[Quantum Owners] Re: How much for a 2+2?

2013-08-20 Thread neil birkin
They used to be expensive cars! Mine cost me 8 grand to build originally
(one of the ones on ebay now). However they have since seemed to 'fall out
of favour' alongside the rise of the seven rep. So people seem to be just
trying to get the best price they can for them. Personally - although I am
sure that the 4 grand car is gorgeous, it is made from exactly the same kit
as the 1 - 2 grand cars. so you pays you money and you take your choice
I reckon. I am currently in a bit of a dilemma as I have been thinking
about buying my old one back - however there is a little damage to the
passenger door so i priced one up at quantum. My god a door is expensive!!!
So expensive I reckon I would be better off buying a different car to be
honest...

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: How much for a 2+2?

2013-08-20 Thread Jim Hearne
I think the main problem is there are now plenty of MX5’s and MGF’s around for
people who want an open topped sports car.
There wasn’t anything similar when the 2+2 first came out.

Nowadays 99% of people are happy with a production car rather than something
with 1980’s parts underneath it.

Whereas the 7 market are all kit cars, there’s not really a production option,
if you can’t afford a real Caterham you buy a clone.

I’m sure Eddie could repair the door for a lot less than a new one from Quantum.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: How much for a 2+2?

2013-08-20 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
I think you've hit the nail on the head as the saying goes, however I can see
the possibility in a few years that new cars will again become expensive, with
the consequence that used cars will also be more expensive - due to the down
sizing and closure of assembly plants when the demand fell. This effect may be
lessened by the far eastern, Indian, Chinese manufacturing trying to gain a
market. The knock-on may be that kit car values rise, but I can't envisage a
return to the heydays of the 70's and 80's! There are other factors, not least
the ease of finding donor parts (in the good old days) when you just simply
went into a breakers yard and it was all there - not quite the same now - Ah,
nostalgia ain't what it used to be!

2013-08-20 Thread chris.quantum
I agree, Eddie can fix ANYTHING.
If your talking about the white 2+2 on ebay with the damaged door then that he
can fix that no problem, at a fraction of the price of a new door!

Eddie Ruskin, I’m sure he will be along here later.
I’d send you his email privately but Google groups is now filtering emails out
of the messages so i can’t see yours.
Send me an email to j...@quantums.info and i’ll let you have it.

You’d have a job to find something in fibreglass that Eddie can’t repair.

Eddie who? The door has a load of cracks in the gel coat - its not a simple
ding that needs to be filled and sorted.

I think the main problem is there are now plenty of MX5’s and MGF’s around

There wasn’t anything similar when the 2+2 first came out.

Nowadays 99% of people are happy with a production car rather than something
with 1980’s parts underneath it.

Whereas the 7 market are all kit cars, there’s not really a production
option, if you can’t afford a real Caterham you buy a clone.

I’m sure Eddie could repair the door for a lot less than a new one from
Quantum.

They used to be expensive cars! Mine cost me 8 grand to build originally (one
of the ones on ebay now). However they have since seemed to 'fall out of
favour' alongside the rise of the seven rep. So people seem to be just trying
to get the best price they can for them. Personally - although I am sure that
the 4 grand car is gorgeous, it is made from exactly the same kit as the 1 - 2
grand cars. so you pays you money and you take your choice I reckon. I am
currently in a bit of a dilemma as I have been thinking about buying my old one
back - however there is a little damage to the passenger door so i priced one
up at quantum. My god a door is expensive!!! So expensive I reckon I would be
better off buying a different car to be honest...

Hiya

Just a thought - the exhaust mountings are ok? I got my exhaust from
National Tyres - have no problems with the fit. Quicker to check that than
fiddle with springs etc...

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: suspension

2013-08-20 Thread jon jackson
I had exactly the same problem when I bought my 2+2 short stiff springs are not
any good on our third world roads that are also speed bumped.
With I took the advice from Jim Hearne to use Fiesta 1.4 standard front springs
and standard 1.1 Fiesta rears and its plenty hard enough as the car is lighter
than a Fiesta.
These springs were bought new of Ebay.
I was not out of the woods yet because the shocks were not quite right and I
was lucky to get a complete Spax adjustable set in very good condition again of
Ebay.
The car clears all bumps and is also a riot on track.
Good luck
