You probably need to 'flatten' the quicktime files before moving them to the PC. If you check file sizes, the PC will probably be a lot less than the Mac. This is because Mac formatted quicktimes have a bunch of information in the resource fork of the file, which the PC can't read. Open the file in the quicktime player, and save it out as a flattened file. This puts all the data in the data fork, where the PC can read it. = - Ed Murphy [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? If it could only do 16bit at 1600x1200, that would take just under 4mb. The phrase "1600x1200 up to 24 bit" should be taken as two separate statements; it can do 1600x1200, it can do up to 24 bit. I've tried to "Save-As" the spreadsheet in different First off, I assume that this version of excel does not have trouble with other spreadsheets. What version of Excel was the spreadsheet originally saved in? If it was a more recent version that the one you are running, it may simply be that your Excel is choking newer stuff that it does not understand. As far as your version is concerned, it is trying to understand a spreadsheet from the future. Try re-exporting from the PC version to Excel 4.0 format, or to some interchange format, like SYLK. That should lose any 'future' formatting. = - Ed Murphy [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! This is because native Mac file formats get corrupted on a PC because PC file systems can't hold all the information (specifically, the 'resource' fork). You will need Stuffit Expander on the Mac to 'expand' the container files into usable mac files. You can download stuffit expander on the Alladin Systems site, but of course, you'll be in the chicken and egg situation. If you end up in this problem, email me off list and I'll mail you a floppy. Quadra 950 disassembly
Hi All, I'm trying to remove a syquest 44mb drive from my Q950 and replace it with a CD-ROM drive. The problem is, I can't get the Syquest out. I've mucked with the internal hard drive before, and it has a very simple one screw assembly. It looks like the front accessible drives have a similar mount, but I can't get them out after removing the screw. Any clues? TIA Ed Murphy = ----- Ed Murphy [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: NetBSD or Linux on 68k machines...
I have a Q950 and looked at NetBSD and OpenBSD first (I run FreeBSD on my PC hardware). Unfortunately, both systems indicated that the Q950 was not 'fully' supported. So I looked at Linux. Debian has a 68K linux that supports the Q950 and most other 040 Macs. I ordered CD's from LinuxCentral. While I waited for these, I investigated A/UX, Apple's Unix for the 68K. I found the images for the install boot floppy, version 3.01 install CD and the 3.1 updated on the Archaic Apples website (cool site). I downloaded this stuff and installed it. I'm now running my Q950 with it. It does a good job of integrating the MacOS with Unix (not as good as OS X). For the Q650, there is an extra step in the install. You need a system enabler that get's copied to the install boot floppy, then onto the installed system. You can find this info and other wonder facts in the A/UX faq. That can be found, along with lots of ports and patches at: ftp://ftp.mayn.de/pub/apple/apple_unix/ Cameron Kaiser had created some easy to follow installation instructions at: http://www.floodgap.com/retrotech/os/aux/ The URL for the A/UX images on Archaic Apples is: http://archaic-apples.shauny.de/index.php The boot floppy image is a DiskCopy image. The 3.01 installer image and the 3.1 updater image are Toast images. I've read elsewhere in this comp.unix.aux newsgroup that these are compatible with other burner software that will burn raw images. Gamba keeps some good info and helpful downloads at: http://home.earthlink.net/~gamba2/ Finally, there is lots of good help on comp.unix.aux. Ed Murphy __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Got A/UX, need help
I have been able to download the A/UX 3.01 and 3.1 update images for toast from Archaic Apples. This is a cool site for anything Apple and orphaned. The URL for the A/UX images is http://archaic-apples.shauny.de/index.php?category=Macintosh&subcategory=A%2FUX. So far, I have not had success installing onto my Q950. I have used the following steps. 1. un-gzip the disk images obtained from Archaic Apples 2. Run Toast, choose Disk Image as the burn type, load the 3.01 toast image by dragging into the toast window. This is about 485 megs. 3. Burn the CD 4. copy the boot floppy image to a 1.44 floppy (Mount the floppy image with diskcopy, then copy contents to a clean floppy) 5. Insert 3.01 CD that we just made into CD-ROM drive on the Q950 (an external Apple 300 with a caddy) 6. Insert boot floppy into floppy drive 7. boot the machine (or reboot if you are in Mac OS) At this point, the following happens; 1. floppy boots into Mac OS 7, then immediately runs the A/UX installer program, which shows a dialog entitled, "A/UX Install progress" and has a progress bar. 2.The dialog indicates "Loading..." with a progress bar about 25%. 3. The video resets once, then a new dialog appears that says, "Welcome to Apple Workgroup Server 95" and has a progress bar and a status string. The progress bar is about 25 % and the status string indicates "Launching...". The CD-ROM is being read. 4. The status strings changes to "Initializing environment." the progress bar goes to 100%. The CD-ROM is being read during this time. 5. the status changes to "Please wait, this will take a while". The CD-ROM continues being read for about 30 seconds. 5. The machine stops reading the CD-ROM, spits out the boot floppy and erases the screen so it is all just a gray pattern, with no mouse pointer. Nothing else happens. I've waited 30 minutes, and nothing. Machine is frozen. Does anyone have any help here? Do I need to partition my hard drive first? I have 5 partitions, the 2 partitions for the disk driver and loader (or whatever those first two are supposed to be), followed by an HFS partition for Mac OS 8.1 of 200mb, then a 144mb A/UX partition for the swap file and a 650 mb A/UX partition for root. I made the last two partitions with FWB toolkit. That's my complete braindump. I could really use some help. Thanks in advance. Ed Murphy = - Ed Murphy [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
