[QUAD-L] new wheelchair!

2010-04-30 Thread Jim Lubin

Just got my new wheelchair yesterday. It's been 8 yrs since my last one.
The main parts include:
Invacare Torque 3 with Formula CG Tilt/Recline Powered Seating
MK6i electronics with sip-n-puff controller
The Savant Headrest -

http://www.symmetric-designs.com/the-savant-2.html
Roho High Profile Quadtro Select Cushion
I fairly happy with it but am having a little trouble getting use to new
MK6 electronics. It is so different from the old MK4 electronics. The new
headrest is much nicer from my old one and supports my head better.
Total cost... $31,065!

I've been using the quatro since my injury, over 4 years now and have never had
a problem with it, not really sure what you guys mean by the stability issues,
I feel pretty stable, maybe it has to do with how well inflated it is? or the
way your chair holds it in? I don't know but I have no problem with mine, never
had a pressure sore either and I stopped doing my tilts a long time ago. Maybe
my big butt is what helps lol.

I have the Quadtro, I like it OK. I don't see much extra stability in it.
The lower profile might help, but I tend to sit tilted when watching TV so that
puts more weight on a smaller area so I'm afraid my butt might bottom out.
There is one that has foam/gel only in the front part of the cushion under your
thighs. Roho balloons under your butt area still. That should give much better
stability. Roho - Hybrid Elite

2010-04-30 Thread Dan

Hi Dan,

I do sit to one side due to a severe scoliosis. I'm glad you had good
results with the Quatro roho. I am definitely going to try it. As it
is now, even the slight slope of a sidewalk will start my body
tipping the wrong way. My spine is fused so there's not much they can
do about that. Hopefully, this cushion will do the trick. Thanks for the help.

At 07:03 PM 4/30/2010, Danny Hearn said something that elicited my response:

HI , Dan- I was just like you--I only used the regular high profile
for most my years, then about a year ago mine got a leak and while
my dme was checking it, they gave me a high profile quatro as a
loaner--- well I liked it so much that I bought that one and have
been on it every since--even after they gave me a new regular high
profile to replace my old one. I was afraid to try the quatro
because I never had pressure sore on leg or bottombut was
asurred that the quatro is much better and safer with 4
compartments-you are protected still if one section loses air,
plus if hips or uneven or posture is off---they can let the air out
of one side some to correct that my seating specialist told us. I
think i'll stay in the quatro for good-- and it seems more stable to
me. Ono of the other Dan's on this list---( Dan H* )

Re: [QUAD-L] Unidentified subject!

2010-04-30 Thread Quadius
I didn't use my chest strap, except in my van, for many years. On one
particular occasion I was daydreaming as I crossed a wooden bridge and then
it donned on me that I was going out into a busy sidewalk. So I sidled over
to the left and accidentally hooked my left rear tire on the corner of the
bridge. Since I was driving a Peachtree, it naturally through me to the left
and I ended up barely off the sidewalk with my face all the way down at my
knees and my rear wheels spinning hopelessly in the air. Thankfully it was a
busy road and some wonderful gentleman who ride around in a golf cart doing
work for the community came by and helped me out. What's truly sad is for 20
minutes cars drove by and did nothing.

Thank goodness my image care at a bar that protected the actuator on the
bottom of the wheelchair. That particular thing hooked a segment of the
sidewalk as I was heading toward the ditch that I ended up dangling over.
Then again there's that time I went off the sidewalk on the side of my
house. I kept thinking I could get back up on the sidewalk in all I
succeeded in doing was sliding further down the incline until I was wedged
up against my neighbors wouldn't fence. Some of my neighbors came by about
20 minutes later and after getting more help from more neighbors, they were
able to pull me out. Thankfully I was in the shade. That would've been a
whole different story if I would've ended up in the sun down here in the
middle of summer. It's 80° today and that's not even bad.

PS I live in the Tampa area.

That's the same exact advice I got from my doctor. I have my spasms under
control and he refused to even consider the pump unless I have some sort of
problems with the medication.

Is it me or have I noticed that in far too many cases with healthcare aids
and workers that they are often in worse health then the people who they
take care of? The also applies to Doctors, Nurses and home aids. By Law,
they don't have to disclose any health conditions or if they have or carry
any infections while taking care of you. Has anyone else noticed this too?

On a side note, organ donors and receivers More then 1/2 of our organ
donations come from abroad. No, not women but rather from other countries.
