[qubes-users] Qubes 4.0 Simple Windows HVM Install doesn't seem to work

2021-07-21 Thread Chrome

https://github.com/Qubes-Community/Contents/blob/master/docs/os/windows/windows-vm.md

I am stuck at
-

   - Click "Boot from CDROM":
  - "from file in qube":
 - Select the qube that has the ISO.
 - Select ISO by clicking "...".
  - Click "OK" to boot into the windows installer.

- Windows Installer:

   -

Mostly as usual, but automatic reboots will halt the qube - just restart
it again and again until the installation is finished.
   -

   Install on first disk.

When I attempt to boot from the iso in another qube, it pops up two
windows, first what appears to be the windows installer, then a blank
terminal that seems unresponsive. I believe the process is borked but it
shouldn't be? It's pretty simple yet doesn't seem to work for me. What do I
do?

Doesn't matter because I give up on this approach or the debian approach. I
nuked the fedora 32 minimal template and will give it a fresh start. I can
tell you for sure I followed your instructions and the documentation and
got no further than I was when I started this post.

Starting fresh: how would you install ArchLinux in preparation for
installing blackarch on top of it?

As for the template, I'm using fedora 32 minimal. I understood the
following steps of the guide to be executed as follows:
https://github.com/Qubes-Community/Contents/blob/master/docs/building/building-archlinux-template.md
Step 0: Dom 0 terminal for all commands
Step 1: open non root xterm in templateVM Fedora32minimal, execute commands
Step 2: Setup appvm build-archlinux2 and set it up per guide and pictures
Step 3-6: All run in appvm terminal per instructions.

If I did something wrong, I don't know what it is. I think the instructions
given are quite sparse for the issues I'm encountering. But that can't be
helped huh?

Doesn't seem to do any better. Running cat

I'm really following this step and step 1 is to install arch linux minimal
via the previously posted guide. I'm going to try to follow your
instructions this time but yeah, that's why I'm following that
documentation; its what I find when I go to the official qubes
documentation site under "External Documentation."

[qubes-users] Troubleshooting: ArchLinux install seems to be stuck, logs attached

2021-06-14 Thread Chrome

Currently on step 6 of
https://github.com/Qubes-Community/Contents/blob/master/docs/building/building-archlinux-template.md

I've tried to run make template as sudo and without (initially without). I
think my build is stuck, what should I do?

If you're in the matrix chat, you've seen me talking about it. Cat logs

Didn't know the fix was that simple. I'm learning as I go so thank you for
the info and your patience. I'm going to try the install process again and
see what else comes up. Thank you unman.

[qubes-users] Tried to install google earth pro to debian qube, need help understanding error message

2021-06-11 Thread Chrome
I bolded the relevant terminal text
*N: Download is performed unsandboxed as root as file
'/home/user/Downloads/google-earth-pro-stable_current_amd64.deb' couldn't
be accessed by user '_apt'. - pkgAcquire::Run (13: Permission denied)*

What does this mean? Did the program fail to install? Do I need to install
it to my template VM? What should I do? FYI: I've done my best to install
everything to the OSINT qube alone but idk if this particular install got
through.

Re: 1, the EyeWitness issue. I still have a problem.
I went into the setup.sh file with gedit to look at the code. The only
relevant line of code seems to be this.

echo "[Error]: ${osinfo} is not supported by this setup script."

There was no \S parameter for me to edit out. And, despite pulling this via
git clone, it seems that the setup.sh script does not support Fedora. I'm
going to google around and see what I can find. Certainly there has to be a
version of this program that likes Fedora. Otherwise I guess I need to try
this again with debian and put up with Firefox ESR.

Floyd: If you see this, let me know if you have any feedback. It would
definitely be appreciated since you commented on my posts before and have
done something similar to what I'm trying to do re: OSINT VM's on Fedora. I
know you settled on debian but I just want to finally call this setup
complete and get on with it, ya know? Thanks again all.

2&3. Sounds like I need to install some sort of 2.x python version. I

4. I'll see what I can find on my own with a Fedora based qube via dnf. Do
you happen to know what it would be for fedora? Thank you for your help.

[qubes-users] How do you safely add foreign language keyboard input to Qubes OS?

2021-06-08 Thread Chrome

Basically I want to be able to switch from the standard Keyboard (English)
to Russian and Spanish phonetic keyboards without accidentally locking
myself out of the default option (English). I'm working on my Russian so I
need to be able to type in Russian, and I also speak Spanish so having that
keyboard setup would be nice as well.

Any advice on this topic would be appreciated. Thank you all.

[qubes-users] Need help troubleshooting four program installs (EyeWitness/theHarvester/pipenv/kazam) for Fedora based OSINT VM

2021-06-08 Thread Chrome

Good Morning again,

I got the OSINT VM about 95% setup. Thank you all for your help on it. I
ran into problems during the install of a few recommended tools in the Mike
Bazzell OSINT manual. These programs are as follows: EyeWitness,
theHarvester, pipenv, and kazam.

