do you have to go to their location?

Re: [QUAD-L] BONE DENISITY

2023-12-14 Thread Noel
I was diagnosed with osteoporosis about 10 years ago, high risk of
fracture. I've been taking Fosamax ever since. I had another bone density
test a couple of months ago, to see if the Fosamax was working. She didn't
give me the results of the latest bone density test, just tell me to keep
taking the Fosamax.

When I was first diagnosed, I started using an RT300 FES bike after reading
that it had strengthened bones on many people that have used one (notably
Christopher Reeve). Used it for a couple of years, puts a lot of pressure
on the bones. But, after a couple of years, I developed severe pain in my
knees and had to stop. I've tried everything for the pain in my knees,
prescription and nonprescription, nothing seems to help.

Re: [QUAD-L] EASY TO TRANSFER TO SHOWER CHAIR

the height of the headrest from the seat is about 30 inches at maximum. It
looks like it can come down about a foot to the top of the backrest. From
the seat to the top of the backrest is about 20 inches. Not real precise,
the only person I could get to take measurements isn't the greatest with
the tape measure.

Re: [QUAD-L] Bed/Mattress Question

2021-03-21 Thread Noel
I've been sleeping on a purple mattress for about 5 years, it is
surprisingly firm. I got it because of pain from a bulging disc in my
lower back. Despite It's firmness, I haven't had any problems with
skin breakdown. Unfortunately it hasn't helped any with lower back
pain. At the time, it was the only firmness available, but they now
have other options available that look softer.

Hello Randy, I have a Toshiba fire TV that I control with Alexa

anything streaming. I also use a Broadlink RM pro in combination with
the echo to change channels on dish network. The Broadlink RM pro took
a while to figure out, but once past the initial set up and
frustration, it's pretty useful.

Re: [QUAD-L] Wondering

2019-09-23 Thread Noel
Television, controlled with Amazon echo in combination with a Broad link RM Pro.
Telephone, can place calls with Amazon echo. Receive calls with a cell
phone that has speech recognition to answer and place calls.
Window unit, I use Broadlink for that as well, but I have to press a
button on my cell phone. When I set it up, I didn't have the remote
anymore, so I couldn't program the RF. Not positive, but it may be
possible if you have a remote that works with your window unit, record
the RF for the air conditioner and label it as a fan. For some reason
Broadlink won't let you set up the app for voice access to control an
air-conditioner. I control a fan with Amazon echo along with the
Broadlink.

Re: [QUAD-L] What is the best marijuana to help calm spasms at night?

2019-09-01 Thread Noel
A few years ago I decided to try marijuana for pain. Went to a doctor
to have it prescribed, applied to the state of New Mexico for a
medical marijuana card, tried a dozen different strains. Some high in
THC, others with very little. All of them helped with insomnia, but
none of them did anything for pain. As for spasms, the effect I felt
was much stronger than any of the prescription medications I've tried,
baclofen and Valium. It wasn't something I could take in the morning
and still function in any way. If you do decide to give it a try,
strongly suggest a small dose at first. I used a battery-powered
vaporizer.

Re: [QUAD-L] TV control

I control my television by voice using an Amazon fire TV cube in
combination with a Broadlink RM Pro. With the fire TV cube, I can turn
the TV on and off, increase and decrease the volume, and change
inputs. I can control my satellite box (dish network) using the fire
TV cube as well. To change the channel on the television for over the
air channels, I had to get the Broadlink RM Pro. My TV isn't a smart
TV, so I use the fire TV cube for all the streaming services. Using
the Broadlink RM Pro required it learning all of the remote control's
infrared buttons one at a time. Was fairly simple, just a little
time-consuming. The fire TV cube already knew the codes it needed.

