That would be REALLY cool.

Yes, and I finally found a modern optical mouse the other day that works
with ADB. By modern, I mean it doesn't require a special reflective pad.

It's called the Kensington Mouse-in-a-Box USB/ADB and ranges in price
from about $18 to $30 online. This is the only modern optical mouse I've
ever heard of that uses ADB, and based on my experience with other
Kensington mice, it should be a winner.

Re: ADB Optical

Dan Palka [EMAIL PROTECTED]:

Is there a such a thing as an optical ADB mouse?

A company called Mouse Systems of Fremont CA marketed a pair of optical
mice for the Mac. One of those features three buttons (two are
user-programmable methinks); and the other is my very favorite, called
the Little Mouse because it is small and cute.

These pointing devices are VERY COOL. They work with a reflective, metal
mouse pad, are long-lasting and maintenance-free, and very accurate.
Mouse Systems no longer produces these, but they do appear on eBay
occasionally. Of course, I've hoarded a couple of sets for my personal
planned obsolescence.

Re: ADB Optical

Yes; I think a few were available for NeXT boxen, and there may have been
one
or two for the Mac as well.

They require special mousepads with reflective patterns, however; there
aren't
any modern LED-style optical mice for the ADB.
what are the pins in ADB used for? would it be possible to modify a modern
USB or PS/2 mouse to work with it? or repace some of the circuitry in the
ADB mouse (and the whole area with the ball, possibly a new case) with that
of a optical mouse so that it would work

You'd have the same problems you would adapting any other USB device to ADB;
namely, it won't work.

I bought one of these on ebay -- Mouse Systems A/3 mouse. It came w/o
software, but works OK. Anyone know if there was any original
software to go with it... and where to get it from?
