I've heard that Gamba is no longer with us.

Are you trying to connect the hard drives at the same
time as the CD and Zip drives? If so, are both of
these drives unterminated?
It turned out the CD was terminated. (The Zip was not.) However, when
I remove that jumper I still can't get the machine to boot with a HD
attached, no matter whether I terminate them or not. With one drive it
did boot, but didn't see the drive on the bus, so that didn't really
help. What else could be causing a SCSI lockup?

Can the Quadra boot from a Zip? Maybe I will try putting a system and
the installer on a Zip and disconnecting the CD drive.

Has anyone ever put 2 CD drives in a Quadra 900/950?
No, but I can't think of any reason why you couldn't, as long as the
SCSI IDs are different.

[q] Q840AV fails to boot, SCSI problem suspected

2005-04-18 Thread Timothy Larson
Hello listers,
I'm trying to revive a Q840 and have the "pointer freezes during boot"
SCSI problem whenever a hard drive is connected. However, I can boot
from CD fine when only the CD (ID 3) and Zip (ID 5) drives are
connected. I've tried at least 4 different hard drives so far (Maxtors
and Seagates, 1-2GB, at least two of them from Apple). I've tried them
set to ID 0 and 1, terminated and not terminated, and on both of the
open positions at the end of the ribbon. What else can I check? There
is enough space in the bottom drive bay to fit two 1/3-height drives,
but at this point I'd be happy to just get one working! The Q840 has
68MB IIRC and two Nubus cards installed, but neither is a SCSI card.

Thanks for any suggestions,
Tim
