[QUAD-L] Tempurpedic...........The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Well guys the bed came today, all 5000.00 dollars of it. The adjustable base itself is $350.00 pounds, then you add the rest of the matresses on top. Comes with a digital, wireless remote that is great. It has controls for the head, foot and three controls for massage mode. The headboard will not mount to the bedframe, it must be mounted to the wall itself. The bed comes with 6.5 inch removable legs which are to long for most chair users. I ordered the 4.5 inch legs and they are still to long. Im trying to figure a way to lower the bed at least an inch more to make it just right. Tomorrow Im going to try to get some 2.5 inch legs to make it just what I need. Quads needs a firm mattress for transfers and bed mobility so I went with the new version of the tempurpedic "classic" which was the previous bed I used for ten years. Upon getting on my new mattress it was very firm and scared me, but got better as it adjusted to room temps and I layed on it. Overall its been a day of hell trying to get all this stuff moved, delivered and figured out , but in the end I will be good to go bed wise for another ten years. I ordered a different type of pillows this time instead of the tempurpedic pillows. I wanted pillows made of memory foam but were capable of being used on both sides. Ron

Re: [QUAD-L] Bliister
Well, bad news is the blister busted. I have no idea how it happened. I normally have pristine skin, but a small blister on the rear end today. Was lying in bed yesterday on my alternating pressure overlay. The only thing I can think of is that maybe there was something under me when I was in my chair the day before. Anyway, we change the mattress out to my low air loss mattress. That's why I keep it as a backup just in case I have a small irritation. Right now I decided to put bag balm on the blister/slightly opened area. Thanks for the advice. If it gets worse I will definitely look at the bandages. Re: [QUAD-L] we made it!
I'm in the Los Angeles area and it's 80 here today. Even though I'm spoiled with warm winters in my area I'm still like the rest of you and hate winter. But at least it's bearable here and never stops me from going out. I've been a quad for 24 years and one thing I highly recommend is moving to a warm state. Think California, Texas, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico. Being cold and miserable a few months out of the year is no way to live. I looked into a few financial areas of each of these states for a quadriplegic and found California offers the most benefits. If your unemployed and on Social Security you get Higher Social Security and SSI payment than most states. Medicare and Medical pays for all Hospital, Meds, Supplies, and Wheelchairs. Free In Home Supportive Services for caregiver. Lastly Section 8 housing. So come to California all of my fellow quad's. The door is open and it's warm outside...lol From: "linda...@comcast.net" To: RONALD L PRACHT Cc: quad-list Sent: Sunday, March 8, 2015 2:54 PM Subject: Re: [QUAD-L] we made it! Yes hooray! I have found that calmoseptine works really well. You can get it at a drug store or order it from Medical Express Supply. I keep it on hand & use it on the smallest blemish or blister. It's in a bad place. It appears to be about 0.5 cm x 0.25 cm. Does anyone have any idea how I can heal this without breaking the blister open? I have bagbalm I'm available as well as the healing honey. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't want to have to go to the wound doctor, because this right now is very small and I'm afraid it will get worse if I get in the chair. Quadius

Yes, isn't it great to get through the winter no it's ending? I love the time change to that helps a lot.
