Re: Adding RAM

2004-01-02 Thread Stan
The maximum ram capacity of a machine is determined by
the addressing range it has, so if your machine only
supports a maximum of xxMb ram, then thats the limit
:(

Hi peeps,

Does anybody know which version of mac os is best
suited to a PPC 8200? It has a 120Mhza 601 cpu, and
I'm currently using 8.1, is there any reason why I
should upgrade it to 8.5 or 9?

Re: Sound volume problem

2003-10-24 Thread Stan
The startup sound is in the ROM infortunately, so any
settings you change in the OS make no difference. It's
annoying I know.

I have always just put up with it on my Quadra 610,
but I suggest you try 2 things.

1 - Plug some headphones or external speakers into the
speaker socket on the back of the mac, this may
dissable the internal speaker and then you can turn
the volume down on them. Actually this should sort it,
I just tried.

2 - Otherwise you could just open the mac and unplug
the internal speaker.

Re: NUBUS cards (was: Dead NuBus cards - how to revive???)

2003-10-15 Thread Stan
On the topic of NUBUS cards I have two lying here
doing nothing; an apple High-Res graphics card and a
network card with 10base-2 and AUI ports.

Anybody want them?

can you ping one machine from another? Is the hub 10
or 100Mbps, and what about the ethernet cards?

Re: hi

2003-10-03 Thread Stan
ebay is probably your best bet. There is a dude called
"vernelm" (I think thats the username anyhow) that
sells 040s and 060s, but aparently people have had bad
service from him :(

Still a good idea to keep an eye out on ebay though.

Yeh surely nost old stuff running on a 601 wouldn't me

I already have too many x86 Linux boxes hanging
arround so I'm sticking with 8.1. AFAIK Quadra 610s
have a full 040 whereas Centris 610s have an LC 040.

hi

2003-09-26 Thread Stan
Hi Peeps,

I'm new to this list having just aquired an old Quadra
610 with OS8.1, so I'm sure I'll be asking a lot of
questions in future.

I'm used to using AmigaOS, Windows & Linux mainly and
don't have much of a clue about Macs. I'd like to get
coding for this mac but whats the best place to start?
I've used CodeWarrior before, however the target
platform was Palm OS, not MacOS, is codeWarrior a good
idea for the Mac?

Also can I get a PPC card for this Mac or is it not
worth it? Anyone know how to overclock the 040 in
there?

Cheers
Glyn aka lorddef ;)
