[SlimDevices: Radio] Problems playing radio streams from di.fm and sky.fm
I have 2 Squeezebox classics that have been playing flawlessly since the day they came out of the box almost 3 years ago. About a week ago I bought a Squeezebox Radio. Unfortunately this radio has an annoying quirck and I'm not sure how to solve it (assuming it's something I can solve myself). When playing radio streams from di.fm (or sky.fm) the radio usually plays for about 10 minutes, then the music stops (the radio still indicates the play icon) and after 10 to 15 seconds the wireless symbol turns to blue (a problem communicating with squeezebox server). At this point there is no more communication between the radio and the outside world (like the wireless has been switched off). The only thing I can do to recover is switch the radio off and then back on again. Sometimes that even means pulling the plug on the back of the radio. There is no difference when playing through my own server or via mysqueezebox.com. There is also no difference playing the mp3 stream or the aac stream. First I thought the radio might be defective so I've had the store replace the unit but that didn't help. So, I'm wondering: Why am I able to play all the music from my own server, play several radio streams without any problems except for radio streams from that one source? Does someone else experience the same problem with a radio playing the di.fm trance stream? Can you play the stream for more than 2 or 3 hours without your radio crashing? I have 2 wireless accesspoints (a belkin and a Fritzbox) and the problem occures on both accesspoints. The wireless signal is good, usually well above 80% and a 54mbit connection. Other devices on the same wireless network keep working if the radio fails (laptop, one of the 2 squeezebox classics and a PDA) This afternoon I'm going to try an ethernet cable instead of the wireless interface to rule out any potential wireless problems. Additional information: The radio uses Firmware 7.4.2-r8423, the Server runs the 7.4.2 software on ubuntu linux. -- MikeDelta MikeDelta's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37088 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76448 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

I agree as well, server side settings are preferred and for a number of reasons: - Factory Resets wipe all such settings from player - Multiple players = multiple configurations - Easier to visualize such settings on a web UI Whether the new players like Radio Touch are capable of retrieving such settings from the server I cannot say. But imagine having four such players and deciding to make a simple menu item change, this requires doing so on each player individually. The older players like SB3 and Boom retrieve all such saved settings the moment they connect to either SBS or MySB. -- toby10 toby10's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12553 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76309 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

aubuti;526984 Wrote: Two things. First, while similar in function, the Boom and Radio are very different in design and capabilities. The Boom is a slim (aka dumb) client that can't do anything except tell time without a server (SB Classic can't even do that). The Radio has a full-fledged operating system, so configuration and other things can be done right on the device. Second, you can do almost all the same settings for the two devices (see below for a key exception). The difference is that the Boom depends on the server, whereas for the Radio you do many of the same settings on the Radio itself. And you can do these settings on the Radio without running a local server. Can I set minimum brightness when on auto dimming on the radio like I can on my other devices through MSB.com? This would be an important feature. Also, like many others have said, I also think allowing a central control point for all devices is important for those with more than one. It seems counter productive to not offer this feature which is available on older devices. Many people are like me who try to get a device for each room of the house. In a situation like this, having to go to each individual device and configure is far less efficiant than having a central location. -- Justme Justme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=369 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76309 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio

Up until this update (Firmware 7.4.2-r8423) hit a bit ago, I never had this issue with the SBRadio I've owned since Jan. Now, I get the play about 10 minutes, then drop issue nearly all the time, and I have seen it is identified as Rebuffering Failed errors. I posted about it on a topic another person started specifically for this update #. I run it connected to MySB.com. I pointed out there that, if this Radio had acted like this in the beginning, I would have thought it was broken, too. The fact that it didn't used to act like this doesn't help you much, except to confirm it likely isn't a problem with your specific unit. Ben and Tom's answer to you is to hold the power button until Radio says Goodbye (whether on AC or battery), and then you're safe. Honestly, though, are you really more concerned about Tom's taking-Radio-through-the-airport than you are sleeping-late-because-the-power-failed? Given how nasty some of the comments have been about Radio alarm failures, do you really think it's wiser for Logitech to cater to the Tom-airport scenario than the didn't-know-Goodbye-meant-no-alarm scenario? -- peterw http://www.tux.org/~peterw/ Free plugins: 'AllQuiet' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AllQuiet.html) 'Auto Dim/AutoDisplay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/AutoDisplay.html) 'BlankSaver' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/BlankSaver.html) 'ContextMenu' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/ContextMenu.html) 'DenonSerial' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/DenonSerial.html) 'FuzzyTime' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/FuzzyTime.html) 'KidsPlay' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KidsPlay.html) 'KitchenTimer' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/KitchenTimer.html) 'PlayLog' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PlayLog.html) 'PowerCenter/BottleRocket' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/PowerCenter.html) 'SaverSwitcher' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SaverSwitcher.html) 'SettingsManager' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SettingsManager.html) 'SleepFade' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SleepFade.html) 'StatusFirst' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/StatusFirst.html) 'SyncOptions' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/SyncOptions.html) 'VolumeLock' (http://www.tux.org/~peterw/slim/VolumeLock.html) peterw's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2107 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76177 ___ Radio mailing list Radio@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/radio
