Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Battery is shipping!

2010-03-13 Thread Mark Miksis

This is just a guess, but...

If there really is a new Boom remote that uses the original SB type of
real repeating codes, it wouldn't surprise me if any new Boom or Radio
accessories (and Booms themselves) ship with this new remote.

Thanks for the links. But I tried my "new" remote and a couple of Boom
remotes, and they all behave the same. I also opened them up, and they
ALL have the same part number.
If they are supposed to be shipping an upgraded remote, then someone at
Logitech has goofed again.
However the whole idea behind the original Slim design, was that all
devices could be operated by other remotes in the product range. If they
have changed the design, because the Radio can't use them, then this is
a mistake IMO. If it ain't broke, then don't fix it.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio - Full Power down when on battery?

2010-03-13 Thread twynne

I bought it for use in a bathroom (which in the UK has no power
outlets). I plug it in elsewhere when it needs charging, but planned to
leave it in the bathroom unless charging. I was just surprised to find
that it behaves differently (ie. fully shutting down) when running on
battery. Given how long it takes to start up, I'm not sure I like the
new behaviour.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Squeezebox 7.4.2 - what the HELL Logitech?

Continue to get backup alarm sound instead of my music playlist from SB
Server 50% of the time on my SB Radio after update to 7.4.2 even after
disabling nightly rebuild of my music libarary on my SB Radio.

Interestingly this did not happen on 7.4.1 so obviously some "fix" for
alarm reliability has broken my alarm.

Does anyone know if a bug report has been filed yet on this?

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio - Full Power down when on battery?

2010-03-13 Thread JJZolx

The Radio will power itself down after a period to conserve battery
power when only on battery. I would think pulling the plug with a
battery installed should either leave it on or in standby. Then later
it should turn itself off completely from standby. If not, it sounds
like a bug.

Why do you unplug it instead of just pressing off if you only want it
to be in standby?

[SlimDevices: Radio] Radio - Full Power down when on battery?

2010-03-13 Thread twynne

I've recently installed the battery in my Radio, and unplugged it from
power for the first time this morning. Since then I've noticed after a
period of inactivity (not sure how long just yet) it is completely
powered off rather than 'sleeping'. In other words, it goes through the
full power-up sequence each time I switch it on rather than immediately
being ready to play.

Is this a feature of the unit with battery installed, a
software/firmware bug, or is there a setting somewhere to control this
behaviour? I've had a look through the SBS settings for the player, but
can't see anything obvious.

Thanks,

Tom

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?

2010-03-13 Thread Justme

I know exactly where you are Graham, as I had the same issue.

My work around was to use mp3tunes locker. Essentually, I have most of
my music stored at mp3tunes and rarely use the PC now to play my music.
So I am permanently connected to MySqueezeBox.com.

I hated having to switch between MSB.com and SBS all the time as well,
and the Server Power Control plugin never really worked for me.

The advantages of using mp3tunes locker:
* No local PC needed, so power savings and convienence.
* You can either put all your music up, or selected (favourite) music
creating two library's
* Everything on MSB.com
* You have your music available anywhere, squeeze radio at home, any
internet connection or via an iPhone app. (or if you take your SB radio
on holiday with you, and have an internet connection, it will also
work)
* You can use this service also as a remote backup of your music.

The disadvantages:
* An annual fee. I paid €7 for the first year (through coupon) and €21
I think for this second year. Not too bad I guess.
* Not quite as much control over display and options as SBS, but good
enough for general use.
* A bit more work uploading music, but once it's up that's it.

For the last point. mp3tunes has an auto uploader, which is supposed to
watch a folder and add any new music added to that folder or it's
subfolders. I never got this to work for me, as it seemed to miss the
odd song, so I just use a manual uploader (one album at a time) and even
then I have to check it to make sure every song went up. I don't see
anyone else complaining about this on their forums, so maybe it is just
my system.

I have three Squeezebox devices working this way, the radio, Boom and a
SB2.

At the end of the day, I would prefer my squeezeboxes to automatically
switch between SBS and MSB.com as you suggest, basically a native Server
Power controller, or somehow they allow a preference between one or the
other as suggested elsewhere in this thread. But I've been mentioning it
for years and so I don't think they feel there is a big enough market
for it. Personally I do as I imagine most people won't come to this
forum and would just want their setup to work as simply and easily as
possible, where as a good deal of people on these forums are tech heads
who don't mind tinkering with their kit and have a PC of some sort on
24/7.

Yeah. Maybe they could offer a "do not inform me of FW updates" option
in the future. Kinda like the SB3/Boom setting for "do not
automatically update FW".
Though I'm sure this would be *very* low on their priority list. :)

At least the current players (Touch & Radio) are a step in the right
direction to notify but not automatically install the FW updates.
Even though it's a nuisance to have to back out of the notification.

