[QUAD-L] High bp

2014-10-24 Thread alcibiates2
When my bp sky rockets it is because of full bowel or bladder or pain.
Recently, pain is the big problem. Feeling hot or sweating is my tip off. I
take ten mgs. of Norco every 4 hours. Oxy when it's not enough.
Be careful.  This can kill if not taken care of.
good luck

Re: [QUAD-L] staying warm in bed with a heating pad

2014-10-24 Thread greg
A few tips I've tried...

1. When I was in Seattle, I was always cold. I found wearing a fleece hat helped a lot. When my ears were cold, I would shiver. I still wear it at night.2 I also would keep a small heated pad, like 24x24in blanket on my lap. I was able to keep a check on it's temp so it did not burn. Found it at the drug store.
3. At night I tried wearing a t-shirt, but it would twist up. So I cut the back off, I left the collar and sleeves on. So I wear it like a hospital gown like thing. I started that when I was stuck in bed for awhile.
4. I just got this neck warmer thing. It just slips over your head and you wear it like it's a turtle neck. It feels like it's silk soft but it's not that cold feeling of silk. I think it's polyester. It's like someone cut the neck off a turtle neck shirt. I use it at night when it cools off outside.
5. Not tried it, but I just read a web page for Permobil wheelchairs (think it was them). It said an option was a hand heater. It had a clear plastic cover over your hand area. Like a motorcycle windshield. then blows warm air on your hands. Cool idea.
6. Layer clothing. Turtleneck under a sweater.
7. If all else fails, my life saver was a gas fire place.

Stay warm, Greg

have situation that I get really cold here in the Midwest and my
father is only willing to turn the heat up to 73. I have a large
master bedroom and use one of those oil filled heaters that takes
hours to really feel anything, then your to hot. I actually put a
thermometer next to my tv so I know what the actual temp is in the
room. This kinda works but I freeze at times. I tried a heating
blanket years ago and got burned when the blanket got wedged
between my knees. Somebody on the list had a heating pad trick. Im
thinking maybe put is under my upper body where I still have
feeling, maybe partially under pillow. Anybody mastered this trick.
I actually get so desperate sometimes I do pushups to heat myself
 up, lol.

[QUAD-L] Question

2014-10-24 Thread Larry Willis
I have a serious insurance question for you guys. I have private health
insurance through the Kentucky Retired Teachers Assoc. I just learned that
it will pay only 70% for 2015. That leaves a whopping 30% to come from me.
Is it possible or even worthwhile to get a supplemental policy to cover the
30%? Or do those only apply to Medicare? At age 65 I will switch to
Medicare automatically. I am 62 now. My peeps got any wisdom on this?

You qualify for Medicare no matter your age if you are disabled.

Yes, but I am not classified as disabled as long as I qualify for regular
retirement. Crazy, I know, but true.

Anyone have luck saving in a 401k without the government declaring it an
assist. For services/care. Although not accessible until a certain age.
Please advise...

Oops, quit too soon! I could qualify for disability, but I would have to give
up my pension. That would mean a bout a 50% pay cut. Whew, can't handle that!

you really should discuss with a qualified financial advisor. It's tax
deductible to talk to him. And it's well worth the money. I think there, so
some big loopholes you're missing out on.

Check out AARP, they do have supplemental Health Care plans for insurance other
than Medicare. They are pricey as my supplemental plan for Medicare is $292 a
month. Plus I have to also have a prescription plan. Joan
