[Quantum Owners] Xtreme petrol tank venting

2014-05-15 Thread Paul
Check roll over.valve you have fitted in the small pipe is mounted vertically.
They only let air through in the vertical plane any thing off of that and they
close so no air will pass through. I learnt this after having similar issues.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme petrol tank venting

2014-05-09 Thread Nigel Plant
I've just switched about three weeks ago from sierra to aero type. Layout
exactly as James described, breather to fuel filler is 10mm. I drilled and
tapped to fit a breather just tankside of the aero cap seal as the aero didn't
have one.. It works done and no issues with filling. I have though noticed that
when I release the aero cap the seal area is wet with fuel, but it doesn't leak
out and is a non problem. I think there is a lip where the fuel neck changes
diameter that splashed fuel doesn't drain from. Tbh I haven't checked properly
yet.

Has anyone experienced a pressure build up of fuel after filling the tank?
Petrol gushes out as I unlock the aero cap...
Cheers

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme petrol tank venting

2014-05-08 Thread James Davis
Not sure what you mean by after filling up, then unlocking the aero cap. The
tank should
have two breather connections on it. A large (~1/2) one connected to the
original sierra filler
unit near the top to allow displaced air out when filling up. A small (~5mm)
one connected to
a valve assembly, this allows venting to atmosphere during running but shuts if
the car turns
over so it doesn't leak.

I modified my aero filler cap to include the branch for the large breather, as
I'd heard of some
people having problems with filling rate/splash back when they had just blanked
it off.

James.

Re: [Quantum Owners] Xtreme petrol tank venting

2014-05-08 Thread Luke Neville
Hi,

I suffer from this issue and I have identified that it is because I did not use
the Sierra tank vent. Instead I installed a cheap alternative which only allows
air into the tank. The air in the tank above the fuel heats up in use and
expands, crating pressure in the tank.

I have purchased the correct alternative now (about £40 on CBS) which allows
air in and out but have not had a chance to fit it yet.

Hope it helps.

Luke
