[Quantum Owners] Re: Xtreme Vs other 7 type cars.

2019-08-10 Thread Dave English
Hi Mark

Having been involved with kit cars since the mid 80's, maybe you should
remind your friend that Caterham were just another kit car manufacturer,
better than a Westfield but probably not as good as a Tiger.
You can still buy a new one in kit form and the design hasn't changed much
since the 80's, which puts it about a decade behind the Extreme's design.
The only thing that made Caterham different was a good marketing move. They
bought the rights to use the '7' logo and went mainstream, instantly
annoying all the other '7' kit manufacturers who suddenly no longer had
Lotus 7 replicas or lookalikes, but Sevenesque style sport cars.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Nose Cone Wiring

2019-08-10 Thread chris.quant via Quantum Owners Group
Diodes are for working the headlight flaps in the 2+2 and saloon, so that
the flaps open when you flash the lights.

You don't need them if you only want the spot lights to flash (the
headlights will still flash but the flaps won't open).

Flaps will be open when lights are on full beam as they are powered from
side lights.

I think 2+2 has a slightly different set up as side lights are next to
indicators. Jim has done a wiring diagram somewhere.

[Quantum Owners] Re: Electrics Failure

2019-08-10 Thread bennie

Thank you for all your responses.

I have previously had problems with the 'ignition' relay as some time ago
my wipers and heater fan stopped working. I found that this relay had
melted the plastic in the fusebox around the terminals. I cleaned it up and
all was well. I did make a note to address the issue in a more permanent
manner but then forgot all about it - as you do!

As I lost all electrical items this time I wrongly assumed that the relay
only controlled the wipers and the heater fan and so I was then looking for
something which would affect everything. Oops.

In respect of the relay do they heat up because they are beginning to fail
or do they heat up through general use?

Initially I have decided to adopt the belt and braces approach and go down
the new relay and holder/socket route and I am now waiting for these to
arrive.

First job will be to take out the drivers seat to make more room for the
fuller figure and less bendiness and I can then check the earth on the A
pillar at the same time.

Regards

Phil Holden