Well, it does make kind of sense since there is no guarantee that all
firmware versions are 100% compatible. It might just as well be that a
newer firmware requires a newer server to operate.

There used to be *.version files in the server/Firmware directory
which you could edit, indicating whether a particular firmware needed to
be upgraded or downgraded. I don't know if these still exist for
SqueezeOS devices.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio sound quality... 'lacking'

2010-03-13 Thread Kenneth Ruggles
Although the SB Boom sound quality is very good as is, I was really amazed
by the sound quality, primarily range, when I connected a subwoofer to it.
There are many subwoofers out on the market, some very expensive, but some
for under a hundred dollars. I got a Yamaha YSTSW216BL when it went on sale
for about $98. However, you could use the subwoofer component of a spare
computer speaker system which has one and it would increase the sound
quality of your Boom system. Unfortunately, the SB radio does not have the
ability to add a subwoofer. Maybe in a future edition?

For audio quality I'll take my Boom over Radio any day. But Radio is no
slouch, especially considering it is a small mono speaker unit.

Couple of things to try:
- reposition it
- the more table/counter space in front of it the better the bass
response
- Internet Radio > Search > *avro*, these are very good quality
streams (192k to 320k)
- if Avro sounds bad then you either have a dud or your ears are far
better than mine (either is entirely possible) ;)

Well red is BETTER! :)

I think it is just a coincidence in your case. Those settings in SBS
are for the SBS server program itself, not the Player.

The OP's problem is that he is running 7.5 FW on his Radio but then
connecting that Radio to a 7.4 version of SBS. So every time his Radio
connects to SBS 7.4 the server is doing it's job and offering the
update.

Unfortunately the players and server software (both SBS and MySB) are
not smart enough to ignore such an update if the player already has a
higher FW than what is being offered.
They just look for a "different" FW version, paying no attention to
whether the player actually has a later or earlier version.

That's odd. I got fed up with the Radio constantly updating firmware
and changed the server settings to "don't check for software updates"
and "do not automatically download updates". I haven't been prompted to
update the Radio firmware since. Maybe the Audiophile Red Radio behaves
differently to the regular one. ;)

What bug number? If there was a known issue, I should be working on it. If this
is known to you, but not filed yet, please do so. Thanks!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Radio sound quality... 'lacking'

2010-03-13 Thread toby10

For audio quality I'll take my Boom over Radio any day. But Radio is no
slouch, especially considering it is a small mono speaker unit.

Couple of things to try:
- reposition it
- the more table/counter space in front of it the better the bass
response
- Internet Radio > Search > *avro*, these are very good quality
streams (192k to 320k)
- if Avro sounds bad then you either have a dud or your ears are far
better than mine (either is entirely possible) ;)

If possible, try a different browser like FireFox or Chrome.

There is a known (but rare) bug with different browsers logging into
MySB.com.

Unfortunately that won't get rid of the FW update prompt, that will
only tell you:
- what FW you currently have
- if a new FW is available
- offer to install new FW
- offer to re-install same FW

doubleugk: There is no workaround in the settings, you will just have
to keep ignoring the update.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Is this too much to ask?

2010-03-13 Thread SushiDS

Hi there.

I would like to have a "Switch to mysb.com" button right there in the
"Home" menu.
That would make it MUCH easier to switch between SBS and mysb.com.
I can do this with the SBC and the Boom. Why not with the Radio?
Maybe you can easily switch between the two and I just don't get it...

So long,
Sushi

Try support.

http://www.logitechsqueezebox.com/support/contact-support.html

This is and user forum, not an official support channel, most people
are just end users precisely as you are .

You can sometimes get help from a fellow user.. but somethings is only
fixable by someone at logitech, for example server logins.

can you see the site from where you are ?

http://www.mysqueezebox.com/

On your radio

settings > advanced > Diagnostics :

what does it tell you ?

Main hifi: SB3 (soon to replaced by a Touch :) It is on preorder)
Bedroom/Office: Boom
Kitchen: Receiver (soon to be replaced by my SB3 and the SBR to be
stuffed in a box in the attic )
Miscellaneous use: Radio (battery pack to be ordered)
I use a Controller various ir-remotes and a Eee-PC with squeezeplay to
control this

I'm not one to defend this POS, but many stations are only streaming in
64kbs or less, so you're not going to get CD or digital quality from
some stations.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] batteries out of stock ...

2010-03-13 Thread Vectorz

This company never ceases to amaze me with their ineptitude! AT $200
this radio should have come with a battery, but when I ordered it I
based that order on Logitechs own date for battery availability, and now
it's going to be MAY or LATER? What a bunch of morons.

[SlimDevices: Radio] Unable to log into my account

2010-03-13 Thread Vectorz

For the past day I have been unable to log into my account, or access
the remote control. Every time I input my e-mail and password
(correctly) it just bounces right back into the log in page. WTF is
going on? Why is everything with this radio such a pain in the ass?
