[qubes-users] can not update dom0

2021-01-25 Thread evo

Hi,

I can not update dom0.

The problem comes long ago, I found a solution by setting the update VM
on dom0 to sys whonix. With update VM sys firewall I got
"/usr/liv/qubes-download-dom0-updates.sh: No such file or directory".

With update VM sys whonix it worked well. But now it can not reach any
update server (also changed some tor ips, but without any effect).

I did nothing on dom0 and nothing of sys firewall or sys whonix. Just
updated them in regular way.

Anyone any idea?
best regards
evo

Hi!

Since some time device manager makes some strange problems.
I can mount some USB-Stick, but if i want to unmount it, it shows me,
that nothing is mounted. So i unmount it in the VM itself and reboot the
USB-VM. Then it can mount something again.

Now it shows me even an old USB-Stick i already unmounted, even after
reboot.

[qubes-users] Curl error (6) by updating dom0

2018-05-24 Thread evo
Hi,

now i get Qubes 4.0 working... but by updating dom0 i get much errors.

curl error (6): couldn't resolve host name for ...

there are many of the mirrors which follows then.

it's a very fresh install of the qubes 4.0, so i did not do anything on
the system, but to set the network on manual connection with the router.

the strange thing is, that other mirrors work, so dom0 could
install/upgrade 46 packages.. but not the mentioned with the error.

[qubes-users] No System(xen)boot after Qubes 4.0 installation

2018-05-23 Thread evo
can somebody also post the foto of Qubes 4.0 installer’s graphical
screen? Just where you can choose, what you want to do with you USB/DVD.

i found this in the docs:

"The installer loads Xen right at the beginning, so chances are high
that if you can see the installer’s graphical screen and you pass the
compatibility check that runs immediately after that, Qubes will work on
your system."

So i guess, that i can not install Qubes 4.0 on my system.
It gives me the grafical installation screen, where i choose the
language, but it gives me no choice of bootloader on the USB-flash drive.

[qubes-users] No System(xen)boot after Qubes 4.0 installation

2018-05-23 Thread evo
Hi!

I can not boot the installation of Qubes 4.0 on my W530 Thinkpad.
It shows me no bootloader of Xen and goes in blackscreen. Nothing i can
do, just hard power off.

Can somebody say, which directories are on the boot-partition?

I have a guess, that there's something wrong with it.
although i burned the image with dd on linux, just as i saw it in qubes
docs.

thanks!

Hello!

Do i understand it correctly, that there is no sense to try Qubes 4.0

On my Thinkpad W530 I just have VT-d but no VT-x.

There will be Qubes 3.2.1 for just VT-d machines, isn't it?

strange... i've tried it already yesterday with caja, dolphin and so on,
it gave me "command not found"

now i have nautilus over terminal with 3 warnings: "no space left on device"

so the problem was the missing space.
as i cleaned it, nautilus runs also over GUI.

thank you!

[qubes-users] Problem with Microphone of the Headset

2017-05-24 Thread evo
Hey!

I have still a problem with my headset.
If i plugin them over USB, nothing happens, the USB do not react... i
think its because there are no drivers for this headset.

If i plugin over normal sound-input so i can hear the sound (youtube for
example), but i hear nothing over the mic.

attaching audio input to the VM i'm listening music in does nothing.

if i go to the audio mixer, i can see the mic acting.
at the configuration is "analog stereo duplex"
at the recording is "internal audio analog stereo" and it reacts on mic
action on every VM.

So i have no idea :)
do somebody have one?

[qubes-users] Bug with copy and paste to different window

2017-04-21 Thread evo
Hello!

I have a problem with an appVM based on Fedora24.
I open LibreOffice and Scribus, then i want to copy and paste from
office. But if i copy it from office and go to the scribus-window the
window is not activated... it just still acts with the office-window
behind the scribus-window... just so, if the scribus-window does not exist.

Is it a bug or something else??

Hi!

i tried to play mov-files on debian-8 template (with VLC) and it works
rather good, but just if i make a little window. If i go fullscreen it
doesn't work good at all.

is it a problem of RAM or grafic-card? (i have 16GB RAM, but maby i
should give more to this VM) Initial memory is 2000 and max 4000.

or is it a problem of grafic-card. i have 2 of them, intel and nvidia
K1000M. As i understood, i can not really use nvidia on qubes.

can you play full-hd mov-files in qube-VMs?

hmmm, ok
you won :)

i just thought, its crude to create 3 different template-VMs for vault,
e-mail and banking.

after using Qubes for some time, i understand the possibility to have 38 VMs

so the appVM (based on template) will show me also the green arrow of
update? i thought, it is just visible, if you start the template-VM.

thanks!
i must mount the second drive every time to dom0 (its almost on dom0,
but not mounted, is greyed). Is there any way, to mount it automatically
in dom0 fstab or smth like that?

the second thing is, the data on this VM (on the other SSD) will not be
encrypted. Is there a simple way to let it be encrypted, but work with
the VM?

so is it better to have more template-VMs?
But why not standalone as a copy of the existing template-VM?
After that i can delete all software i dont need on it and have rather
clean VM with just the software i need.

the other thing is, on standalone-vm i can see existing updates just in
time... VM that works on general template dont show updates, for this
case i must start the template vm. So if i do not start template for a
long time, i will have insecure appvms. Or do i understand something wrong?

so its better to have such VMs as banking or email in standalone-mode.
The thing is... as i understood, stanalone-machines (if they are not
HVM) have all software from the template they use. So the only way is,
to install new iso on HVM, isn't it?

in that case, i don't really understand the sense of standalone AppVMs.

if i attach external HDD and look at my left free space on dom0, i can

even if a detach the HDD, the process goes on.

is it something like strange cache or crazy ghosts??

oh.. shit. So the fail was, to give too much space.
The recreation is not possible without deleting all the data on the VM,
isn't it? so i must delete the whole VM with data and then copy the data
again ppfff...

the thing is... is it really important, what is in the "max size"?
there stands 500GB now (it was a mistake with a zero :D) and i don't
have more than 120GB. But the data on this VM is not more than 20GB.
So will it make any problems, if i have 500GB in the "max size"?

i thought about it, also as i thought about HVM... it costs much space,
very much space, if i think about 5-8 VMs. And as i understand it gives

[qubes-users] is it better to have just standaloneVMs?

