[Quantum Owners] MOT Reg Changes
As we're all getting quite enthusiastic about legal issues and MOT regs etc Someone at work forwarded the below link to me last week: http://uk.autoblog.com/2012/01/04/changes-to-mot-rules-in-2012-are-you-ready/ I was wondering how some of this might affect our Quantum's at MOT time. (Not sure how much of the article is the usual scare- mongering). Some highlights I thought may casue a few issues: 1. Missing, or split/damaged dust covers on steering and suspension ball-joints will result in failure if they will allow dirt to enter the joint. maybe that's always been the case and is good practice to sort ASAP anyway but a pain if time is short in the run-up to your MOT. 2. They've essentially closed the door on after-market HID (GOOD!). So if you've got them, you may have trouble now. 3. Fail for insufficiently supported or protected wires. 4. Driver's seat must go back and forward. So presumably if you've got a fixed type bucket seat, that could be a problem. Any thoughts? [Quantum Owners] Anyone here 'lost' their 2+2?

[Quantum Owners] Re: Quantum Kit Cars is born.
On a similar theme, there's probably still quite a few people after a proper fuel injection tank for the 2+2 (me for one). For me, preferably a custom aluminium one with integral swirl-pot and internal pump. Would definitely tidy-up my existing tank, external swirl-pot, external lift-pump, external F.I. pump setup! Probably not that much profit in it for you I suppose as you're more GRP than ali-fab but there would be demand and it'd help a load of us out now and in the future. Merry Christmas all. [Quantum Owners] Re: LED light bulbs?
Oooh, a wireless third brake light. Is that a custom one you've wired or something off the shelf? I've not installed the Audi TT one I bought to go on my 2+2 yet because I haven't had the courage to drill another hole in the boot top for the wiring (and the 101 other much more important jobs I don't have time to sort which have priority!). On 3 Sep, 14:05, Ian Harrison bighatp...@googlemail.com wrote: Those fold out ones look pretty good! I have LED brake lights, but normal filament tail lights. As brake lights I would say they are at least as good as filament bulbs in my case. One LED bulb has a tiny transmitter in which activates my wireless high level brake light. [Quantum Owners] Re: LED light bulbs?
Has anyone tried the fold-out LED bulb replacements like these?: https://www.europaspares.com/LIGHTING/BULBS/SPIDERLITE_X2_LED_BULBS___RED___AMBER_4793.html From the photo it doesn't look much of an improvement (still worse area coverage than using the reflector properly with a normal bulb) but they might be better. [Quantum Owners] Re: H4 rear brake pipes
HID headlight conversions come up regularly on almost all car forums (as it has on here before). See here for the most definitive info: http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/roadsafety/drs/hidheadlamps If you type VOSA HID into your preferred search engine you'll see similar discussions everywhere. Just because you can buy them on Ebay doesn't make them legal for use on UK roads (as with smoked rear lights, LED washer jets and the rest of the profusion of chav gear you can purchase. No, you might not fail an MOT, but how many people regularly pass MOTs with serious failings!? Up to you. Matt On 29 Aug, 16:28, Ken Needham fixit-wo...@hotmail.co.uk wrote: Thanks for that Mark. His response was an immediate and definite no. Apparently HID lamps can only be fitted to vehicles with self levelling headlamps. A few minutes research found the following: 'Vehicles equipped with HID headlamps are required by ECE regulation 48 also to be equipped with headlamp lens cleaning systems and automatic beam levelling control. Both of these measures are intended to reduce the tendency for high-output headlamps to cause high levels of glare to other road users.' -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Quantum Owners Group group. [Quantum Owners] Re: RS2000 front brakes on a H4 Rear suspension.
There's normally a list on the front page of totalkitcar.com of all kits that have passed the IVA (as supplied by the manufacturers themselves I believe, not individuals). On 11 Feb, 18:17, Derek Clews derek_cl...@lineone.net wrote: Surely mass production cars are not built as strongly as that, are they? Anyone now what current kit cars are passing the IVA, if any? Derek On 10 Feb 2010, at 17:49, Hamish Freeman wrote: I would agree with that - my Beauford failed its IVA test on many issues but in particular anything fixed in fibreglass, regardless of thickness or reinforcement was an instant fail! As for anything going through the wooden floors (I had actually anticipated all of this but not to the level of a Brick Outhouse approach now apparently required). All structural stuff - brakes and seat belt fixings - has to be taken back to a steel chassis member through a minimum of 4 mm steel plate - not in the regs but that is what I was told. Although the bulkhead on an H4 is made of steel, it does flex but nothing like as much as the transfer linkage necessary with the Fiesta brake system. - Original Message - From: Susan and Martin Scott To: quantumowners@googlegroups.com Sent: Wednesday, February 10, 2010 5:27 PM Subject: Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: RS2000 front brakes on a H4 Rear suspension. sound like they are anti -GRP -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups Quantum Owners Group group.
