Re: [QUAD-L] Question for everyone! Update on Nancy

2016-05-06 Thread Lori Michaelson
Hey Ron - they refuse to give me a round of antibiotics until another urine
specimen is done. People are just not doing their job and/or getting the
runaround. When you become a seasoned quad for 36 1/2 years... you get to
know things as you yourself know.

I would go to my "new" primary care physician or call her but she does not
know me very well at all since I just saw her once, she is 45 minutes away
and I told her what I did see her that the only problems I have are
secondary SCI issues and that is what I contact my urologist so I can see
her/hear her doing just that. Now, of course, it is a weekend. And I never
foresaw any of this coming.

[QUAD-L] Getting urine specimen C results and then beginning to have real pain

2016-05-06 Thread Lori Michaelson
Yep I began taking Pyridium yesterday which makes your urine orange
which I don't like but if the pain is worse... who cares. That along with
ibuprofen every six hours is barely covering the pain.

I finally heard back from the doctor's OFFICE and they either wanted me to
go to the emergency room or to get another catheter change [that I just
changed on schedule this past Tuesday] and a new urine specimen since the
other one is 3 1/2 weeks old which is NOT MY FAULT!

I do not have a fever so what is the year are going to do? Rhetorical
question of course. I told the person who was calling me (who acted so
laissez-faire about the whole situation) that I have called every week
trying to get the results and everything has been put upon ME. She didn't
care because she was just getting orders from the doctor on call while my
urologist is on vacation. See below.

Get this as far as "Lori's timing" - MY urologist is on vacation which be
gone an entire week... all of next week. When I really need her because she
has known me for 10 years. This always happens to me... whenever I really
really really need my primary care physician or a specialist... they are
always out for the day or on vacation or you name it. So many people can
vouch for that.

In the mean time I am in extreme pain but they will not give me an
antibiotic until they get the results from the new urine specimen which
takes time for the nurse to come out and get it, take it to the lab and
wait at least 3 business days to get the results. Look what just happened.
We set in a urine specimen and it took everyone to get 3 1/2 weeks for the
results. I could be dead by now.

2016-05-06 Thread RONALD L PRACHT
Its really troubling that a doctor cant properly organize getting a urine
specimen back in a timely manner. I would feel like they were giving me the run
around or not taking me seriously. Think about it...if a young mother
brought her little daughter in to get a specimen checkeddo you think
they would run her around? I would just go in and ask the doc to give me around
of antibiotics then you could doctor yourself when need me.

Re: [QUAD-L] One Comment and Two Questions Needing Advice On

2016-05-06 Thread wheelchair
Hi Carol. Have you considered your State's Assistive Techology
Department? There are cool vest for Quads that will keep you cool during
those hot
humid days.

Best Wishes

First, thanks to all of you. I have learned so much I didn't know since
joining the loop.
Second, both my husband and myself have medical conditions. We are on
prescription medications. In the job he has just started he has to drive
himself all over the state unlike his previous job where there was always an
investigator with him. Also, we aren't getting any younger. We know it is
possible that a situation might arise for either one of us where we have to
call
for an ambulance but might not be able to communicate what is the
immediate concern, our medical histories, and what prescription drugs we are
on. I
know there are companies in the US that make a variety of products for this
purpose. I have seen an ad for Road ID. We tried medic alert bracelets for
just basic information, but they just don't hold up over time (but for
that matter, neither have we:-)). I am looking for recommendations of
products/services in the US for something we can carry with us to communicate
necessary information.
Third, before my injury, I sweated like a pig. Since the injury unless I'm
about to go into autonomic dysreflexia, I don't sweat. I live in a hot,
humid Southern state in the US. I am looking for recommendations on gear I can
buy to keep me cool. I have a baseball cap that holds water in it, but
it's not enough. Please advise.
Thanks.
Carolyn
