Re: [QUAD-L] Hey Ron
That was another benefit of the ephedra, I stopped the low blood pressure business. I would like to cut out carbs, but Im limited to what the cook decides to dish out for the main meal of the day. I handcycled 40 miles this month to try and counter a bad diet, lol. I used to take ephedrine to raise blood pressure. Work more effectively than the medication I now take. That's what I would be apprehensive about. I'm trying to lose my belly and the only thing that ever seems to work is low-carb diet. I have the same issue with my belly pressing down my bladder and causing issues. Re: [QUAD-L] Saturday Quad story
Speech Boards, have always been popular in rehab wards with non-verbal clients. I don't know who invented the board or when it was first created. The boards I saw were printed on corrugated plastic and contained letters A-Z and Numbers 1-10, 20..30 and so on. Popular phrases were printed on the side lines. These boards were used by Speech Therapist for clients using head pointers and lazers. I'm guessing that Bobbie was ahead of her time with her speech board and was successful with the results in helping a person to communicate with others. ATTA GIRL Bobbie! Best Wishes In a message dated 8/2/2014 7:35:32 P.M. Central Daylight Time, bobbiehumphre...@gmail.com writes: I was doing peer counseling at Kessler Institute in 1986 for over 10 years after my accident. It was not official because the head doctor did not believe I was qualified to be a peer counselor, because I did not have a college degree. Doctor Sullivan knew what I was doing but just looked the other way. One evening, at home, I got a phone call from Dr. Sullivan. He asked if I would come in and talk to a young girl age 20, her name was Karen. I walked in to room 107 to find a beautiful young brunette sitting in a wheelchair slightly recline. I introduced myself and quickly realize she was unable to speak or move any part of her body at all. She has had a severe brain stem stroke in her sleep. I would come visit Karen 3 days a week and would sit and talk to her, I was about 28 at the time. I could tell, from her eyes, if she was interested in a story I was telling or not. When I told her about me and my sister traveling across the United States camping the whole way, she started to cry. I asked her if she has camped or traveled, and through her eyes she said that she had. When away from Karen I would think about her constantly. It was a matter of time of when she would have another severe stroke and die. Everybody knew about it including Karen. I made a chart on a 3'X5' oak tag paper that consisted of the alphabet in five rows, with vowels on a separate row. When I showed it to Karen, I instructed her to blink for a row that she wanted to spell out a word and then to blink how many letters in to the row for a specific letter she wanted to be written down. Very first thing she wanted to have written out was to tell her parents that she loved them. With the doctors and her family in the room there was not a dry eye to be found, including me. I was astounded that this type of system had not existed at Kessler at all, and can tell you guys, that I was proud of myself for allowing Karen to communicate until she did die about six weeks later.
