Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] preset and favorite bugs w/server 7.4.1

2009-10-26 Thread toby10

Many SB customers use these players almost exclusively for Internet
Radio usage, and the SB Radio is particularly geared for that purpose.

So much so that out of the box setup pretty much insists on connecting
to MySB online, which is great for first time SB users with no local
server but is then overly complicated for existing SB users running a
local server.

As Radish suggests, for Internet Radio Podcast usage, just leave it
on MySB online.
You'll give up some UI and customization controls using MySB over SBS,
but it also reduces the complexity for online content usage. :)

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] preset and favorite bugs w/server 7.4.1

2009-10-26 Thread vintage veloce

So, it the preset and favorite handling is an acknowledged bug?

On the idea of using a single server, seeing how screwed up the
handling having both SBS and MySB is, I guess I have no choice! Bummer
given that I bought the radio for Internet Radio and podcasts!
Apparently this isn't really possible without breaking the presets and
favotites. Just making the problem clear.

On your proposed work around... How do I force the unit to stick with
MySB.com? That is my strong preference as the PC with the SBS on it
isn'talways around or on. I cannot find any setting to force the radio
to always use MySB... Must I delete the SBS server software from my PC?

Side note: (As Product Manager myself, I understand how a product can
come out with these kinds of issues, especially when new. I'd suggest
one of the problems with this radio at the moment is that it is marketed
as an Internet Radio, but much more sophisticated functionality has been
left in place (and some of that functionality is broken). Thus there is
alot of opportunity for customer confusion. I foolishly thought I was
buying an Internet radio... I didn't realize I had two servers to deal
with! I can deal with this, but I suspect less network savvy customers
are in for a bit of work or confusion.

If all you want is internet radio then just don't run the server at all,
and it'll happily sit on mysb.com.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Consider buying this radio - does it have a stereo outlet for a amplifer?

2009-10-26 Thread frankflorida

I have already the duet with the controller and looking for a secondary
radio. Wondering if I can control it with the Duet's controller? Also
wondering if it has only a headphone outlet and it it is real stereo?
I am planing to sometime connect it to my large JVC Boombox via AUX.
Would that work any good via the headphone outlet?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Can't connect to server

2009-10-26 Thread danco

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

I've no idea what the problem was, I have been tearing my hair out.

But in the end, I realised that I had a bootable backup from before the
problem (in fact, from before I even got the Radio). Tried booting from
that and the Radio connected fine. So software issue, not failed
hardware.

Had to do a fair bit of juggling to restore from the duplicate and
slowly add back files that had changed since that time.

Currently working ok, though I would be happier if I knew what has
caused the problem, so that I could deal with it if it came back.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Wrong item plays

2009-10-26 Thread danco

So I've been playing around with my new Radio (after solving a weird
problem I had, which hopefully will not recur).

But I find that when I select an item from my Music Folder and click to
play it, a different item plays. Usually the previous item, but at times
it has been several items earlier.

I guess that I may have inadvertently move the central know at the same
time I was pressing it, but if so then the knob is too sensitive. If
that's not the reason, then there is something odd going on.

SB Radio Hard Reset =
- power off Radio
- press hold “+” button
- power ON Radio
- continue holding “+” till you see Factory Settings Restored
- wait till Radio completely reboots on it’s own

[SlimDevices: Radio] SB radio playing without PC

2009-10-26 Thread thom123

Hello, I just got a SB radio and am happy with it. Only issue is that
it seems only to play when the PC is turned on. I've had a Soundbrige
Radio which could play via wifi without PC necessarily being turned on.
Does anyone know whether the SB radio can do that also?

regards

At the moment, with the Radio, I have many problems connecting to
mysqueezebox.com as soon as my PC is switched off. Normally it should
connect automatically, but it doesn't.

Sometimes it works when I switch on/off the radio... But not always...

I am using 7.4.1.

Maybe in a couple releases they will get the podcasts via Itunes
working without bungling the presets.

you can also control it…

using a mobile phone
using the official remote
using an universal remote
telepathy
tell somebody to turn the volume on your sb radio
etc

I leave mine on mySB all the time. My linuxserver shuts down every
night at around 1.30 and i dont want the radio to send a wol packet to
turn it on every morning.

You can try getting Radio to the online MySB by:
 - turning off SBS running on your computer, then selecting Internet

it fail and it should offer you MySB.com as an option.
 - with SBS running or not, go to Radio's Settings Advanced Network
  Connect to MySB

This is how it is supposed to work, YMMV. :)

Thx for your answers. Yes, I've done that a couple of times, trying
different ways, e.g. when it failed to connect, it was trying again to
connect to SBS even if I was choosing another source.

As suggested above, I will try a newer build...
