[qubes-users] websites suddenly don't work when connected to vpn

2018-12-05 Thread blupunk098
Hi

hi i have had a new install of qubes 4.0.1-rc1 working for some weeks now. i
have successfully set up vpn connection through different ways including the
old CLI method:

https://www.qubes-os.org/doc/vpn/

and newer Qubes-vpn-support:

https://github.com/tasket/Qubes-vpn-support

I have done this with qubes 3.2 in the past with no hitch so not much of noob.

but now out of the blue when I connect to a vpn that is successful, I cannot
access websites in firefox or chromium - they time out. this is both within the
proxy/vpn VM and from an appVM.

i don't think it is a dns issue because when I open terminal in the vpnVM and
appVM and ping 8.8.8.8 or hostnames like google.com they work fine.

i am sure it was working before but something has happened since. I am able to
access websites through the sys-firewall VM no problem.

i have made new vpnVMs from scratch with stock openvpn configs, still same
problem.

perhaps a problem with firewall, iptables or a new debian update?

seems like things were more seamless with 3.2 concerning vpn's.

thanks guys

2018-12-05 Thread '我' via qubes-users
Hello.

When reading this list I thought G505s A10 is the best laptop for Qubes.
So I'd like to purchase it, but I am wondering how many memory to put in.

Could you give me some advice?

On my Macbook Pro I can successfully use the Broadcom BCM43602 wifi adapter
with a Fedora sys-net by using a short script to start sys-net manually after
boot (i.e. I disable sys-net auto start and then run the following script
manually after each boot to start sys-net):

#!/bin/bash
qvm-start sys-net &
sleep 3
sudo xl pci-attach sys-net '03:00.0,permissive=1'

---
Basically what works (on my system), and what the script does is to attach the
Broadcom adapter to sys-net as soon as possible after starting sys-net (but
before the sys-net VM has fully booted), a 3 second delay works reasonably
reliably on my system.

Things that don't work for me:
- Attaching the adapter to sys-net before starting it causes my system to
freeze when sys-net is started.
- Attaching the adapter to sys-net too late in the sys-net VM boot process
causes it to not be detected by sys-net (when last I tried anyway).
- qvm-pci doesn't work to attach it (when last I tried anyway), hence using xl
pci-attach.
- I don't think a debian sys-net template worked for me with the BCM43602 when
last I tried, at the moment I'm successfully using a fedora 28 template for
sys-net .
- It something goes wrong during the pci attachment on my system I sometimes
have to reboot the whole system and try again before it will work...

I also have the thunderbolt ethernet adapter working, I think the trick there
is that you have to attach it to the MacBook before booting Qubes, hot plug
didn't work when last I tested it.

You should not need a network connection to install from cache in dom0.
I do not remember the exact command, but reading the man page for dnf should
provide some insight.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, I cannot install any packages from inside Qubes.
This seems to have broken the Internet connection that the net VM uses, or
the connection from net VM to dom0.

[qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 install on my Huawei Matebook X Pro failed

2018-12-05 Thread Laurent Huguenot
I am trying to install Qubes 4.0 on my Matebook X Pro, but I am
experiencing problems. The USB key boot, but the boot freeze when
loading the initrd. I tried to modify the cfg file, commenting
noexitboot and mapbs and changing efi=no-rs, but no result.

Could you help me?

Many thanks

Hello!

If you have access to your machines CLI, then you should be able to reinstall
the packages through dnf. That is all of @kde-desktop-qubes. After that, you
can removing different parts again.

I also installed KDE, and realised that I did not want it, but I noticed how
much dnf wanted to remove so I just stuck with it (and am actually using KDE
mainly now).

I am sorry I cannot give you more clear directions..
