I didn't use a card Dwight, but rather a WAP, one of these:

http://www.softwareandstuff.com/NET10253.html

to be exact. You can set this WAP up to hook directly to the computer or to a
HUB as I did. Works very well that way.

I don't think anyone ever developed a wireless nubus card, merely
because wifi has only come en vogue in the last couple of years and
nubus has been obsolete since 1994 or so... but I could be wrong.

I understand what you mean, but I've heard bad things about gmail. I think I
found a good one if LEM list will accept it. It's called SAFe-mail.net. They
allow POP access for free and it seems to work pretty good so far. It is a
little on the slow side when receiving email, but sending is quick. Will take
some further testing before I'm sure about it.

Thanks Bill, but Outlook Express with MSIE 4.01 worked fine with my Adelphia
account to send and receive email via my pop server. Now there's a thought,
are there any webmail services that allow you to send and receive via a pop
mail client? Doesn't it seem a bit strange that the only way I can subscribe
to this list is via a webmail (HTML) service?

2004-11-13 Thread Maniac Mac
It looks like it works from the Quadra as I'm able to send and recieve via this
webmail site, but the down side is it's very slow.
Webmail is not known for it's speed as it is, but it's at least doable on a
fast connection and machine. The pop mail on this Quadra
is fast enough so hopefully I can get subscribed that way and things will be
fine. Time to go back downstairs, it's gonna be a cold
one here tonight!

Yep, it does indeed run pretty good. I was able to do some testing this
afternoon and managed to check out a total of 4 different browsers including
Cyberdog 2.0, Netscape Navigator 4.07, iCab pre 2.98 and MS Internet Explorer
4.01. Of course the testing was not very extensive as it is kind of cold
upstairs when sitting for long periods of time, but I did manage to determine
that MSIE 4.01 performed the best overall. Not only was it quicker than the
rest most of the time, it also loaded the most sites of any of those tested.
It was the only one to load my personal excite page at all even though it
eventually locked up the system from a lack of memory. The main thing I
discovered is that I need to find a less resource hungry site if I want to use
webmail on the old Quadra!