2017-03-14 Thread evo
Hi!

i consider about the VM-strategy for the personal and other areas.
till now i have just AppVms for this purpose.

But isn't it better to have just standalone VMs, because of the
installed software on each VM?

For example i need openoffice on work-VM, but i don't need it on banking
or personal or whatever VM. Thunderbird i just need on my e-mailVM. If I
install everything on the template all software will be on every
AppVM so it's less secure.

How do you think about it?

fedora is weird... maby because i always worked with debian.
if i look in the software center, then i see gstreamer-extra
installed... gstreamer-libav is listed but i can not install it there...
is there somewhere a block for other sources?

if i go to see the software-sources of the software center, so i see RPM
Fusion free updates and nonfree updates

i also deinstalled the other gstreamer

i made a new standalone VM with debian and there i have
gstreamer1.0-libav (this is the whole name), so the stream works with
firefox now. How can i check, if any flash is installed?

ok, i have it!!! :)
the thing is, you must change the language in the template VM and not
just in the App-VM. As i changed it to the selected language also in the
template VM, so the terminal works.

But the firefox is still in english, fedora changed the language of
every program automatically.

debian 8 is the template

oh.. i think, i understand the problem :D
i used the script on the App-VM and not on the FW-VM.

so the problem is clear now.. sometimes these are just simple things.

multiport is a good option

iptables -I FORWARD -s 10.137.x.x -d x.0.0.0/8 -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT

iptables -I FORWARD -s 10.137.x.x -d x.0.0.0/8 -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

and so on.

the source IP is always the same, because it goes from the same VM, the
dest.IP is in the upper case the same too, because it should give the
443 and 80 on the same website.

can this be a problem, the same dest.IPs and different ports with two
entries? must i write it in one entry with two ports? if yes then, how?

[qubes-users] storage occupancy on qubes os

2017-03-09 Thread evo
Hey!

the last question for today! :D
qubes is really great, but i want to understand some things, that are
new for me.

i don't understand the storage occupancy in Qubes OS.

I can give the home-folder more space, but where can i understand how
much space i have already used? where can i see the whole storage usage?

and how can i add new SSD to the special VM (for example "work")?

thanks for help!

i looked after this rule and the thing was, it was listed also in the
standard firewall-settings on the GUI. So no rule works in the script.

now i can not start terminal ... not on template-VM and not on
debian-VM.. Xterm can be started, but not terminal, which is more
comfortable.

Is it about language??

with -vv it shows me the whole script in terminal.. without problems.

hmm... wait... do i need "iptables -I" just one time at the beginning?
i think this is the mistake. i have it before every line.

sudo yum install gstreamer gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad
gstreamer-plugins-bad-free gstreamer-plugins-bad-nonfree
gstreamer-plugins-base gstreamer-plugins-good gstreamer-plugins-ugly
gstreamer-plugin-crystalhd gstreamer1-plugins-bad-freeworld
gstreamer1-plugins-bad-free gstreamer1-plugins-good gstreamer1-libav ffmpeg

but it is not on server or already installed

security problems with it?

what do you mean with "window manager tweaks"?
where can i find vertical blank synchronization?

the formating is like

VM: {
   work: {
allow_fullscreen = true;
audio_low_latency = true;

};
};

i restarted the VM after change in quid.conf

so i did add the new line under allow_fullscreen = true; by the VM, that

if i want to stream MP4, it comes the download, which i don't want at
all. So firefox wants to download it instead of streaming.

what i don't understand, what does audio have to do with stream?

i will try it with chrome (i don't like)

[qubes-users] qubes-firewall-user-script seems not to work

2017-03-09 Thread evo
Hey!

i've written some rules to /rw/config/qubes-firewall-user-script and
made it "sudo chmod +x /rw/config/qubes-firewall-user-script" but still
have the problem with some connections i posted there.

I made it in the VM, i use in that case.

Here is one of the rules:
iptables -I FORWARD -s (the IP of the VM i use) -d (the IP of the
website with x.0.0.0/8) -p tcp --dport 443 -j ACCEPT

some ideas?

Hello!

i have problems with the most streams on the net.
Youtube is ok, but i suppose rather slow.

I think, this is the thing with flash, HTML5 and openH264.
H264 is deactivated and if i want to activate it, it seems to be not
possible.

Is it so, that HTML5 needs H264?
Or is it so, that i need flash for every other stream.
I tried also some links, that should be HTML5, but they were not
possible... maby they were not really in HTML5 or HTML5 does't work good.

oh, ok.. so i thought.. pitty.

i have Quadro K1000M in my notebook, so not very old and not new.

The thing is, if i start in descrete-card mode, i have some strange
grafic boot, but the system runs well. Runs there the Nvidia card, but
with nouveau-driver??

as it seems, yes.

is Nvidia in nouveau-mode then better than the intel card? not really,
isn't it?

[qubes-users] Nvidia Optimus mode not possible?

2017-03-06 Thread evo
Hi!

i read some posts about this and as i understood, it is not possible to

The thing with Bumblebee and bbswitch, which i don't fully understand,
seems not to work, or do somebody have some new tricks?
