Re: [qubes-users] Re: [3.2rc2] Cannot execute Qubes configuration after installing
I had the same issue when installing Qubes on a usb drive. It was also very slow and I also selected the default options. The Executing Qubes Config prompt appeared then the progress/loading bar stopped/froze after a while. I let it continue for about an hour and a half (with the frozen progress bar) and it finished configuring. I believe the frozen status bar may be a glitch when installing on slower media (usb drives, HDDs) I could be wrong though. [qubes-users] how to cleanup the application menu?
Hi, this is probably documented somewhere but I seem to not find the right keywords to get to the answer. Issue: I have uninstalled the debian-8, fedora-23, fedora-25, whonix-* templates. All my VMs are based on fedora-25-minimal clones, a windows-7 or kali template. However the application menu still shows all of the uninstalled templates. How can I clean this up? I already manually removed the .menu files from /etc/xdg/menus/application-merged except the qubes-dispvm.menu obviously. Re: [qubes-users] AMD and ME?
AMD PSP is AMD's version of ME present in the new AMD stuff - one has to buy an older 2013 or before AMD x86 CPU to avoid it generally. Todays options for *new* owner controlled performance hardware is POWER8 and 9 - x86 is dead and those who claim otherwise have no idea what they're talking about. Your options: Low/Medium Performance - KCMA-D8 for $260 with $60 4386 CPU (plus ram cpu etc) just abut an FX-8310 - KCMA-D8/KGPE-D16 have libre owner controlled firmware - it is circa 2011 hardware but it will run qubes 4.0. I have one and it works great and supports IOMMU-GFX so you can play games in a VM via an attached graphics card. Ultra High Performance (brand new hotness and truly special) - The TALOS 2 POWER9 workstation which is 100% libre and owner controlled including not just the firmware but the hardware too - price is 2K (plus ram, psu case etc) which is a great deal for high performance workstation/server hardware (ironic that the closed source x86 crap costs more) - Note that you would not be able to run x86 windows apps in a windows VM without a significant performance penalty so you would need to be entirely linux, it also supports IOMMU-GFX so you can watch movies in a VM or play some of the few linux games that have source code available (to compile for POWER) POWER9 supports 8 SMP threads per core so it is great for virtualization even if one doesn't buy one of the 12+ core CPU's. You would have to compile qubes for POWER as there is no POWER port, but that can easily be done. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Hi Anguilla1980, now after some time I question my attempt to install Qubes, which relies on GPU passtrough and lots of RAM, on a Surface Pro with just an IGP. This is what I suppose: Since this is a not common use case for Xen it denies its service. See the latest changelog from Xen. https://lists.gt.net/xen/changelog/489651?page=last If you like to go ahead, wait for the Qubes 4.0 final. Whenever this issue has come up in the past, it's invariably been solved by a slow and methodical approach. Make sure that the DVMTemplate has customisations and the .qubes-dispvm-customized file in /home/user (It does, you say.) Close down the DVMTemplate. Wait. Regenerate the DVMTemplate (as you have). If this doesnt work, then try closing all disposableVMs, qvm-remove the debian-8-multimedia-dvm, and start again. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] secure hardware after purchase but before qubes installation
For those that run Qubes on an off the shelf computer, did you go through any special steps to insure the hardware was clean after you purchased, but before you installed qubes? I'm about to buy new hardware for my installation and I'm thinking of all the places in the purchase chain where a laptop could be compromised. Does anyone have advise on how to not become the one in a million person to get a laptop with compromised hardware? For example: Do I need to replace any parts just in case? Yes performance after were okay, although a bit slower than another Linux. Are you also using the same laptop model? Only later I discovered that disabling power management in the BIOS brings normal performance, i.e I cannot really feel that it is virtualized (a very nice feeling). [qubes-users] Unable to install virt-manager in Fedora 25 template due to dependency issue
Hi all, I am trying to install the virt-manager package in the Fedora 25 template but there seems to be a dependency issue: $ sudo dnf install virt-manager Last metadata expiration check: 0:40:31 ago on Fri Sep 1 13:30:30 2017. Error: package virt-manager-1.4.0-4.fc25.noarch requires virt-manager-common = 1.4.0-4.fc25, but none of the providers can be installed (try to add '--allowerasing' to command line to replace conflicting packages) If I provide '--allowerasing' it wants to downgrade xen-libs and uninstall the Qubes tools. While it was working with Fedora 24, I think I have seen this issue previously in an older version as well.
