[Quantum Owners] Rear Brake Adjusters

2015-07-29 Thread Derek Clews
Dear All,

I now have the following info. from Ford. The rear brake adjusters are part of
a kit along with the actuator bars. Finis 6177237 Pt No 84FB-2K286-AB. Ford
want £53.32 on special order, so pay an advance and no refund/ return if they
are wrong. The catalogue pictures were generic, so don’t help. Can anyone
confirm the numbers?

The Mk1 & Mk 3 versions are shown as different part numbers. Mk1’s are
available individually. But the catalogue picture was the same for all MK’s.
But how different are they really? I will let you know if I find out.

I am making a list of whatever numbers I have. Can we have a central point on
the Owners Club site with a collection of Finis & part numbers, please?

Derek

[Quantum Owners] Fordopedia

2015-07-29 Thread Derek Clews
Dear All,

Any of you heard of Fordopedia? Seems to have the ford Catalogue online.
Strangely the ford system and the Fordopedia class the Fiesta Mk 2 under the
same as the Mk1. No mention of the Mk2 in the title but separate pages for it
anyway. e.g. http://www.fordopedia.org/parts-catalog/fiesta-mk1/E3.20

Any more info on getting parts ID’ed or part numbers explained?

Re: [Quantum Owners] Fordopedia

2015-07-29 Thread Jim Hearne
Interesting, looks like somebody has worked out how to extract the raw data
from Fords Microcat.

The Mk2 was a facelift of the Mk1 rather than a new car so a lot of parts are
common to them both and they are grouped together on Microcat.

I will have a look on Microcat tonight and compare the Mk1/2 and Mk3 adjusters
but i think they are different.

I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace any, whats wrong with yours ?

Hi Jim,

This part is not usually included with brake shoes or fitting kits as a
consumable. The other half often is, (the lower smaller part with a spring) so
gets renewed while this part has to be transferred on and on until it wears
out. My Q 2+2 had done c120,000 when the adjuster teeth wore down and slipped.
I got a new set from Eddie some time ago and fit them and now the Coupe has
had the same problem. It means the affected side will not hold on the
handbrake and the footbrake becomes less effective. It’s an MOT fail, so it’s
important to get them done, even if you can leave the car in gear when parked
………..!

Derek,
Have you tried contacting Quantum Heritage? I think they have the old
Quantum stock so may be able to help?

Regarding putting part information and numbers on the club site, yes it can
be done. Send the detail to webmas...@quantumowners.co.uk so it can be added.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Fordopedia

2015-07-29 Thread Derek Clews
Steve,

I wonder if we could have a ‘personal experience’ data base that goes beyond
the Ford numbers - seems that the microcat is available on line now! But it
would be good to document the normal numbers and the useable alternatives, e.g.
if a Mk 3 or Mk1 part fits. Seems that many engine parts, clutch, gearbox and
some suspension are useable across the models. But obviously, the headlight is
Mk2 only. Some aftermarket stuff may be a good option. Hope that gives an
impression of what I am suggesting. It’s really harnessing the clubs
collective knowledge & experience to the benefit of all members and keeping the
cars on the road.

Cheers

Derek

only in case of . . . .

If the teeth are worn and you need to get through MOT you can spot-weld the
adjuster in a position that allows you to just get the drum over the brake
shoes.
Then adjust the handbrake so the mot handbrake and rear brake test goes ok.

if someone can make a drawing in AutoCAD it can be laser cut . . . .

Regarding putting part information and numbers on the club site, yes
it can be done. Send the detail to webmas...@quantumowners.co.uk so
it can be added.

I will have a look on Microcat tonight and compare the Mk1/2 and Mk3

I don’t think I’ve ever had to replace any, whats wrong with yours ?

I've done a cross catalogue search of the Mk2 (The Mk1 is different
again) Fiesta part number 6177237and it isn't used on any other Fords.
I suspect the Mk3 part will be longer because of the larger drum
diameter on the Mk3

2015-07-29 Thread Derek Clews
Thanks Jim & Steve,

Seems they are unique then. The listing for the Italian items, they certainly
look correct but still under 1983 in the title. (Mk1 date) Seems to be bit of
confusion. No wonder its difficult to search!
