Nos, that really is the heart of the matter for me when it comes to the
Mute button: is it really better for remote streams? Using pause for
these streams, I've experienced all kinds of problems arter unpausing:
SB orten seems to play what's left in the buffer, and then fail to
reconnect with the stream. A real mute, where only the sound is turnés
off, but the stream jeeps playing, sound much mord reliable to me.

I created a "Random Songs" favorite.

On the SqueezeCenter web interface...

Favorites
New Favorite
Box 1 = Random Mix
Box 2 = randomplay://track
Save

Highlight "Random Mix"
Choose edit
Choose # from dropdown
Save

The random setting is dependent on which genres are selected when the
button is used.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Simple setup - Loud burst before fade in

2010-01-24 Thread DaveWr

Sorry don't agree, the original poster had the simplest of all worlds:

A Radio, an internet connection, MySB.Com.

Versions were as what Logitech / MySB presented him with. Somebody in
QA should know firmwares / dates.

Now if you want to explore different approaches of other posters that's
fine, but it ain't the simplest, and it doesn't necessarily have any
causal scope related to OP's problem, and his subsequent product
return.

Whilst latest nightlies might be exciting, they are not what normal
customers would use unless really recommended. I doubt Logitech support
would generally recommend.

Does it reconnect when you press play ? in these cases it does for me.

Confusingly enough the ir files in the server indicate that there
really is an mute function defined in the server ? Can one re-map an
unused button ?
Does the transporter remote have mute button ?
Or is it an slimp3 leftover from the "jvc remote" functions.

IMO you need to replicate with 7.4.1 but then upgrade to the nightly to
see if it fixes the issue. It has been stated elsewhere that 7.4.2 will
be released soon and so it is not unreasonable to get the OP to upgrade
if that fixes the issue. Yes 7.4.1/Radio was rushed out but it should
get much more stable with 7.4.2.

So if you don't like my approach, do it yourself, ask logitech support,
create a bugzilla, wait for god whatever.

They will ask you the very same questions (which instead of arguing one
who still sees the problem and didn't return the radio already could
answer) and one step ahead I'm sure there will ask if you can temporarly
try 7.4.x if that solves your problem.

I wanted to spend my time in helping to reproduce the problem to make a
proper bugzilla - was just before reinstalling 7.4.1 - but instead you
make me argue here if I should help OP or jmpage (who has a similar
environment like mine).

I'm gone in this thread choose whatever approach is better.
Why do I care - I don't have a problem right now.

So it depends on how much you trust them :)

Too be honest - I'm not sure you can switch to the betas when you are

It depends on your setup. I normally have all players synchronized and
I don't think it is necessary to stop the music in the whole house just
because I am on the phone in one room.

Yes, create a copy of default.map and restart the server (editing .map
files always seems to require a restart). That will give you a dropdown
list to chose between your customized mapping and the standard. Since
this is on the Player>Remote page you can even have different mappings
for different players. Note, however, that a custom map file overrides
everything, including possible future updates to default.map and
remappings done by plugins. If you want to enable these, delete or
comment out everything except your own customizations.

Mnyb;509829 Wrote:
> Edit 2: Mute functions does not apply to players with fixed volume, they

Right. The fixed volume function has some more quirks (for example, on
my SB1s it seems to apply to the digital output only) so I don't use it
anyway. Instead I just disabled the volup/voldown buttons on the IR
remote. This way I could still change the volume using the settings menu
if I had to, and it gives me two spare buttons, one of which I am now
using for mute. This is how my map file looks:

Code:

# Fixed_Volume.map
  [common]
  voldown= muting
  voldown.repeat = dead
  volup  = dead
  volup.repeat   = dead

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm radio intermittent hangs - diagnostics?

2010-01-24 Thread Simon300

It looks like there's a problem with SB Radio firmware reconnecting
after it loses connection to MySBS, and availability issues with MySBS
in Frankfurt - see
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=508297&postcount=34
I guess if you run your own local SC 24/7 you probably won't see these
problems.

Regarding diagnostics I read that if you enable SSH there should be
information in /var/log/messages.

So, more challenges for another day. Whilst I knew that running a
SqueezeCenter on a NAS like the LinkStation might need quite a bit of
dedication, I had expected my SB Radio with MySBS to 'just work'. Ah
well, here's hoping things improve after the next update.

Take a look at KidsPlay. It's not super user-friendly, but you can
pretty much do that with KidsPlay, following the recipes included with
it. The only significant limitation is from Squeezebox Server -- all
players use the same Genre selection for Random Mix. So if somebody in
the bedroom started a Jazz mix and then somebody in the family room
started a Childrens' mix, when the first set of Jazz songs finished, the
bedroom would probably start playing kids' music. I don't know if anyone
has opened an enhancement request for per-player random mix genres or
not. I suspect Erland's plugins may also provide an alternative to
Random Mix that wouldn't have that "competing genre" problem that Random
Mix has.

I solved all of my SB alarm problems by purchasing a $5 alarm clock, and
keeping it next to the SB radio.

I use the alarm clock exclusively

- It has never failed to ring
- It has both a snooze button and an off button
- It has a 9V battery backup
- Amazingly, it does not require a server nor an Internet connection!

[SlimDevices: Radio] Alarm completely stopped working

2010-01-24 Thread lindsayanng

Yep.. entirely stopped.

It was working pretty consistently for a couple of weeks and now it
just stopped I dont even get the backup sound or anythign

Right now I have the squeezebox set up to both msb.com and sbs but at
night I make sure it's connected to msb.com because my computer sleeps
and I want to wake up to howard stern on Sirius..

So everynight before bed I test the connection by playing howard
stern.. then i let it be and usually it would wake me in the morning

Then, a few days ago I noticed the alarm didnt go off and there was an
error on the screen - UNFORTUNATELY i was too asleep to read or remember
it. Ever since then I get nothing. I even set the alarm and sat and
watched and the time came and went and now NOTHING happens at all!!

I am so confused..

Also, I think I want to disengage the sbs because i'm sooo unlikely
going to use it, i'd rather just not connect to sbs ever unless i really
need it.