Kazam seems like something I don't actually need but I'd still like all
tools set up. Below is the terminal text I saved in a "todo" txt file. Any
help understanding the error messages and what I need to do to resolve them
would be appreciated. I recognize everyone on here is quite busy but this
n00b would definitely appreciate the help. Thank you.

Re: [qubes-users] Trying to create an OSINT VM with Qubes Fedora template: Need help getting pip to work

2021-06-07 Thread Chrome
Sorry for the double post, I'm unfamiliar with google groups. Floyd: I'll
keep that in mind regarding the tools he suggests. For one, I'm not
installing chrome anytime soon. I'll try to stick to open source, but
honestly, I'm probably gonna focus on maintaining anonymity and
effectiveness with how I treat his book. And the tools first usage will
certainly be a crash course for me. If I run into video codec problems with
this install and find it too much of a pain, I'll try the debian install
for sure. I'm actually kinda interesting in seeing what you put together,
do you have a link to that template handy?

And yes, whonix-Qubes with a VPN to make sure google plays nice with me
would be the plan. Thank you.

Re: [qubes-users] Trying to create an OSINT VM with Qubes Fedora template: Need help getting pip to work

2021-06-07 Thread Chrome
I appreciate all the responses. The AppVM approached turned out to be ideal
anyway: what didn't get installed via pip to the templateVM got installed
to a dedicated OSINT "template" AppVM. That way, like steve suggested, I
can clone it at will so I can have a clean start point each time.

As an aside, I don't mind the learning curve honestly for this OS, I love
it. I just had to learn to actually talk and ask for help when it comes to
troubleshooting issues I come across. The OS itself is a little
intimidating for a novice, but all it takes is some work. Appreciate this
response steve, thank you it did help.

[qubes-users] Re: Having an issue with recommneded Qubes Bisq install (Broken Pipe, Device or resource busy)

2021-06-07 Thread Chrome
Attempted fix: try a fedora based install. It seems successful thus far, it
installed following the same process. Just vi when making the config file
vs using nano since its not on the fedora based template.

Steps to be modified from cited guide:
https://bisq.wiki/Running_Bisq_on_Qubes#Install_package
*Configure binding dirs*
sudo nano /rw/config/qubes-bind-dirs.d/50_user.conf BECOMES sudo vi
/rw/config/qubes-bind-dirs.d/50_user.conf

*Install package*
sudo dpkg -i Bisq-*.deb BECOMES sudo dnf install ./Bisq-*.rpm

[qubes-users] Trying to create an OSINT VM with Qubes Fedora template: Need help getting pip to work

2021-06-06 Thread Chrome
Hello there all,

I am currently following the instructions to create an OSINT VM Michael
Bazzell's "Open Source Intelligence Techniques 8th Edition." Naturally I'm
trying to avoid installing a whole new OS (Ubuntu is recommended by the
author) or to have a dedicated laptop for this. I figured it would be a fun
experiment to see how far I could get with Qubes before I ran into
problems.

So far, issues are minor but when I hit a roadblock, like the below
terminal text, I'm ill-prepared to troubleshoot it myself. Can someone help
me understand what I'm looking at and how to fix it so I can install
packages via pip onto my Fedora templateVM? Thank you

Qubes version: 4.0
Problem: Need to install recommended OSINT tools to Fedora 32 templateVM,
user is inexperienced with Linux and troubleshooting issues.
Solutions attempted: YOLOing it and figuring out how to install each
package as best I can, as I come across them, bypassing the ones which I
have difficulty installing.

Relevant Terminal text:
[user@fedora-32 ~]$ sudo -H python3 -m pip install instalooter
WARNING: Running pip install with root privileges is generally not a good
idea. Try `python3 -m pip install --user` instead.

[qubes-users] Having an issue with recommneded Qubes Bisq install (Broken Pipe, Device or resource busy)

2021-06-06 Thread Chrome

Procedure followed: bisq wiki entry for running bisq on qubes
https://bisq.wiki/Running_Bisq_on_Qubes

Current terminal error:
user@bisq-vm:~$ sudo dpkg -i Bisq-64bit-1.6.5.deb
Selecting previously unselected package bisq.
(Reading database ... 133382 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack Bisq-64bit-1.6.5.deb ...
Unpacking bisq (1.6.5-1) ...

*dpkg: error processing archive Bisq-64bit-1.6.5.deb (--install): unable to
move aside './opt/bisq/bin/Bisq' to install new version: Device or resource
busy*
dpkg-deb: error: paste subprocess was killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Errors were encountered while processing:
 Bisq-64bit-1.6.5.deb
user@bisq-vm:~$

Possible things I screwed up on: I typo'd the very first line of the
instructions, is there any chance this caused me a problem during my
install?
"sudo mkdir -p /rw/bind-dirs/opt/bisq/bin/Bisq" was typoed and likely
corresponds to the following terminal message "unable to move aside
'./opt/bisq/bin/Bisq' to install new version: Device or resource busy"

Attempted solutions: Deleted the VM twice and attempted to follow the steps
again, twice.
Potential solution: Follow the same steps on the wiki but try a fedora
install instead?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
