[Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme

2014-09-23 Thread Dave Gell
Sorry if I have miss lead anyone? my car has a Zetec engine. I know it had
a 1.8 in and now a 2ltr because I have two separate rolling road print out
carried out by Quantum themselves. The latter 2ltr shows it as 188.3bhp. It
has m/cycle throttle bodies but to make this bhp it must also have
different cams? This info I dont have. I have e-mailed Quantum because the
guy I purchased from said he had been told it was built by them but so far
have not had a reply. Does the photo of my car jog anyone's memory. One
thing I do know is its great fun to drive and I dont know why its taken me
this long to indulge in one.

from my general understanding and asking a mate

'165-170 with standard head and sports exhaust and MTB throttle bodies or
carbs. Maybe a bit more with head porting matching to manifold'

I reckon that is a bit hight about 150 - 160 is more reasonable for
standard cam

all at the flywheel..

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme

2014-09-24 Thread Dave Gell
Chris that's why I'm interested in knowing what cams etc, I have both
dynamometer print outs from Dastec at Quantum. With the 1.8 on 13/03/09 it
was 154.8bhp. On 30/04/10 with the 2ltr its 188.3. these are flywheel
readings. At the wheels with the 2ltr it says 151.5bhp. Its running on
throttle bodies but this is new territory to me so i want to learn. Right
in re-reading these printouts I see the customer was a Dave Birkinshaw
anyone know of him?

Just for interest everyone this is all a first for me. I have not done any
if this Forum malarkey before, but am finding the help and contact so far
very good. I'm at the big 60 mark in life always loved my motor sport
(anything with an engine) my early days of cars were Mini Coopers etc.I
went to the Donington kit car show the other week in my new toy and found
the attention and friendliness of everyone brilliant.

[Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme fuel pump

2014-10-23 Thread Dave Gell
Mine an injection. The fuel pump in on the top of the tank inside what
looks like a metal cage/ mounting? Today I cut into the wires that go up to
the pump as i cant even reach these at the pump itself. No voltage at the
supply. I connected direct to a spare battery and the pump spins like a
good un. Engine started so not the pump now but power supply. I now need to
trace back, poss a relay or wire fault?

There will be a relay near the fusebox which is usually located under the

Bingo?
Found two additional relays (with integral fuse ?) never seen these type
before, tucked up way out of sight above the heater vent piping. One with a
very doggy fuse that had been getting hot for some time with the looks of
it. replaced complete relay with same type and new fuse hey presto running
again. Shame its raining now don't want to get my car wet. Boy is it tough
lying upside down with yer head in the foot well? Thanks to all for your
interest, idea's and info,

Haven't been able to check the car yet but have checked the Zetec build
manual and Omex wiri8ng diagram.
Connector pin 3 (blue wire) of the Omex 500 is an aux used for a relay
powering the fuel pump, coil pack, injectors and lambda. There is a wiring
diagram for this in the Zetc/ Omex supplement. Can scan and send if you
wish.

On a separate note, I see your e mail address 'via gelia' this was the
local name given to the road from Newhaven to Cromford, near where I grew
up in Buxton. Is there a connection!

Brown (Earth) and Black/Red (Supply) are Fords standard wire colours for the
fuel pump on a donor Sierra.
Maybe somebody used the Ford fuel pump connector and some of the wiring for
the fuel pump.

Yes I have the build manual but there is no ref to fuel pump relay. It does
mention fuel pump wiring on the rear connection section but the colours are
not the same? Man says white/purple and black earth. Wires to my pump are
brown and black/red? There is no amendment page in my manual?

[Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme build Carb / bonnet problem

2009-11-24 Thread Andrew
Had a look at some twin 45's online - Nice idea, and I think would
work but I was hoping for a more modest solution for a temporary
engine. (my Xmas present quota dropped when I brought the kit last
year!) Don't have a problem with exhaust- gets out of the chassis OK.

I have never run a engine without a filter apart from in a garage,
would the IVA have a problem with this ? Also I have had a few
backfires presumably because of the missing filter set-up- how could I
compensate ?

Paul @ QSC thought someone out there had solved the problem with an
adaptor plate and a tube to an aftermarket filter but was not sure on
details, and I can't see how this would fit at all with the limited
space ? Any more ideas welcome.

Thanks all so far.

Andrew

[Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme build Carb / bonnet problem

2009-11-25 Thread Ian Mac
Andrew,

I fitted a 2.0L pinto with the standard twin choke weber carb under
the bonnet without any holes cut (or an air filter). I didn't want
to cut hole in the bonnet as I had planned to change to side draught
in the future.

This was not an issue for SVA and I cannot see how it would be for
IVA.

>From memory the clearance from the top of the carb to the bonnet was
only about 10-20mm though and after a while some black marks could be
seen on the bonnet. I fitted some heat reflective material with some
thin metal sheet to avoid any risk of further scorching.

After running over the summer, I decided that I was not getting enough
air to the carb so ended up cutting a hole in the top of the bonnet
that resulted in instantly improved performance. Following this I
fitted a K & N Filter to the top of the carb with an oval hole in the
bonnet.

The car then ran very well; hope this is some help.

Regards,

Ian Mac

[Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme build Carb / bonnet problem

2009-11-27 Thread Andrew
All very helpful, I will probably protect the bonnet and get tested
without a filter. Then go engine shopping earlier than planned! Thanks
all, Andrew

I ran mine without a filter then when I changed the engine I fitted an
aftermarket filter and then cut a hole in the bonnet

I have twin 45's on my pinto and I don't need a hole for those. The
exhaust however, does.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Re: Extreme build Carb / bonnet problem

2009-11-24 Thread Robert Craig
How temporary is the Pinto installation. if it just to get through IVA
perhaps another Xtreme owner with that set up could lend you their bonnet -
if that is feasible.

Andrew
