Just got back from my PCP about sediment in urine. Yesterday there was so
much that irrigation wasn't moving anything.

Did ask about coffee causing sediment. He said no way. Lemon tho will
change your body's ph level & will definitely cause sediment.

As long as coffee is still on the menu I will be fine. LOL!

I used to drink lots of water mixed with lemon juice, and I used to have
quite a bit of sediment.

Someone on this forum said that lemon juice could cause sediment. I stopped
drinking lemon juice, and the amount of sediment dramatically decreased.

attendants and sometimes now it lasts up to three hours now! My procedure is as
follows:

(Metamucil every morning/night, stool softner morning/night,
4 senekot evening before program

1. Magic Bullet in bed and stretch/wait 10 min.

2. Hot Water to drink

3. transfer to shower chair over commode

4. attendant dig-stim. every 5 min till done (sometimes 3
hours)

5. Few accidents, but she's rippin me up!

What can I do to speed up process? Changes I can make?
Things to try? Any suggestions would help tremendously

RE: [QUAD-L] Work

2006-03-20 Thread Mr LESTER SMITH

Hello all,

I just wanted to share my work experience.
I received a BS in MIS in May of 2000. I had a job for a few months then I got
laid off.  I had no luck finding a job for a very long time.  Then I got
work that bender consulting got a contract with a federal organization to find
jobs for disabled persons.  I went the process of getting into benders system;
they asked if I would like to apply for a federal position, I said you bet. I applied
and about a week or two later I got a call from the department of defense (DOD)
they liked my resume and wanted to start the process to hire.  There was a
lot I had to do to get my job, fill out a long form, interview, and polygraph etc…
after I got my top secret clearance I got a very good paid job.  They have
gone out of their way to make sure everything is nice for me.  So if you
want a great job, great pay and great benefits go to www.benderconsult.com and register,
say Lester sent you.

Dillon...

I have worked for
the federal government for almost 15 years as an Information Technology
Specialist.  Duties have included database application development, IT
security, web page development, and software support.  I have done IT
project management for the last year or so.

I primarily use
voice recognition software to operate my computers, though occasionally use a
mouthstick when I am in my chair.  Unfortunately, like you, I have
periodic bouts with skin breakdown that keeps me out of the chair for 1-2 weeks
at a time.  Fortunately, I am able to work at home while in bed thanks to
the voice recognition software and the ability to connect to my office network
via the Internet.  I attend work meetings via teleconference when working
at home.  Work documents are easily exchanged via email attachment or
fax.  My boss and upper management are very supportive of this arrangement
when needed.  I have proven to them that I am just as effective and
productive working at home as I am in the office, although I prefer to work in
the office so I can more directly interact with my peers.

I echo Lori's
comments regarding focusing on your skills, accomplishments and what value
you have to offer when seeking employment.  Do not mention your disability
if it has no relevance to the job for which you are applying.  The
prospective employer will learn of your disability when you are interviewed,
and this is when you briefly explain that it is manageable and address any
accommodations needed to perform the work.

I made it very
clear when interviewed for my current position that I did not want any favors
or special treatment so I would be able to interact and compete with my peers
on an even level if hired.  I did get hired in part as the result of an
affirmative employment plan, but I have been promoted and/or received an
outstanding performance appraisal every year since hired.

I strongly suggest
offering or requesting to work as an intern for your prospective employer if
they will not hire you outright.  This will give you an opportunity to
demonstrate your ability to do the work and fit into the organization.  I
worked as an intern full time without pay for four months before being
hired.  I know it played a big part in the decision to hire me.

Not knowing your
skill sets, I cannot offer specific recommendations for types of employment,
but given your periodic skin issues, a job that can be performed on the
computer and/or telephone, especially at home if needed, would be ideal.
Employers are becoming less concerned with how and where you work as long as
you can meet their work objectives.  Marketable skills, enthusiasm and a
"can do" spirit will overcome many attitudinal barriers held by
prospective employers.

There is some good
information and advice on employment of people with disabilities at the
following web site:

http://www.disabilityinfo.gov/digov-public/public/DisplayPage.do?parentFolderId=9

Good luck in your
quest for employment!

Common sense here but I've had 3 full-sized vans with 3
different lifts.  With the full I liked the indoor maneuvering space and
easier to travel with that space.  I DON'T miss the bulk of it, the
gas hogs they are or the longer wait on the lift unfolding, loading,
  refolding ESPECIALLY in freezing weather.

I now have a Braun Entervan (minivan) and love to just
zoom up the ramp ... little wait.  Better gas mileage.  And not so
bulky to drive around in.  The lowered floors make a bumpier ride
(bothers my back) but if it's not lowered I can't see out.

So I have no idea which choice to make next.  I WANT
to put a ball on the back to pull a small U-haul and I'd like the bigger
indoor space but, then again I love the mini-van ramps.
  *sigh*  Choices, decisions, ugh!

I have had both mini-van and full sized
van.  The mini-van was a piece of crap. I had to get a new fuel pump every
year, it was so low you rip the under carriage going over speed bumps. One time
the oil filter got ripped over going over a bump.  It was very tight inside
the mini-van. I also had problems with getting repairs do on it. So no matter
which type make they can be serviced in the town you live.  So I guess the
full-size van would be my pick no matter what.

I don't know
how much I'll be around to do that in the next few days as I've got to have a
operation this Thursday (2 days time).  Basically I had a bit of a
accident and managed to damage a couple of my teeth.  At the moment they
are planning to remove one of my wisdom teeth which thankfully got most of the
damage to it, mend the gum properly around it plus mend the tooth next to
it.  Finger's crossed it's going to be a day surgery thing, but it depends
weather the specialist finds that he needs to do more work as when he made the
decision to operate it was still all pretty swollen, so fingers crossed.

Anyway like I

Take care,

July 10th was my 39th post SCI.

Looking back in many ways my accident was a blessing, some ways a curse.

Life is what you make it and I'm enjoying it! Three stepchildren, 8
grandchildren,
volunteering with the local historical society, chair of the building
committee at church, helpful in other organizations that help the disabled,
get my
name in the paper every few months because I am doing something crazy like a

walkathon for wheelchairs to rise money for a church elevator or some

thing like that.

The next project is to get a monthly church service in our community for the

Later dudes,

Gotta roll.
