My Qubes was running extremely slowly after updating the templates yesterday. I had to reboot system to fix it. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. [qubes-users] Re: Qubes Os4 very slowly comparing to Qubes 3.2
I also have some speed problems with the new Qubes OS. In Qubes manager after any event I have to press "Refresh Qube list" in the top right corner. Sometimes when qube is offline and I run command from Qubes manager it power on the qube but don't run the application. Sometimes qube doesn't start at all and I have to press the "Refresh Qube list" and start it again. Sometimes I get errors when using Qubes manager. When it's unfreeze i see moving qube icons on the top right of the window. If I start qube successfully and want to run command from the qube manager i have to press "Refresh Qube list" and then run the command, also qube right click options stay grey after start of the qube and have to refresh to show the new available menus. Hope there will be updates or maybe I did something incorrect.(bios settings thru the installation, mistake in setup steps, unsupported laptop parts) my machine is lenovo t460s with i5-6300u, 20gb ram, nvme ssd -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. Re: [qubes-users] Re: Qubes Os4 very slowly comparing to Qubes 3.2
this may seem silly, but try reinstalling. there was one RC of qubes-4 that was really slow for me. even after updating to the final one, it was still slow, but re installing the final one fixed it for me. still slower than 3.2, but only like half its speed instead of nearly unusable. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. When intel first introduced power saving measures people always thought that was the reason their computer was running slowly, but if frequency scaling is working properly all it does is save you money on your power bill - in your case it probably isn't functioning right and you should investigate in dom0. > also as previous poster said 8 gb of ram is too small and 4.0 uses more > resources then 3.2 as well. ssd also helps. I use 8GB RAM and no swap without any issues, you can't run too many VM's especially with resource consuming firefox but it isn't that terrible. PVH should be just as fast as PV, I would investigate frequency scaling and of course install the spectre microcode updates (very difficult thanks to the good people at intel/amd not really releasing them) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group. That could be a good idea John! I have only one problem. I can not disable Speedstep in the Bios- Uefi because there is no Speedstep configuration. Does anyone know how to disable speedstep outside of the Bios at qubes os? Could be my imagination but try **disabling Intel Speedstep in the BIOS-EFI doesn't seem to help so much with boot time, lately, but seemed to help with everything else. that and maybe 8gb RAM is only going to get you a few VMs on top of the defaults, and you can decrease the maximum Ram per VM, to get a few more open, depending on what your doing in the VMs . but maybe you knew that -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "qubes-users" group.
