(The new beta 7.5 made it a little little bit smoother, but it is still
much more sluggish/choppy compared to Booom/Classic, look at my little
movie and you will understand..)

I hope this is something that can be solved on the software side so
that it isn't a hardware limitation of the new (sluggish?) LCD-Display.

The old Slimdevices was known to only use the best components to build
thier products (that's way they always has been a little bit more
expensive) i hope that this spirit of thinking still is in the house,
even they now are sailing under the Logitech Brand/Flag.

Someone comment?

And don't missunderstand me, i LOVE Squuezebox products, but i don't
want you to make cheap products with cheap components. I will pay a
little extra to get great products with state of the art components!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] For those of you thinking about returning your Radio ...

2009-10-20 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Well, first let me say that I love my SqueezeBox 3 (now Classic). I
look upon it as the single best investment I ever made regarding hifi
and geek devices I bought in my lifetime. I'm so happy with it that I
told all of my friends, colleagues and family about it and several of
them now consider buying the Touch.

The outstanding functionality and software support over the years for
the SB3 was the main reason for me to buy the radio although I was
completely aware at this point that the software was a little buggy.
This is also the main reason that I didn't return it: I'm pretty much
convinced that the guys at Logitech will fix the software issues.

Then again, the software problems are much more serious than I
originally assumed. There are several issues which affect the core
functionality as an alarm clock. While they don't make the Radio
unusable for that purpose, they are more than annoying and could easily
scare customers away. I'm not even sure if I would call the current
software a legitimate beta software. It's more like an alpha version
where some features work, some work sometimes, some don't work at all.
While I understand that it was a marketing decision to release the Radio
in this immature state, it was really a bad decision that could hurt the
reputation of the Squeezebox product family and also the sales of the
upcoming Touch.

At least I can't seriously encourage anybody I know to buy the Touch
when it comes out and I'll have to look for a different Xmas present for
my sis. Considering the much more complex software of the Touch, it's at
least very probable that it will be plagued by even more problems.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Waking up with Last.fm - no alarm menu

2009-10-20 Thread 0xdeadbeef

Ok, slightly different behavior this morning:
The Radio started playing Last.fm at the correct time but still
displayed the clock screen saver (again no snooze/off dialog). Pushing
back/left brought me back to the main menu, which was responsive, but
neither by pressing left/back not by pressing Home, I could get to
the snooze/off menu.
When manually choosing Last.fm the Radio obviously connected to
Mysqueezebox.com and then displayed the snooze/off menu.

So obviously this issue is caused by the Radio losing it's connection
to Mysqueezebox.com and not being able to reconnect because of some bug.
At least it's not a problem of the internet connection or network as the
Radio is streaming music correctly.

Pretty much the same here except replacing apple lossless for FLAC. I
have 'cured' it for the time being as I can run the radio wired, but
that's not really what we bought it for.

Pretty much like the Boom, and prior SB2/3's I would hope that 7.41 etc
will sort this out before the battery is available in the UK.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio battery on Logitech UK... kinda

2009-10-20 Thread twynne

I've just spent the most irritating 15 minutes on the phone with someone
in Logitech's ecommerce team regarding the issues attempting to
pre-order via the website. For some reason the first half of the call
was spent convincing him that the Squeezebox radio actually accepts a
battery. He then asked me if my existing battery was faulty! Er, no,
it doesn't come with one. Idiot.

In the end I had to walk HIM through the website as he couldn't grasp
the fact that I was trying to order and it was generating an error.
After all of that, he confirms that there are issues with the website
and promises updates via email. Yeah, I'll hold my breath for that.

On the assumption that Logitech has outsourced their ecommerce site,
they seriously need to slap around the idiots that are running it.

There are a number of people that have expressed the same view on the

remotes as well, which makes the 5 Slim/Squeezebox remotes I have
completely useless. The initial response seems to be that the remote
adds a negligible amount to the cost of the accessory pack, but if that
were the case why didn't they just include it with the Radio?!

[SlimDevices: Radio] No audio on Radio playback

Can anyone think of a reason why there would be no audio on one of my

Any thoughts?

There are Line In bugs with 7.4.0 which would turn it off when the
Radio went to sleep (bugs 14693 and 14279). They've been fixed in 7.4.1,
which is just about ready for official release.

Please try a nightly 7.4.1 or wait for the official 7.4.1 soon.

You can keep the battery and sell the remote on eBay, or vice versa.
:)

I for example would definitely need a remote (if I had not just bought
a used Boom by now) because the radio would be sitting at the far end of
the room across the kitchen table, but I would have no use for the
battery.

No, that is not the stream. That's a link to a web page containing a
Flash player. The stream would be
http://195.10.10.202/cope/cadena100.flv, but you cannot play proprietary

Sorry to say that this won't work. Maybe you can ask them to make a
