I know almost nothing about qubes internals but did you try to see if your
pci card is mounted to sys-net as a PCI device? Does it appear there? Is it
mounted in other qube?

[qubes-users] Re: EE-PROM of an Lenovo X230

2020-03-11 Thread ggg397
I am looking as to which Linux to install on computer that does the
programming. I am guessing you would recommend Debian, latest version.
Also which Linux to leave on Lenovo X230 before I start to add Core Boot.

When you say. "Voltages, garbage." Are you saying to forget all about
measuring voltages and such? I would guess that the reason the notes say
to check what voltage my Lenovo x230 RAM will handle is because the BIOS
install will control the voltage after install. The notes did not make
that clear.

I do not have at home online internet, making the requirement to be plugged
into internet cable to be an inconvenience. Any easy way around that
requirement?

Thanks for advice.

[qubes-users] Dom 0 latest update disabled my wireless device.

2020-03-11 Thread pc revival
I have been using Qubes for a while now on my personal computers. With the
latest update to Dom 0 on Qubes 4.0.3 my wireless card has disappeared. I
still have the wired connection but no wireless device available. It was
working fine until I did this update and rebooted.
I haven't seen anything else similar listed anywhere.
My desktop is an HP 530 with an Intel 3168NGW wireless card.
Any help or suggestions will be welcome.

this means you are giving the person who created those rpms or anyone
who managed to compromise their build process or storage/distro chain
full root access in your dom0 == full control over the whole system.

"not recommended"

[qubes-users] Installing templates.

2020-03-11 Thread redpollwan
I've downloaded some ubuntu templates with the .rpm extension. I have been
told by someone that I need to put the rpm file into dom0 and then install
via cli with dnf etc.

I don 't know how to copy the rpm into dom0. I have found the qubes docs
that talks about copying and pasting into dom0 but it doesn't really help
me.

Is there a way that I can open a window in dom0 where I see the file
structure such as Home/Downloads/etc as in other qubes? I don't recall
seeing such a thing. I'm just seeing this as an easier way to run a
terminal when I move the template. But I'm still fumbling around and I
thank people for any replies.

Thanks for the tip about the version of Kali. I have the first one. I'll

I was using 255.255.255.0 and 255.255.255.255 with no luck.

It depends entirely on the purpose of the AppVM. I have one called "money"
where I keep my bookkeeping software. The ONLY thing allowed in the firewall
rules is for it to connect to my home network for backup purposes when I'm not
at home. I have not firewalled my "mail" AppVM yet, but I could restrict it to
the servers I use for e-mail (I do pop3 access to yahoo, gmail, hotmail and one
paid for account). Of course "vault" has zero network access at all.

.

Hello

Qubes OS doesn't have integrated anti-malware stuff. It does protect you,
because the most malware will be deletet when you shut down the infected
AppVM (because changes in another folder than the home folder of the AppVM
will be deletet on shutdown). And the separation of you tasks and data in
different AppVMs protects you even if one of your AppVMs got compromised.
The QubesFirewall can protect you from spyware, if you set it up correctly
(in the AppVM settings under "Firewall rules" add only the domains that you
want to use in the specific AppVM).
Now knowing this its about you to decide if you need some anti-malware
apps. But consider also, that anti-malware apps are just normal programs
that check for known not good software. So they can't protect you from not
known malware (witch is easy to create), it increases also your attack
surface im a heavy way and many of anti-malware programs behave like
malware (e.g. running an person in the middle attack on your web
connections or sending information about whats on your computer (in your
case the AppVM) to the producer of the app.).

Thanks.

As a newbie I would like some guidance on how to set up the "QubesFirewall"
"correctly".

I have looked on the following pages, but didn't find any guidance on this.

You wont need a pomona clip - you already have a clip in the kit you
linked to. For one off flashing, that should be fine.

The chuck nemeth piece is a little dated now - probably wont match what
you find in current coreboot, but the principle is fine.
Heads documentation is woefully bad imo.
Check out Skulls for simple prebuilt images: once you've done once you
can flash internally for the rest, and there are simple scripts to run.
You may find it ideal.

You'll read about voltages, identifying chips etc. Garbage.
If you have specific questions ask away.
