Another good quad movie "The Wings of Eagles" (1957, b&w) starring John Wayne.
The life story of pioneer Navy aviator and Hollywood screenwriter Frank W.
“Spig” Wead. Memorable line, "That's me: 'half man, half worm, half wit.'"

Yes, "The Other Side of the Mountain" movies got more into specifics AND
about "relationships/marriage" after SCI.

Last time I looked Jill Kinmont up (on the net somewhere) she is still alive
but around 71 or so. Residing in CA. Us female quads are few & far between
compared to male quads. So that (the movies and recognitition of her) is
cool.

Joni Erickson (sp?) Tada is still alive too but up there in age (and still
teaching school /i think) and is also in CA.

Hi Steve, Jim, Dan and anyone else who recommended movies,

Thank you for your recommendation and remembrance.
Dana

Other good ones for Spinal Chord Injuries (not quads, but paras, though they
deal with familiar issues of denial/acceptance):
- Passion Fish
- The Waterdance
- Coming Home (Vietnam vet)
- Born on the Fourth of July (also Vietnam vet)

The Spanish movie 'The Sea Within' is Quad-specific and deals with
right-to-die, based on a true story. Poignant, but I thought kind of a downer.

I like "The Bone Collector" with Denzel Washington and Queen Latifa as his
PCA, despite its ridiculously innaccurate portrayal of life as a quad (he's
very dextrous with a mouse, but never leaves his bed).

Don't like to reveal surprise endings, but "Million Dollar Baby" bugged me.

I recommend
"The Diving Bell and the Butterfly"

In 1995, author and Elle magazine editor Jean-Dominique Bauby suffered a
stroke that put him in a coma; he awakened mute and completely paralyzed

I saw it in the theater and it was great.  I just happened in the watching some
awards in Britain and it was getting an award.  I checked the theaters and it
was released in a theater that has some movies not shown at AMC.  I remember a
movie about another person that was trying to get the right to end his life in
another country, although I don't remember the name, which I saw in a theater.
We have three of them like that in our area. I wish I could remember the name.
I remember saving the information on my favorites, but I cannot find.  I think
it was true.  Does anybody remember a film like that?
