I have Crossover installed in one AppVMs. All you need to do before it,
is to make its directories stored on /rw to not vanish after VM restart.
Do it by creating /rw/config/qubes-bind-dirs.d/cxoffice.conf:

binds+=( '/opt/cxoffice' )
binds+=( '/etc/crossover.conf' )

Then install crossover, and execute /usr/lib/qubes/init/bind-dirs.sh to
actually move the files to /rw (just one time operation after install).

I use it very rarely, for Excel 2007...

I once was a hardcore lock-in'ed on MS-Office products too, but at one point, I
decided to write a major paper entirely on LibreOffice. I learned a great deal
in the process. Putting it short, you can get past your MS-product addiction,
if you push through it.

However, it's true some aspects of the MS-products still prevail, for example
the difference between Calc and Excel, is a massive headache, considering how
much each of them can do, and do in such a different way.

But if you don't use Excel, then I don't see much reason to stick with
MS-products, or perhaps, you got some reason I overlooked?

I once fancied the aesthetics of MS-Office (and I still do), but after growing
used to LibreOffice, I don't care much anymore. The aesthetics are still nice
and all, but it's just not as important as it was before.

Perhaps you can use some of these thoughts, or perhaps you got valid reasons,
whichever is the case, I hope you find your sweet-spot.

I tried 2h to install Office 2016 with Crossover 17 using a Fedora 25 Template
under Qubes 4rc3.

While the installation of Crossover itself is very easy, I wasn't able to
install office 2016.
The Installation starts, but end in a loop, after installing the dependencies
like fonts the Office 2016 installer launches and then the window dissapears
and the installer keeps saying it is installing.
But nothing else happens.

This test was done with the offline installer of office 2016 from the o365
package.

I'll try to rerun with an office 2016 pro plus installer

I know that I can run a Windows VM in Qubes and I have also done so in Qubes
3.2.
Unfortunately seamless mode was not always working and I don't want to deal
with the overhead of a full windows OS.
