The only reason to symlink from a different directory would be for your convenience, and if the symlink points to a different drive some servers (apache2) will refuse to follow it. As for what path to put it in, that's entirely dependent on your server configuration. If you're running apache in a standard way, you can probably dig around in /etc/apache2/ (if you have access) until you find a config file where the path is set. > > - I think I don't know the right settings for the .htaccess and > environment.rb for getting my site running in the browser, how to redirect > the domain, and to which directory, etc > Can you stick those files in a gist or pastebin? > > Please tell me, what I should take care of! > Thanks, Paul What does the error say, what version of rails, ruby, bundler, etc. are you using, any other useful information? -- Sam Whited pub 2048R/0DBB515F SamWhited.com s...@samwhited.com 404.492.6008

Re: [Radiant] Question on copying an install
Mark: Yah, SCP will work fine. No reason to install or use something else when you've got a perfectly good solution out of the box :) As for having a test environment there are a couple different ways you could go about it: 1. Assuming you're using a newer version of Radiant, you can set the dev address in the settings and setup a new subdomain that points to it (say dev.yoursite.com). You can then view the site at that subdomain to see any hidden pages. You'll want to password protect it or perform some sort of authentication to ensure that the public can't see your drafts, and this requires working on the production system which isn't a great idea. It's also limited to new pages, so it's probably not what you want. 2. If you're just doing work in the database you could just use Ruby's `TEST` and `DEVELOPMENT` environments. 3. Probably the best (and simplest) option is to just make a copy of your site / DB on your personal computer and use that. This way you don't have to touch the production server at all when testing and developing. I can't say I've ever used Heroku, but git is always your friend. I'm a firm believer that if a project has more than 0 maintainers it should be in a DVC system. —Sam On Mon, Mar 19, 2012 at 10:42, Mark L. wrote: > Thanks Sam. I don't know if this has been brought up in the past before or not, but I'm normally against such things. Re: [Radiant] Wordpress versus Radiant
The two are designed for different purposes. It all depends what you need. Radiant is a very minimalist CMS, while Wordpress has much more functionality out of the box (most of which can be obtained in Radiant by using plugins). Wordperss is also more of a blogging-platform-turned-CMS. So you'll probably find that Wordpress isn't what you want unless you're running a blog. However, I've seen it used for normal websites as well. What are your specific needs? I'd say that you probably want Wordpress if you need a lot of user interaction and feedback (comments and the like), and Radiant if you want a more static website. Of course, this does not cover the technical differences which are substantial. I don't know if this is something you are interested in, but if so, let us know.
