[QUAD-L] mucus in bladder

2011-03-07 Thread nichole rohling
hello all

i'm having problems with catheter and just wondered if anyone has had mucus
in their urine? we've had to change my cath twice in 3 weeks - urine has
mucus in it and it is clogging my cath.

just wondering if you can have yeast in the bladder? i'm not symptomatic of
a uti. i know i need to go see a urologist :( but thought i'd get your
input.

Dear Nicole,

I have always had more "sediment" or "sand" in my urine over the years that
has caused the catheter to block. If mucus is UNUSUAL FOR YOU... might not
be a bad idea to have your doctor order a urinalysis first and then a
culture displayed the results of the urinalysis. After that is done... a
urologist or just a doctor would be able to tell you it's something
different is going on besides the usual bugs that will always remain present
for anyone who indwelling catheter.

In the last 31 years I have only gone to a couple urologists myself. But
the last time was the most important time. I kept getting UTIs back to back
and not "friendly UTIs" like those that are caused by E. coli, etc..
Anyway, after several years went by and the bugs got to be more dangerous
(pathogens) I found out that I had 8 large rocks in my bladder! I had them
removed in the summer of 2006 by a wonderful urologist that I found here by
asking around.

The bladder stones were obviously harboring the bacteria as well as the
bacteria embedding itself into my bladder walls. After I got them removed I
thought that would be the end of my UTIs. But not soon afterward I got
another one! Both my urologist and myself were disappointed of course.

To make a long story short, potassium was my problem! Potassium has more to
do with the urinary system than people realize. I surely didn't know that
at that time and I was eating a banana a day.

I had to diagnose my own problem and did that by stumbling across an online
paragraph that described how having a higher potassium level in my body (but
I was unaware of) could be causing/encouraging the onset and then a
full-fledged UTI.

I think my urologist was a little embarrassed not to have asked me about my
potassium intake or something because after I told her what and how I found
out... she didn't have much to say.

I cut bananas out of my diet and have been UTI free ever since. I'm afraid
to say that however because you know how that can backfire!

I will add this however all the years that I did have a lot of sediment
or sand that clogged my catheter... I didn't have any UTIs (or what I call
real UTIs that have terrible symptoms like a fever). Weird.

Have a great day!
