2011-05-25 Thread Jim Turner
Hi, What is the best paint type for fiberglass, two pack or base coat
lacquer? It will go onto gel coat.

Re: [Quantum Owners] PAINT

2011-05-25 Thread Susan and Martin Scott
A non-trade person isn't able (I believe) to buy 2 pack to spray because of
the isocianate dangers.
If you are getting it done professionally then there are various options,
but you need to know it won't be put in an oven (ask Eddie Ruskin). Is the
base coat you are considering a cellulose? with a 2pack lacquer over?
You could always get a 2 pack brushing polyurethane paint from a boat
stockist (ok re danger if you are only brushing)
These are made by International Paints among others - would work out a lot
cheaper.

Re: [Quantum Owners] PAINT

2011-05-25 Thread Russell Willcox
I would always go for two pack as it is a much more durable paint and
would steer well clear of basecoat and laquer. For some reason
on plastic cars the laquer seems to lose adhesion to the underlying
basecoat and flakes off. I have had 2 cars like this and have seen a lot
of Lotus' the same. Maybe it is bad prep but I would play safe and chose
a flat colour in 2 pack.

[Quantum Owners] Paint on Bonnet - Need a professional/advice

2011-02-26 Thread Arn1905
I had my 2+2 resprayed about 2 years ago, then the paint on the bonnet
started to crack over the summer.
I'm guessing because it was sprayed on too thick and not given enough
time to cure or dry. I told them this and all i got back was That
looks like some one has walked up and keyed it to me (obviously
trying to shift the blame form them) Even though you can clearly see
the movement where the paint has traveled in the gaps it has left.

I then sent it back and they sprayed it again, same thing happened
again over the summer. Don't want to deal with them again as they have
no idea what they are doing.

To this day you can dent the paint on the bonnet using a fingernail
which makes me think it still hasn't dried correctly for some reason.
Any ideas?

Don't suppose anyone knows anyone able to spray fiberglass as i need
the bonnet re-done.
I had it resprayed at a place called Lightning crash repairs, just a
word of advice for anyone that may think of using them. Don't.

Here is a link to the photo album.

I will try and embed an image, although i dont think it lets me.

Hi,

Geoff had his done there, was not 100% happy and they resprayed it.

Friend of mine used to work there.
