It's a great idea. Arizona has such a Website: AZ Adaptive Technology Exchange http://www.azatexchange.org/home.php Check it out. There might be a similar site in your state that you're unaware of. Don.

Fwd: [QUAD-L] The Scooter Store 2013
I live in a town of 7500 people. There are at least four businesses that deliver oxygen, scooters, braces, etc. to those who supposedly need them. Stub your toe and you can get a scooter. Ridiculous. Scooter store ads have flooded the tv here for a long time. I have not noticed if they are still on or not. Re: [QUAD-L] The Scooter Store 2013
CMS is a huge organization. It is payment division for both Medicare and Medicaid. Both Medicare and Medicaid are administered by each state, as I understand. I don't know if some of the blame should be based on each state, but that could be part of the issue. I'm sure there are some abuses. TSS' issues with the State of Texas and CMS go back to 2005 when they were audited and found to owe 109 million dollars to CMS. TSS tried to settle with CMS for 22.5 million paid over a period of 5 years. During this time they continued to sell products and bill CMS for the equipment delivered by their offices in other states. Some say that TSS sold an average of 44,000 powered wheelchairs a year. TSS, is a private company-employee owned and leases a warehouse with little assets. They employed 1800 people with 1200 working in New Braunfels. Best Wishes In a message dated 3/15/2013 2:12:31 P.M. Re: [QUAD-L] The Scooter Store 2013
With the DME/Provider Industry, it began with the powered wheelchair/scooter and 7-8 years ago, Oxygen became the item to sell when wheelchairs were slow, as CMS also paid for that equipment. I remember about 2-3 years ago, I remember reading that CMS was expanding their payment schedule to include back and knee braces. Maybe CMS should stop paying for equipment.
