I really have to ask this. Is speed really a selling point for electric
wheelchairs? I'm always looking for comfort and durability, ease of service.
When a tech starts talking speed, I start wondering if the leg risers are going
to fall off.John s.

If you're using a magitex it will dampen the amount of speed. My chair can
usually do about 7 miles an hour, but I'm only able to do 5.8 with my magitex

Larry my 1st chair was also like the one you described but I got mine in 1976
It came in one size fits all, one color (maybe 2)
With a sling seat and back.
Made a high pitch sound whenever I was in motion and would interfere with radio
and TV signals.
Very UGLY! But got me where I wanted to go. Before that I had to push.

I have a Permobil M300, the fastest I can get it to go is 5.5 mph. I
tried it out on the flight deck of the USS midway while on vacation.
Which is fine with me, the terrain I have to go over outside of my
home is usually pretty rough. The only problems I've had is one of
the armrests falling apart, but I think it is normal wear and tear.

The only issue regarding new motors is replacing the control module too.
But that is not a major issue if insurance is paying for the work and
parts. The parts are usually in stock and ship in 14 days. Labor is about
2-2-1/2 hours max.
