and then place it face down on my chest so that the light does not bother
me and anytime I need to call somebody or text somebody that I need help, I
just have to say Hi Galaxy and I can do whatever. We're going to connect it
to the wheelchair batteries so that I will also be able to use it for other
things during the day. Right now during the day I use a Blueant Q3 which
means I can answer all incoming calls etc but I have to be able to have
someone push the button on the blueant to call out. However we just set up
a folding wall clothes hangar with a push stick secured to it and with some
practice I am able to push the button by myself most of the time! Yea for
technology. Everybody have a great weekend. Joan

Re: [QUAD-L] Hands-free cell phones

2014-08-18 Thread Quadius
Just wanted to let you know that the BlueAnt commute works pretty well if
you have an android phone. It cost around 50 something dollars and you can
hang it on the side of your bed. You basically Say blueant speak to me and
then it asks what you want to do. It's very similar to the no button
blueant. It also works well with the iPhone.

the only problem I found is sometimes when you call someone and they have
voicemail that doesn't hang up after certain amount of time. I can keep you
connected for quite a while. Other than that I've used it so I can call in
an emergency at night. It works well. Doesn't cost too much.

I have had some difficulties with the activating when I don't want to, but
all in all it's much better than having nothing.

Regarding the hands-free blueant, I did have one and he was great to deal
with, but unfortunately I had to send it back once for repair and then it
broke again after the warranty was over, just stopped working. I just can’t
afford the price of it every year. Although the magnet is great, I was
never able to come up with a good place to secure it on my wheelchair (we
tried multiple ways but it always was in the way or getting knocked too far
away from my ear) and because I do not stay on concrete or smooth surfaces
most of the time I am outside, it proved not to work for me. I even tried
hanging magnets where I could drive up to them to turn it on, but it
magnetized itself to the loop of the blue tooth and would pull it out of my
ear. It’s a great tool for somebody who is inside most of the time, then I
could get it to work fine, but for my lifestyle it just did not work.

I get around having to push the blueant button when I’m by myself by
texting from the computer and ask if friend or family to text me, then I
can continually text when they wake my phone. Thanks for the suggestion,
and it is a tremendous tool. Regards to all Joan

[QUAD-L] Rehabilitation doctor

2014-08-18 Thread Quadius
I hope someone can give me a hand here. My dad had spinal cord surgery,
they went in and cleaned up and putting hard were everywhere from C1 to
C6, during December of last year. He went through the whole process and did
some rehabilitation, but here we are in August and he is getting worse as
far as walking and being able to stand correctly. He is starting to look
like a hunchback when he stands.

When I've asked his wife about more rehab, she tells me he's maxed out on
Medicare. Is there anyway I can get him at rehabilitation doctor and
possibly some more rehabilitation? His surgeon has pretty much throwing up
his hands.

Any help would be appreciated. We're located down here in Largo Florida.
Actually I'm up in the north Tampa area. He lives down there.

You might check with Medicare in his state to determine if he has reached
his max and what they would suggest for further physical therapy. Did his
doctors agree that his surgery was successful? Is he co-operating with
the daily grind during the former rehab process?

I wish him and you the very best.

Re: [QUAD-L] Rehabilitation doctor

My understanding is that the doctor thinks the surgery was a success, but
doesn't really want to anything further with my father.

That's why were on the lookout for a rehabilitation doctor. I would've
known about such a thing, but I've read other people on here talking about
it previously. I'm under the VA system and we don't have such a thing.
Well, down here in Tampa we have a spinal cord clinic in our primary
physician is a spinal cord Dr. therefore we don't have need for a
rehabilitative Dr.

Thanks,

That's very cool, we only have one K-Mart in Reno, and it is ancient! So I
never go there. I always have to ask somebody to show me what's in that case

Subject: [QUAD-L] Jewelry counter

Today I was at K-Mart and I passed by the jewelry counter and noticed a
wheelchair emblem on the glass. When I stopped to look closer, I noticed
that right next wheelchair emblem a secretion of the glass counter was
lowered and clear underneath so a wheelchair could pull up and look at
different jewelry.
I never gave it much thought that the counter's are high for someone sitting
to really see a piece of jewelry at the normal hight.
Has anybody else ever seen a jewelry counter specificity for a wheelchair?

RE: [QUAD-L] Hands-free cell phones

2014-08-18 Thread Joan Anglin
It has been several months, but as I said I just cannot afford it, especially
as we have found something that works equally as well for me, and the Q3 was
only $30.00 on Amazon Marketplace. Money is an important issue for all of us,
and the difference for me of $359 or $275 for the Q2 is a major is a stumbling
block. I try very hard to buy from people who have done such an awesome job
designing and inventing things for those with disabilities, but occasionally I
just am not able to afford it.

I tried Dragon mobile, but as of right now I am comfortable with the S voice on
Galaxy4 and using the hands-free mode. Each of us of course has to choose what
works for us, and everyone has such great ideas and pointers to products we can
use. Thanks so much to all of you who have such great advice and give such
support.

RE: [QUAD-L] Hands-free cell phones

2014-08-18 Thread Joan Anglin
So very much thanks for sharing. My biggest problem is always the fact that I
want to be outside whenever possible so I need something that I can activate
relatively independently, i.e. Push the button on the blue tooth by myself. I
am usually bouncing around as we don’t have a lot of nice smooth space, so
things are moving around on my wheelchair, so I have not figured out yet how to
push the button on anything. J Because I were a chin control model I am not
able to use a mouthstick to press a button and then go to the computer etc as
the chin controller gets in the way. So far we are doing fine with the system,
but I am going to lock into switch control somehow for my computer microphone.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.
