Yes, I would think $.25 in the last two weeks would constitute a gas going up in price. John, what you're stating here is circular logic. They keep telling you it's the devaluation of the dollar that's causing the gas to rise and while that is partially true, it is not the entire story. Like someone else mentioned, there is increased demand in China and India, not to mention Russia and the other Eastern European countries. The oil companies in the United States have not invested in new refineries since the 70s, despite the record-breaking profits. Additionally the oil companies seem to be free to raise the price just based on the current cost of oil per a what many people don't know is it usually takes two to three months for the price of oil to affect the actual price of gas. This is nothing more than gouging. If our government wasn't so keen on providing corporate welfare and protection to these oil companies, we wouldn't have the problems we currently do. However you look at it, we don't have it as bad as Canada and Europe. I believe I saw Germany was paying roughly six dollars a gallon the other day. I just wanna say this to get it out of the way. The folks on the news and our fearless leader don't seem to understand that America has been twisted into something so it is more democracy-like, but it is not and was never meant to be a democracy. It is a representative republic. Democracies are weak and pathetic forms of government. It was intended that the people elect their representative and that person, in turn, choose an elector to represent us in the electoral college. The reason for this is simple, the entire nation shouldn't be ruled by decisions made by a few large states. Representatives at state levels would elect Senators. There would be no such thing as lifetime representatives in any government positions except judges and any other positions that are deemed to important to be politicized. (HAH!) The place where individuals were suppose to be able to effect politics was in local party meetings. (Again HAH!) Our forefathers were hopelessly trusting souls. What we have today is a bastardized system that makes everything America ever stood for look like an item on the auction block. We have become victims of our own success and poor judgment. Ethanol fuel,, a brilliant idea, but a politician said it must be made from corn. We are seeing the problem with that idea. Only a politician would think fuel should be drinkable. (ethanol can be made from garbage but America makes it from the one ingredient that is also the main source of starch for a third of the worlds population..how effing arrogant can we get?) While I agree with you on the ethanol, I disagree with some of what you said about the democracy. You are correct that the founding fathers set up our system to be a representative republic, but that was long before the electorate was comprised of mostly literate individuals. The electoral College was set up to avoid giving too much power to a few states, but right now it effectively does that anyway. All you have to do is look at how some past presidential campaigns have specifically targeted only 10 or 11 critical states in order to get elected. I believe, but am not positive, that JFK follow this principle. I thought the 2000 election was a travesty, but I really couldn't complain about 2004. The majority of the people spoke and that's what we've had to live with. No, it's not been fun, but that's what 51% of our people wanted. Just my opinion; I could be wrong. Miami reported 31,620 voters. Inexplicably, nearly 19,000 new ballots were added after all precincts reported, boosting Bush’s vote to 33,039 (65.77%) to Kerry’s 17,039 (33.92%). CASE is investigating why the percentage of the vote stayed exactly the same to three one-hundredths of a percentage point after nearly 19,000 new ballots were added. CASE members speculate that it’s either a long-shot coincidence with the last three digits remaining the same, or that someone had pre-set a database and programmed a voting machine to cough up a pre-set percentage of votes. Miami County uses an easily hackable optical scanner with the central counter provided by the Republican-linked vendor ESS. * In Warren County, administrators and election officials locked down the county administrative building and prohibited all independent election observers from watching the vote count. County officials cited “homeland security,” according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. WCPO-TV Channel 9 News Director Bob Morford told the Enquirer that he had “never seen anything like it.” Morford asserted that throwing the media and independent observers out of the centralized counting area under the guise of “homeland security” was a “red herring.” He said, “That’s something to put up when you don’t know what else to put up to keep us out.” In Warren County, Bush picked up an additional 12,000 votes over his 2000 election total. * In Franklin County, where Franklin County Board of Elections Director Matt Damschroder is also the former Executive Director of the county’s Republican Party, the county Board of Elections building looked like a bunker. Scores of city buses blocked parking spaces on the street outside, numerous concrete barricades surrounded the parking lot, and a metal detector was stationed at the only entrance. A phalanx of armed deputy sheriffs swarmed the only site where provisional voters could cast a guaranteed ballot. The Columbus Dispatch confirmed an Election Day Free Press story that far fewer voting machines were present in predominantly black Democratic inner-city voting wards than in the recent primary election and the 2000 presidential election, with their lighter turnouts. The reduced number of machines caused voters to wait up to seven hours and wait an average of approximately three hours. One Republican Central Committee member told the Free Press that Damschroder held back as many as 200 machines and dispersed many of the other machines to affluent suburbs in Franklin County. Have you watched the news? It is. Sams, Cosco, etc are limiting how much rice you can buy b/c of food shortages resulting from rising food costs. Ethanol is making corn, flour, wheat, rice, etc more expensive and then it transfers over to dairy and meats because those animals eat feed. Mark, Yes, trust is a big part of it but I believe in even bigger part of why people are so disillusioned with presidencies (regardless of party) is because campaigns always have promises. Most people don't seem to understand, or remember, that a campaign promise is really just a promise to TRY. In order to get anything done, and the president needs an agreeable majority of the House of Representatives, Senate, and also, often times in the end, an agreeable majority of the Courts. Without all that, Presidents with even all the absolute best ideas for everyone, can do absolutely nothing but sit as figureheads. Have fun this election season! Exactly WHAT money gets spent on isn't nearly as important as the fact that it gets spent on SOMETHING.?? The flow of money is what keeps our economy going.? The people give it to the candidates who skim a little that they can toss around, then it goes to movie makers to make those foolish 'promise-all' adds, and to TV stations, who pay employees, who buy groceries, who pay farmers, who buy tractors the employees of which buy groceries and gas.. on and on.? Even saving your money in a bank keeps it in circulation so someone else can borrow it and keep it moving.? We reward people for borrowing here by giving them write offs? and punish them for saving by way of taxes.? By giving money to foreign countries, the circulation for OUR country slows down a bit - unless of course they buy our products.? A slow economy is the true villain. Hey Eric- My cousin Darren has a couple of tattoo studios here in Iowa. A few years ago VH1 Motley Crue had a tatt contest and show called Tattoo You.
