I have a similar problem with clearance. I often put to bed down as far as
it can go and I still scrape the bed going in. Then again, I am around
6'2", although some say around 6'3".

Got my first one about a week ago.  I know the sling I got with it isn't going
to work because I'd have to sit on it while in my chair.  Before buying a sling
that I think will work I decided to give it a try.  When I'm in the sling, I
can't turn facing the hydraulic cylinder (with my chair behind me) without my
knees and feet hitting the cylinder.  I have pretty long legs.  I'm wondering
if they come with a longer top arm?  Does anybody else have this problem?

I just turned slightly to the side so that I don't hit the tubing. I have
6'3" and I'm able to do it.

Not sure if hydraulic fluid comes in different weights like motor oil, but
it's available at most hardware stores. Getting it in the cylinder is
another thing.

Hydraulic cylinders can be bought online, picking the right one might be
tricky. Looking at daltonhydraulic.com, they all look like the kind that
connect to an input and output line.

My brother just replaced all the seals on 4 hydraulic cylinders on my
father's tractor, luckily I found the seal kits on ebay. He had never done
it before, turned out to be pretty easy with the right tools.

A Hoyer lift uses a hydraulic cylinder to lift the main arm bar.  Over
many seasons of use, the seal, dries out and starts to fail by not lifting as
high as it once did.  Sometimes the cylinder can be rebuilt by a speciality
company.  Most times its just easier to replace it.

Best Wishes

[QUAD-L] Hoyer lifts w/ butt clearance

2013-08-22 Thread Gmail
Hi All,
Who all use's a hoyer type lift to transfer into bed? I do. I'm having a
little trouble with getting it high enough for my butt to clear the mattress
... only by about 1 1/2" I'm assuming they make them so my butt could clear
easily? I bought a brand new smaller sling and that is helping me get higher
but not quite enough.

Hoyer is a brand name.  Use patient lifter.  Sure hands makes one
I want...a tad expensive but I'm attempting to see if VR willl kick
in.

Hi Bobbie, I have a Guldmann Pontus 10'x10' freestanding lift.
There's enough room for my twin bed, wheelchair and my Jacuzzi tub (30"x72" with
9 adjustable jets... ($1,000 of the best dollars I ever invested and was well
worth saving up for) .add some bubbles and scents to the 106 degree
temps and aa!! The jets on my feet neck and shoulders and hot
water feel great every morning. The state funded all but the tub.

I lift out of my chair and swing either into bed, my showerchair or my
hot tub or visa-versa. The sling is taken off after im done transferring. I
swear, this lift being so versatile and being able to set me in and out of the
jetted tub every morning has helped me sooo much. No more lifting, scooting
ect.

I have had my lift for 4 years with zero troubles. I can even take
the lift apart easily and move it to any room that's 10'x10'. I then run a hose
from the shower head (with a quick disconnect) to fill the tub, then bilge it
back into the shower drain when I get done with the jetted hot tub experience.
Great if you move to a home without an accessible bathroom. You just need enough
hose to reach the shower.

These guys also have hoyer type lifts as well.

Hope the link helps, Good luck
Bob

Have you also consider a Shara Lift by Century Arjo. Costs more but well
worth the investment.