Don't know if you're interested in a used phone, but I purchased my
smart phone from https://www.upwardmobile.com/

Looks like the newest iPhone they have is the I6

I went with a TracFone (A Samsung Galaxy S5) that uses Verizon towers
because it has the best coverage where I live. They do have a
selection of iPhones from various carriers including TracFone that use
either AT or Verizon towers. Their technical support was pretty good
in my case. They should be able to help you with getting the correct

Re: [QUAD-L] Phone holders

2018-10-04 Thread Noel
Lori, that is true, it would ( and did initially) get in the way of going
under my computer desk. I had to rearrange it so that I go underneath at an
angle and the corner of the desk is pointing straight at my stomach and the
phone holder attached to the armrest fits just to the side of the desk. I
place my trackball on the corner so that it is above my lap. Situated this
way, it's hard to reach my keyboard, so I use Naturally Speaking and a
keyboard app on my tablet. The same app also let's me control the mouse, it
turns the tablet into a touchpad. But, it's still easier to use the
trackball. You're right, I do have to have it moved out of the way a couple
times a day, it gets in the way eating for instance. Also going through
some of the doorways in the house I live in. I'm curious if there's a cell
phone holder available that can be easily swung out of the way.

2018-10-04 Thread Noel
I also use TracFone, a Samsung that I can answer calls by voice and
place calls by pressing one button followed by giving it a voice
command.

Recently purchased another RAM x-grip that will hold a Samsung tablet.
It's nice because I can also use it to control many things in my home
that use infrared remotes (TV, satellite, a fan). I also use it to
control my desktop computer, can move the mouse around use it as a
keyboard.

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but if it's the dictation box,
my version of NaturallySpeaking has a checkbox in the bottom left
corner labeled "Use automatic dictation box for this application." It
usually comes up if NaturallySpeaking isn't compatible with the
program you're trying to type into (Outlook in your case). You can
uncheck the automatic dictation box, but naturally speaking might not
work quite as well.

[QUAD-L] Hands-free television control

2018-07-24 Thread Noel
This was talked about while ago, but I purchased the fire TV cube on
Amazon prime day to control my television by voice. Also purchased a
broadlink RM Pro (because it was much cheaper than the Logitech
Harmony hub). The 2 working together are working pretty good at
letting me control my TV, and dish network completely by voice. So far
the only big problem I have is adjusting the volume. For some reason,
asking it to increase the volume increases the volume from 5 to over
50, even though it is set to increase in increments of 1. By chance if
anybody has the problem with volume and has a solution, I'd appreciate
letting me know.
If you don't use over the air antenna on your television, the
broadlink RM Pro isn't necessary.

Yes, I have that problem as well. I also put on gloves, it doesn't
warm them up, but at least I don't feel the ice cold skin if I touch
my face. Same problem with my feet, put on heavy socks, sit by the
fireplace. It doesn't necessarily have to be cold in my house at the

It might be just the type of catheter used, but the balloon can lose

material, every once in a while have trouble getting it to insert and
have to use a catheter with a stiffer tip called a coude. I'm in quite
a bit of pain until I can switch back to the Duette. Haven't had much

[QUAD-L] Re: [QUAD-L] Dictation box copying everything in Dragon NaturallySpeaking… Please, how to make it stop

2017-11-21 Thread Noel
Does version 12.5 use the dictation box? If so, unfortunately that's the
way it works. When you transfer the text from the dictation box, it pastes
it when you click the transfer button. I'm using version 14, with it you
can choose not to use the dictation box, but you would have to experiment.

Re: [QUAD-L] Sennheiser PC 31-11

2017-11-07 Thread Noel
I don't know if this is an option, but when I used to be alone all day,
instead of placing the microphone on my head, I would hook it over the back
of my bed, or whatever chair (usually a recliner) I would be sitting in all
day. I was somehow able to place the boom of the microphone a couple of
inches from my cheek. I never had to use the speaker on the headset,
luckily the computer speakers always seemed to work just as well.

Now I use a desktop microphone that sits on a small table.
NaturallySpeaking isn't quite as accurate, and it picks up more background
noise.

[QUAD-L] Re: [QUAD-L] Problems with Dragon NaturallySpeaking 13… I just had to reinstall 12.5

2017-11-02 Thread Noel
Has anybody tried knowbrainer's software? Here's a page that says persons
with a disability can get a free copy, wonder if it's too good to be true,
usually somewhat expensive.
