Interesting. Does the Pro AV have the PDS connector behind the NuBus
slot, specifically designed for the AV Quadras?

I have similar problems with mine. I think it may be later versions of
Quicktime but It's a long time since I set mine up. I'd have to go to
the trouble of setting up 7.1 with Quicktime 1.6.1 and the 088 enabler
to test it and frankly I can't be bothered :D.

I've been looking for that as well. Definitely something nice to have

Well, that's a hell of a lot faster than 7.1 on my Mac IIci. I can see
why you think 7.5 is such a slow loader, while on my system there isn't
near as much difference.

I don't take that long, and I mount remote volumes and printers from my
UNIX server.

Re: Using an *40 AV to edit VHS video

2003-01-02 Thread Rob
Mine is a SpigotPro AV, I'm looking at the original box right now... The
SpigotPower AV's were the later ones sold for the PowerMacs. The only
difference between the two, AFAIK, is the little ribbon cable required on
the PMacs.

My setup will record 640x480 NTSC at 30fps, but I just have problems always
getting output from Spigot all the time. I have a fairly fast AV drive on
the stock controller. The output problems seem to be related to what apps I
use, but I'll have to play with it some more to know for sure.

I've also got a Nubus Video Spigot, but I've never taken the time to get it
going... It was going to go into a IIci or a Quadra 650 someday, time
permitting.

Re: Using an *40 AV to edit VHS video

2003-01-02 Thread Michael Emery
Rob <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:

I've got a SpigotProAV. This indeed works with the older
Quicktime versions available, but the later versions
(5-6?) complain about the lack of a CODEC to view the
file. On a machine with QT4 (I think), it wouldn't show
the video, but the audio was intact...

I have never even tried QT5 or 6 with the SPRO. There might just be some
breakage between those two latest versions and the hardware/software
designed for QT2, my guess.

Are you using Spigot AV Extension v1.1? That's what you need.

I use Fusion Recorder now. It seems to be OK, I was just
wondering if there was something else available.

Radius also made an app called VideoFusion for sale. It is one of many
apps that can possible record video. I happen to have several potential
apps archived, but it's not likely that they'll ever see any use by me.

I was quite happy to continue running OS 8.1 on this
machine, but I have thought recently that running 7.5 or
7.6 might be a little better from a performance
standpoint.

One would think so. But what I've seen is that 7.5.3 erupts in stalls
while using some of this capture software. 8.1 is much more stable and
user-friendly, I've found. Yet, by going with 8.1, I can't use some of
the older software that sorta runs in 7.5.x and breaks in 8.1. :-(

I should try 7.1 someday.

I have all three known versions of the Spigot PAV (It's Power AV not
Pro AV - I have one in my 840av that was new boxed :P ) extension. The
software is pretty minimal there is a SpigotPAV extension (about 125k)
and a player (which you don't need).
What you do need if you seriously want to record big video (like full
screen PAL/NTSC at 30fps) is a very fast hard disk and controller card.
I have Jackhammer with a 9GB U160 (i know, i know, but it was all I
could get my paws on and there it will stay until I get a U3W card for
Mac OS X) with and it's not fast enough to record 640x480 (PAL) but it
will amply cope with 320x240 (1/2 PAL) straight from my VCR.

I thought for the longest time it was a dud card until I figured out
you must have a monitor attached to the on-board video connector -
DUHH!!!

Hi,

Thanks Pickle and Glove ;-)!

It seems I fooled myself ;-(

I had also upgraded to MacOS 8.1 from 8.0 and I was using
the "About this Mac" Menu item instead of the Apple investigator (sorry
can't remember the name..) under 8.0 it said PowerPC or nothing
umder 8.1 it doesn't say PowerPC...

So, what is the last release to support PDSified PowerPCs on Quadra's
8.5?

So, It works!!! Thanks!

Frank

PS. Everybody probably knows about this site:

My son wanted some of the same software he uses at school and I found it
there.
