is not thanking You at all. DO NOT say 'you're welcome'. That will bring on a 'Whatever'). (8) Whatever: Is a woman's way of giving you the finger. (9) Don't worry about it, I got it: Another dangerous statement, meaning This is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but Is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'what's Wrong?' For the woman's response refer to # 3. * Send this to the men you know, to warn them about arguments they can avoid if they remember the terminology. * Send this to all the women you know to give them a good laugh, cause they know it's true!!!

Hi flo--- l don't know much about the flap, but as far as the pic line...i was sent home with one last April- they sent out a nurse to show us how to do it, plus leave instructions and a call number if you need any help or have questions, we were worried but my wife caught on to how to do it and it was not to hard for her. good luck and hope all goes well. I used to stand to transfer and used a manual chair for the 1st 38 years of this 'quad' thing. Now I'm electric - and my fingers and shoulders feel much better but getting dressed is much harder now as is getting into bed. I think I know where this all is going and I don't like it at all. I made a bad transfer a few years ago and heard something down under 'crunch'. As it turns out, it was my urethra which then leaked into my perineum and within days I had a uti that nearly killed me. I now take all my transfers very carefully and slowly making sure I don't goof up. I come down my van ramp backwards so I don't kiss the driveway - again, and I always have my cell phone with me just in case. In our cases, an ounce of prevention is definitely worth a ton of cure!!
