Re: [QUAD-L] CRAZY SPASMS

2008-01-18 Thread Quadius
Not sure who initiated this, but I used to have terrible leg spasms. Range
of motion does help me, but I discovered that a large part of my spasms are
due to the tightening of my Achilles tendons.

It might benefit you to have someone slowly stretch your foot toward your
chest. Tell them to be careful not to do it in a jerky manner, but to
slowly apply pressure to the base of your foot for about 30 seconds to one
minute. I try to have this done two times a day and it really does help
minimize my leg spasms.

Of course, I have terrible body spasms (that's what I used to use the label
spastic whenever I was on the Internet) which can only be controlled by
quite a bit of medication. By stretching the Achilles I have been able to
minimize some of the medication, but it is a must for me.

Hope this helps some.

A few well placed pillows to keep them from self injury. A banana helps some
people and others swear by daily massage and range of motion. Unfortunately,
Paul, I think most of us C-5's battle leg spasms. The joints degenerate in
an arthritic manner and the muscles atrophy as do the nerves and arteries
and veins. Stress and pain in my leg bones contribute to my spasms. You have
to always watch out for collisions with your legs and feet because your
bones are also getting softer.

All my best wishes,
john

Have you ever tried Botox injections? I've been doing this for 10 years now.
My legs go nuts when the toxin wears off.

It varies. Some like to cuddle with it between their ankles up their knees.
With a hug pillow, you can angle it almost any way YOU want it placed.

I agree. Hug pillows often work well when place properly and are not
overfilled with stuffing. You see them at most of the major hotels now. They
can
be 4 + feet long.
