Ok my concern mostly is because its my windows disk and i dont trust it,
but another user said that sata disks dont have the same risk of passive
attacks at usbs for some reason.

Except that i broke down and used the usb anyways (its my tails usb) and
it connects and transfers just fine, as does my qubes which is running off
a usb drive now. The problem is in the attaching it to a vm part. I dont
know if im the only one but this does throw the whole new 3.2 usb
virtualization feature into the garbage.

This is not specific to my printer, i used it fine in Tails, the OS asked
me in tails for a login/pass to install a printer, this is not printer
specific, i dont even have to have a printer connected in qubes for this
to happen. In tails i would set an admin password prior to logging in and
then use that to add printers, in qubes it asks for this but does not
accept my user account login info. Add the 'print settings' program to
whonix-gs template and try to add a printer, it will ask for a login/pass.
This is really frustrating if there is some way to disable this or if you
can ask the developer what the login/pass is i really need to use my
printer.

no you don't reboot the template, you just shut it down. Then you
restart/load the appvm you want with the new program, after the template is
shut down.

Try `losetup -P /dev/loop0 whonix.raw`, then mount /dev/loop0p1.

Well first off, completely rebooting my computer seems to have resolved
whatever it was but (as I answered below) I did reboot the guest (the template
right?) it is not a standalone and i did boot the appvm after the template was
updated.

Another small question though, I wasn't familar with "locate" i tried it and
was prompted to install mlocate (did within the appvm and then it error'd about
no db? Is that normal?)

This may seem stupid, but did you reboot the Guest after you installed?

Did you boot the AppVM after the TemplateVM was updated?
It's not a Standalone AppVM is it?

Did you try (in the appvm) doing a locate for the browser to see that it

[qubes-users] trouble brining up chromium in appvm?

2016-10-06 Thread gaikokujinkyofusho
I installed chromium in my fedora template (sudo dnf install chromium) and it
seemed to install no errors, I was able to run it as well, started right up.

I then created a appvm and add the chromium shortcut (which is there) then go
from the launcher to start up chromium but after I click on it nothing happens?
I have tried from the terminal and can't seem to open it from the appvm
terminal (can from the template terminal). I then tried to install it in the
new appvm and it installed and started ok but of course after I restarted the
appvm everything was nuked.

I'm stumped.

Is there a possibility to run iTunes on Linux in an AppVM? At least I am
not aware of it without a virtual machine with Windows.

Network would work in theory, but it would require a bridge, which is
not possible without patching in Qubes OS afaik.

Network backups also need to be setup for the first time via USB which I
can workaround atm by copying over the iTunes configuration from the
other VM but this still requires a bridge network device.

Re: [qubes-users] Installation problems?

2016-10-06 Thread Jodie
I managed to install by redownloading the ISO, repeating all the steps
(verifying, burning, etc). On the second (!) attempt of trying to install using
the same flash drive, it succeeded. The first time, it gave me some other error.

So...trying the same thing multiple times may not be insanity after all?

USB passthrough for HVM is currently broken, You need to either use a Linux
AppVM or do it over the network.
