Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] dropping connection after firmware update

2010-05-03 Thread egarc

I updated my Squeezebox Server to 7.5.1 last night and it updated my SBR
to 7.5.1. I then shut down the server and ran the SBR for several hours
last night and today listening to Slacker and several radio stations
without one drop or pause. I don't use the alarms so I can't comment on
that but so far so good!!

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] alarm problem status

2010-05-03 Thread vdeknock

I run a SBS server and have generally not had any issues with Alarm
sounds until I made a change to my music library and the song that was
in the alarm playlist. This caused the radio to drop back to the
backup sound (was a rude way to wake up), but it was my fault as the
song to play did not exist.

I released what I had done and deleted the playlist called alarm that I
had created. I noticed that the radio had created a playlist called
morning alarm and added a new song to this. This failed to work the
next morning. Looking into it some more the morning alarm on the
webGUI appeared as I typed between the quotes, on the radio it appeared
as moring+alarm - I deleted this and recreated a new playlist called
alarm and that has worked without issues.

While testing - I created 3 alarms that all started within 5 minutes to
test different things and got the error on the inbuilt sounds which are
generated from a file on MySBS.com.

Creating a heaps of test alarms quickly showed me what was going to
work for me assuming that my radio maintains connection with the SBS
server in my house.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] Podcasts on Radio from internal webserver?

2010-05-03 Thread MikeDelta

Downloading the podcast and making it look like an album in squeezebox
server is an option. But that requires a lot of work if a new episode
comes out. That will require a renumbering of the 'tracknumbers' if you
want the latest episode to be the first in the list.

Yesterday I uploaded the xml file of my local podcasts to a
world-accessible webpage and I entered the url to the mysqueezebox
podcast player. The xml file is unaltered and contains information that
is only accessible on my local lan (addresses like 192.168.1.10). That
works!

So, now I have a podcast player on all my players AND can refer to
local content.

Quite honestly, at this point, I have personally given up on Logitech

They released a faulty FW weeks ago and I have yet to be able to get
their support folks to acknowledge that fact. Nor have they been able

Why reward poor service with more revenue?

From that link download the version you want, run the execution/setup
program on your computer, start up SBS (it should start up after
install).

Connect Radio to SBS, install older FW.
- should prompt you to do so
- if it does not prompt you, Radio Settings Advanced Software

It didn't work. The firmware remains as the latest version. I'm not
sure if it won't roll back because I previously reinstalled the new
firmware numerous times in an attempt to fix the problem, but I tried
at least 15 times to roll back to 7.4 it never happens. Here's what I
did:

Press/hold power until it completely shuts off, then press/hold rewind
and at the same time press power until it restarts.

I am certain there is absolutely no problem with the router.

Will restoring factory defaults reset the firmware to the version that
was shipped with the radio?

You can try just doing a Factory Reset, that *may* downgrade to
previous version, no guarantees. :)

SB Radio Hard Reset =
- power off Radio (press hold POWER button, see goodbye on screen)
- press hold “+” button
- power ON Radio
- continue holding “+” until you see Factory Settings Restored
- wait till Radio completely reboots on it’s own

Beyond Factory Reset and an SBS install, no other way to downgrade the
FW.

[SlimDevices: Radio] I am getting totally fed up!

2010-05-03 Thread JonInAtl

First of all, I'm not an idiot when it comes to networking. I worked 8
years as network admin for webmd.com and am now head of Macintosh IT
for my current employer. I know my way around a network.

Bought my SBR back when 7.4.2 was the latest firmware, over all I had
few if any problems.
Since the dreaded 7.5 update, nothing but problems.

If I run my own SBS under OSX, things are fine, however, I don't always
want to keep that box running 24/7.

At the moment, I'm watching the animated circle do it's thing on the
home screen after choosing Favorites. It's been sitting there
spinning for the last 15 minutes. This problem is repeatable any time
the radio has been playing for 10-15 minutes or more (works fine after
a cold boot). If I press one of the 6 preset buttons, it changes to
that preset, but try to select Favorites and it just sits there
spinning.

This problem also exists with the nightly builds when I push the
contained Radio firmware to the unit.

Something with this many problems is a CONSUMER product?!?! Is someone
trying to sabotage Logitech?
Whomever tested and approved this software before pushing it should be
grateful they're not one of my employees.

I'm this close -- to tossing it (can't sell it on eBay as I'd like to
preserve my reputation there) and buying something from *anyone* else.

Now, what is the fix for this?

Sounds like the symptoms of the dreaded 7.5 internet station drop. See

You may want to vote for bug #161170 at

Please add all the details of your own experience. I don't remember
that any one previously mentioned that the Radio spontaneously comes
back on from the standby after turning itself off. Perhaps that will
give the Logitech bug sleuths a hint about where the problem lies.

Re: [SlimDevices: Radio] I am getting totally fed up!

2010-05-03 Thread JonInAtl

Yes I did get the update.
The radio just sits there at the spinning wheel animation trying to
access anything at MSB.
Favorites-wheel
Internet Radio-Local-wheel
Apps-wheel

It will only work if I
A. Re-boot it, but then it only works for 10 min or so
B. Press a preset button- it goes to the preset but accessing anything
on MSB from the home screen results in the animation running forever.
C. Run SBS and connect through that. However that is not an option as I
bought the radio so I didn't have to have the computer running all the
time.

Apologies for the tone of my orig post but I'm very frustrated.

Pretty sure you can simply ignore it. IIRC, you just press (or hold)
the left-arrow, or maybe the Home button. I don't recall how often it

I wouldn't be surprised, though, if you find that the connectivity

Well, there is if you are running you own SBS. It may be found in the
Advanced/Software Updates section of the SBS web preferences (my Radio
never nags me as a result even though my SBS is 7.6 and my Radio
7.5.1). I am not sure you are able to access these settings in

a MacMini, which I use - only 15W when idle - or a sheeva plug etc) if
energy consumption is your concern.
